Post by Jason_Firewalker »

Alright, who is down for a vampire game? Defend the city of Berkely from the Sabbat? Be the Camarillia, and start with 50 freebie points! Or Sabbat assaulting Berkely and start with 50 freebies.

:: Bio ::
Name: Mehrimat
Clan: Assamite (Sorcerer caste)
Generation: 8th
Concept: Occult Librarian / Special Operations soldier
Demeanor: Jester
Nature: Judge
Affiliation: Camarilla sect (aligned with Al-Ashrad)

Mehrimat was born two hundred years ago in a small village in northern Africa. All his life, the gift of magick was with him, and he Awakened as a mage very early on. He joined the burgeoning fight against the Technocracy, despite their rather persuasive arguments. Mad wizard kings might be a danger, but magic out of the hands of everyone was not an acceptable alternative, to him.

He had begun to make a name for himself in certain circles, with his raw talent for magic, his raw force of will, as well as his ethics that bound him. During this time, he met a vampire named Al Ashrad in passing. The two began talking slowly over the next two years, and ended up becoming close friends. Despite their different natures, neither made an issue of it, and Al Ashrad never extended the offer of the Embrace to Mehrimat. They were content to have long talks about metaphysics at times when neither had any pressing business.

It was several years later that his life changed irrevocably, during what seemed like a routine task - to explore the lair of a pack of Black Spiral Dancers. However, the seemingly routine task swiftly proved itself anything but. He and a few mages with him slowly discovered that several neighboring Garou packs had been wiped out of this area, and that other mages had been here as well - and had not returned.

Mehrimat and the other mages accompanying him explored the area for weeks before finding the entrance to the caves below, when the waking nightmares began. One by one, the other mages died deep beneath the ground, victims of Wyrm-taint, Black Spiral Dancer ambush attacks, or much worse. As for Mehrimat himself, though severely wounded, he had pushed himself to the deep center of the cave network, where the pack leader of the Black Spiral Dancers called his throne, and where he communicated with what lay behind it. It was there, surrounded by Black Spiral Dancers, that he still tried to convince the pack leader to leave this area, and then fiercely defended himself when that didn't work.

As he lay dying a mile beneath the ground, he felt that at least he could go with a clear conscience. He had tried to complete his assignment to the very best of his ability. Though he had failed, he still felt no shame, as he had done his best.

Without warning, the lights in the room went out, and silence spread in the room like an insidious plague. Unbelieving, Mehrimat felt himself being lifted over a shoulder in a fireman's carry, and shortly afterward, despite his shocked eyes, he saw the clear night sky.

It was then that Al Ashrad made his offer, and apologetically at that. In retrospect, Mehrimat was amused by the whole situation, as Al Ashrad essentially brought it up as a possibility, and then proceeded to try to talk Mehrimat out of it for the next five minutes. As the world began to dim,. perhaps for the last time, Mehrimat said yes. And thus began his induction into the night-time world of mages, into the eldest organization of vampiric mages: the Sorceror caste of the Children of Haqim - the Assamites.

The Secession from Alamut was not a decision made lightly in the least, for any member of the Assamite Clan. However, ur-Shulgi's questionable fitness as leader finally convinced Al Ashrad to break, for good.

This whole incident left Mehrimat with a deep dislike of what are now called Traditionalist Assamites - their blind, unquestioning loyalty to a mad leader only hastens the downfall of the Assamite clan, something which weighs heavily on the heart of all Assamites who left their ancestral home.

However, they found a new home in the Camarilla, and though they (and even sometimes Mehrimat) chafe sometimes at the rules of the Camarilla, they do respect the reasons those rules are there.

Though Mehrimat is still beginning his apprenticeship to Al Ashrad, he looks forward very much to the future. Though the pulse of magic is weaker within him now, it is still undeniably there. For a Sorceror, that is enough.

Berkley, huh?

Why.. I'm all about a good meal.

You wouldn't say no just because I do more than drink the bodies, wouldja?

"Would you like to know more?"

*clicks 'yes'*

More details please beyond "There is a city, you are either attacking it or defending it." Also, 50 freebies is... a lot.

Hell, that's more than a lot, I don't think you get that many freebies for having the Age background at 3.

You get more for having Age 3. It's the sweet spot. Diminishing returns starts seriously kicking in at 4 and 5.

but 50 freebies means you can buy down your generation and boost yourself with enough disciplines to make yourself very impressive to start with.

Possible game of Vampire: The Masquerade, (whether by 2nd edition book rules or 3rd edition is still in doubt) with full character sheets, and an offensive amount of freebie points.

I've never played that system so someone would have to help me out. Like for instance, what are freebie points?

Pick up the 2nd edition book - the one with the green cover and a rose. It should be cheap to get now, and still relatively easy to find.

Sorry I have been away from my keys for too long and I am running this via WW2300. If anyone is interested in knowing more about Berkely California, then they can check the web. The basic premise is that the Sabbat which runs most of San Francisco and to the north, is attempting to take Berkely, the last bastion of Camarillia from them. For now I am allowing only main book clans.
