Bah. Some Netherese archmage he is. He can't even figue out a way to tweak his will bonus up to 17. :P

In any case, yes, they can, though by default, the Blinding Beauty ability is always on.

Elves have nothing on Dwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrvven Spirits!

LotR aside, Dwarves outdrink a Elf, so thus, they obtain my vote.

They cannot do that in LotR AFAIK. *Shakes a fist at Jackson, points to elves falling down drunk in the Hobbit*

All due respect to Jackson, but I think it's very clear that he's an elf wanker.

Tolkien is an elf wanker so its not like he's straying from the base material. Yeah, Legolas gets sexed up in the movies, but they are first born are superior in just about every way.

Elves are kind of cool, but I think dwarves would kick their arses in a fight, at least if we're talking about Discworld elves/dwarves: Pussies who rely on glamour and manipulation and are allergic to iron vs unimaginitive bastards with iron armour and fucking big axes.

Elves are still kind of cool though.

Well, I know mostly about the Tolkienverse Elves, so...

If Elves were alergic to iron, they couldn't forge the sword of Narsil. Or that armor the Rivendell troops wear on TTT. And if you ever read the Quenta Silmarillion, you'd know that the Elves have a martial tradition that goes back several thousand years before the Dwarves dug their first mine. Elves may be fair and beautiful, but they have no qualms against kicking some ass when need be.

To auote pterry himself, 'Elves are wonderful. The provoke wonder.
Elves are marvelous. They cause marvels.
Elves are fantastic. They create fantasies.
Elves are glamourous. They project glamour.
Elves are enchanting. They weave enchantments.
Elves are terrific. The beget terror. The thing about words is that meanings can twist just like a snake, and if you want to find snakes look for them behind words that have changed their meaning.
No-one ever said elves are nice.
Elves are bad.'

They are'nt evil so much as not having any type of morality, the queen would kidnap a baby and give it only toys and sweets although what a baby really needs is a spanking and work. (Not a quote)

They remmembered that they hunted, nobody remmembers what they hunted, they only remmember that they were beautiful

Something evil would be malicious, would you Call Cthulthu or Narlothtep evil or Bel-Shameroth (7a  ) the soul swallower evil?

They simply dont go by the same evil/good morality scale that we use, the queen didnt mean to harm the baby but she didnt see anything wrong in taking him away from his parents and the consequences for him if he grew up in faerie.
A drow is malicious and wants to harm you, an elve might hunt you but it woulod have you pegged mentally as one step below the unicorn (Just a horse with a horn on the end)

Yes?

You do not have to mean harm to be evil. If you accept doing harm merely to fulfill your personal desires that's enough, at least in my book. No the queen might not have meant to harm the baby but she also didn't give a flying fuck if she did. Worse, she didn't even consider that she could harm the kid. Whatever consequences it had for the kid was quite simply irrelevant for her.
A drow is malicious and wants to harm you, an elve might hunt you but it would have you pegged mentally as one step below the unicorn (Just a horse with a horn on the end)
Which is even worse. The Drow know they're doing harm. They may revel in the fact that they are, but at least they admit they do. The Discworld Elves don't even think about it.

Evil does not require Malice. Evil only requires selfiness. In fact that is all Evil is, not caring about the results of your actions towards others has long has you get what you want.

I was indeed refering specifically to Discworld elves. They are quite different to Tolkein's elves. The Discworld elves are cruel, selfish, ugly creatures who covet the human world and like hurting things just for fun. Their powers lie mostly in glamour and trickery. Their main strength lies in making you believe that they are beautiful and that you are too worthless and weak ever to hope ot beat them. Their main weakness is that they can't stand the touch of iron.

Discworld dwarves bear an at least superficial resemblance to Tolkein's dwarves. They mostly live in mines and are great metalworkers. They have a fondness for iron armour and tend to carry large axes (although in some books Pratchett suggests that chain mail as day-to-day clothing this is mostly an affection of the citified dwarves who inhabit Ankh Morpork). They are also renowned for having no imagination, sense of humour or grasp of metephor and have a tendency, after a couple of drinks, to become extremely violent.

Oh and megas, 'he' is, as it happens, a 'she'.

The great old ones / creatures of the far realms are even more above humans as we are above an insect, do you notice when an ant gets squished?

As to the elves you may have a point, as their intent varies but as of the latest disc book with them (The one before "A hat full of sky" with Tiffany Aching) they didnt understand that what they did was bad
A super intelligent tiger is bad for sheep but we sheep even praise the tiger and come to look at it's coat, who cares if a few sheep start to babble or are used as pets?

I'm amazed at how the vote turned out. Elven fandom is so strong, from what I've seen, that I would've expected the pointy-ears to run away with it.

Dwarves are tough. Everyone loves tough. Elf wankers are just noisy, so they are more visible.

I prefer elves personally, even D&D elves I think are superior. Though it really does depend on circumstances...

Hrm.

On one side...the Dwarf. Damn good meat shield although short and therefore must conpensate for the height variance.

On the other side...the Elf. Prancing flower fairy and yet makes a good stick when there is no other weapon around.

Personally I'm more of a dark elf (Drow) sort. They're just so much more...fun.

...and in that I mean: dark elves are

Huntess, the dwarf's lack of height is a plus as meat shield. That means you can cast or shoot over his head while he holds the orcs off.
