#1 Beast Wars Transformers Signup / OOC

Post by Dark Silver »

The future....

"Exiting from Transwarp conduit! The Darkside is right in front of us!"

Full power to forward Autocannons! Target their engines!"

"We have targeting solution....the Darkside is opening fire."

"Brace for impact, return fire!"

The depths of space were illuminated by the brillant flashes of energy weapons and missile fire. Energy shields buckled and hull armor tore free upon both ships.

"Oh man Boss-bot..this is looking bad..."

"Engines are offline, weapons offline....we're being pulled in by a gravity well...."

"Oh man..I knew I shouldn't have gotten out of the CR chamber this morning. We're all gonna die....."

"Release the Stasis Pods! Brace for Impact!"

A stream of metal pods ejected from the Maximal starship, even as it was pulled down into the planet's atmosphere. Twin fireballs blazed through the night sky, till they crashed upon the planets surface.

-------------------------

Beast Wars.

A series of time locked conflicts between two groups of Cybertronians, a Maximal scientific team lead by the noble Optimus Primal, and a group of rogue Predacons, lead by the duplicitous Megatron.

These two groups would wage a war which would have unforeseen consequences throughout the timeline. Heroes and Villains would both rise and fall on this planet, in the ancient past.....their deeds lost to the sands of time.

In the 300 years since the Pax Cybertronia and the end of the Cybertronian Wars, peace has flourished. The days of the Autobots and Decepticons have passed, in their wake have come their more diminutive descendants - the Maximals and Predacons. New, more efficient bodies - all of the strengths, none of the weaknesses.

------------

The story will cover the Beast Wars. The game will begin with the crashing of the Axalon and the Darkside upon this strange, unknown planet literally soaked in natural Energon deposits, and where it goes from there is unknown....

PC's will interact and fight with and against the Maximals and Predacons from the original Beast Wars. This is a storyteller based game, and as such, the Storyteller will have ultimate rule over actions in the game.

Character sheet format is below:
Name:
Faction:
Function:
Alt Mode:

Quote:

Bio:

Weapons/Abilities:

Weakness:
Characters are pending Storyteller approval.

Not sure if I'll be joining up or not but I would just like to make these petitions very early on.

Few fliers, Maximals only ever had what, 2 fliers at any given time?

One, maybe two "military bots". That doesn't mean no carnivorous beastmodes, just that not everyone should have huge military experience and expertise. It was a science vessel.

At the risk of being too military for Maximals...

Name: Mammoth Prime
Faction: Maximal(Wrecker Descendent)
Function: Heavy Combat/Bounty Hunter.
Alt Mode: Wooly Mammoth

Quote: Peace Through Superior Firepower.

Bio: Following the transition from the near-constant warring of Autobot and Decepticon, to the peace of Maximal/Predacon unity, several factions, remembering Megatrons legendary actions of rebellion and the need the Guardian Robots and Wreckers in the dark days before full mobilization was possible. Mammoth Prime is merely the latest Maximal programmed by one of two rival 'Wrecker' factions that still exist. Encoding duty to peace and prosperity deep into his personality core, he rejects the extremist policies of the Dinobot-descended faction as more interested in personal glory.

But the present peace has no place for warriors, and while a Cybertronian Main Battle Tank could shift any conflict that did flare up, Mammoth instead found himself passing the time hunting down the occasional dangerous criminal that loosed itself. He even participated in the great hunt against Protoform X, though lost the trail after being bogged down in a trap laid by the sadistic monster. Repaired and operational, he eagerly accepted a posting on the ship destined to drop off the freakshow where no one could be harmed.

Then, a Predacon claiming the name 'Megatron' stole the Darkside...

Weapons/Abilities: Twin barreled charged particle cannon(Largely unused as of launch of the Axalon). Disuptor missiles designed to incapacitate Cybertronians, twin quad-launcher setup.

Weakness: Despite the fact his size means more armor, weapons space, and energy reserves, it's made him less resilient to energon surges and exposure to raw crystals of the stuff, forcing him to spend more time in Beast Mode to handle Earth's enviroment. It also makes him a sizable target for enemy cannons.
Half-Damned, All Hero.

Tev: You're happy. You're Plotting. You're Evil.
Me: Evil is so inappropriate. I'm ruthless.
Tev: You're turning me on.

I Am Rage. You Will Know My Fury.

Name: Medidon
Faction: Maximal
Function: Medical Officer
Alt Mode: Glyptodon

Quote: "Just sit still for a second would you? Unless of course you know how to fix a particle degenerator blast that's slowly eating through your spark."

Bio: Medidon came online only recently and in the time of peace and prosperity did not think much of the stories told of the Great War, thinking them only stories to keep young bots in line. Medidon was assigned to the Axalon as a nice and easy way to introduce the bot to active duty. But it seems that the universe had other plans

Weapons/Abilities: The only weapon Medidon carries on him is a cerebral disruptor pistol meant to disable and confuse his enemies. Medidon does carry a lot of medical equipment on him meant to be able to deal with almost any medical emergency he will run into out in the field. Additionally, Medidon is equipped with a forcefield generator which extends in a bubble around him far enough to protect himself and perhaps one other bot. This field also protects against the effects of the energon, allowing Medidon to remain in robot mode longer than others.

Weakness: Medidon is an idealist at heart, so much so that he refuses to do anything that may kill a fellow bot, Maximal or otherwise, and will only fight if it is a last resort. Medidon has been known to even treat the more severe injuries of his Predacon enemies. Additionally, Medidon's alt. mode is extremely slow.

Muahahahahahaha. I knew DS couldn't resist for long.

Name: Archon (Often nicknamed "Mismatch")
Faction: Maximal/Predacon (see below)
Function: Intelligence Officer

Quote: "The best way to break into a fortress is to knock on the front door."

Alt Mode: Archon's alt mode is that of an Archaeopteryx, the feathered evolutionary link between birds and dinosaurs. He stands four and a half feet tall in alt mode, covered feathers large and small. His main body is turquoise melding to an emerald green on his lengthy tail, while his long wing feathers are burnished gold. He has razor-sharp claws mounted on the end of his wings, and equally razor-sharp teeth mounted in his beak, as well as energon sheathed talons, giving him all manner of options in close quarters fighting.

Bio: The Great Peace, the Pax Cybertronia, lasted for three hundred years, but peace is not maintained by goodwill alone. There were Cybertronians out to derail the process of peace from the beginning of the age, and accordingly, always there have been Cybertronians dedicated to preserving it by whatever means were necessary. Some did so by gun and sword, some by persuasion and diplomacy, and some through the arts of subtlety, subterfuge, and surveillance. Archon, to all who would investigate, was one of the latter. Neither overly diplomatic nor wielding incredible combat skill, Archon was possessed of a streak of almost Predacon-worthy cunning and a mind seemingly made for the weaving of labyrinthine plots and schemes, all of which were woven in the service of countering the no-less devious machinations of the Predacons who sought to re-ignite the Great War. Though by necessity somewhat reticent about discussing specifics of his own background and experience, there was never a question about Archon's skill at discerning the most vital bits of intelligence from disparate information, counteracting the most intricate of Predacon plans, and responding to them in kind in the service of Cybertron, and of peace. Not everyone approved of his methods, but nobody could ever fault Archon's results or dedication to his cause, either before his assignment to the Axalon as intelligence officer, or after the fateful crash which catapulted him into a position of more responsibility than he was accustomed to. Such is Archon's well-known persona among the Maximals.

It is all a fraud.

Archon is, in reality, an exquisitely deeply-planted Predacon agent, groomed and deployed by Megatron himself to infiltrate and destroy the Maximals in whatever way his real master thought best. That he is thought an intelligence officer for the Maximals is merely all part of Megatron's plan, and tribute to Archon's incredible skills at deception, misdirection, and theatricality. Archon himself has no idea what Megatron's final plans for him are, but no doubt he is to become one of the most top secret weapons in utterly destroying the Maximals and attaining supremacy over the galaxy.

... unless of course something unexpected should happen...

Personality: Archon projects the personality of a loyal and dedicated, if a bit stuffy, Maximal, constantly appearing ever-so-slightly overworked, but always willing to help out however he can with his own expert fields. He is, by necessity, somewhat secretive, but he attempts to be as 'open' with the other Maximals as he can without compromising the plans, schemes, and operations it is his job to carry out, an elementary security measure that everyone can understand. He is clearly both very intelligent and very perceptive, though he does disguise the extent of these attributes at times whenever it suits him. He deliberately cultivates many rumors and stories of the various secrets in his past, or the exploits he has been responsible for, understanding full well that an intelligence officer is supposed to be a somewhat mysterious figure, and that the tales told will serve to distract from the truth.

The truth is that Archon is a nervous wreck. His assignment to infiltrate the Maximals was intended to be nothing more than a temporary assignment, a chance to exercise his skills at deception for a very precise and limited goal. It has since mutated into something well beyond his wildest dreams or nightmares. While he has risen to the occasion, constructing a web of deception so complex as to be nearly impenetrable even by him, obscuring and obfuscating his motives and persona behind walls of misdirection, the challenge is wearing on even his capacities. Ironically, the more secure his position becomes among the Maximals and the better a position he is in to finally strike whatever secret blow Megatron has planned, the less he seems to be able to handle the internal strain of everything he expected to keep up. Worse yet, he cannot figure out why it is that his nerves are so badly shot. Logically speaking, the crash has placed him in an even more unimpeachable position than ever, and yet he remains more and more consumed with the fear of being found out, more and more convinced that somewhere, somehow, someone is onto him, preparing to reveal him to the remainder of the Maximals as what he is, a traitor of the most supreme and vicious sort. The stress has reached the point where the other Maximals are beginning to worry that their intelligence officer is starting to buckle under the pressure of his job, a mistake he has permitted to perpetuate, for fear that the reality should become known.

And strangest of all, he finds that it is not the fear of a traitor's punishment... but the fear of exposure alone, before the Maximals he has spent so long amongst, that is starting to consume his every waking moment. And he knows that when the call does come, and when Megatron finally calls on him to leave the shadows and strike openly against the Maximal leadership, then he will finally be exposed. He who has hidden in the shadows will be forced into the light.

It scares him to death.

Weapons: Not explicitly designed for combat, Archon is still quite capable when cornered. His claws, teeth, and talons are all razor-sharp and energon-coated, quite capable of shredding armor like lace and attacking vital systems. He cannot actually fly in beast form, but his wings give him some lift, enabling him to glide or ride particularly strong wind currents at need. He is not particularly large or heavy, but he is agile and extremely precise, and tougher than he might appear. Still, a heavy-duty brawler can easily overcome him in the right circumstances.

In addition to his melee capabilities, Archon carries something called an "Arc Welder", a crude but deadly energon-fueled electrical projector, originally designed as a welding tool, that can manifest semi-aimed blasts of lightning over a very short range. Built into his right hand as a bot, and into his very optics as a beast, the weapon in neither case is overt, giving him the appearance of being unarmed even when he is anything but. There is nothing whatsoever subtle (or accurate) about the Arc Welder, and use of it rapidly drains Archon's energon reserves, but it serves admirably for when there is no other option, and its electrical charge has the admirable side-effect of overloading the systems of most targets he deploys it against. Beyond thirty yards or so, the Arc Welder is completely useless, thus rendering him totally without long-range weaponry of any sort.

Abilities: Not incredibly physically astounding, Archon is capable enough in a pinch in combat, but his real skills are in the arts of espionage, intelligence, and deception. He is not stealthy, has no special capacity to avoid physical detection, but his cunning and skill at constructing intricate plots and unraveling those of others are second to none. He has used these skills many times in the service of the Maximals, and continues to do so, even if his own real agenda is hidden many layers below. He is a natural actor, liar, and thespian, tailoring every statement he makes for the hearer, adopting and shedding personalities like stage props, always careful to cover which lies he has told to which people. His plans are complicated, deep, long-term, and replete with contingencies and escape routes, to the point where after all this time, he has still not been meaningfully impugned on any charge, even on an implied one. And no suspicions of his real nature have ever stuck to him, deflected by the shield of lies he has so carefully constructed around himself. He is, in every sense, a Master of Spies.

Weaknesses: "The wicked flee when none pursue," or so goes the saying. Archon is a perfect embodiment of this truism, for he is being crushed by the weight of his dual allegiance, his satisfaction at his own skill rapidly being replaced by crippling doubt and fear. He is nervous, worried, harried at all times like a paranoiac, afraid to death that someone is about to find him out for who he really is, even though the chances of this happening are less now than any other time in the past. No matter how hard he throws himself into his work, no matter how many layers of protective lies he spins, his fear and anxiety grow almost daily, to the point where even he cannot fake it anymore. So far, it has not led him to make a fatal mistake, but only time will tell if it ever does, and he is beginning to fear that the mis-step which will doom his efforts and expose him for the snake he is, is only a matter of time.

And he's not even sure he doesn't want it to happen.

On a prosaic note, Archon is not particularly combat effective, his Arc Welder and melee appendages notwithstanding. He has no ranged combat capacity, is not particularly fast, and while agile, has no staying power whatsoever. All he has to rely upon are his wits, and, caught between the Maximals and the Predacons, he is afraid that those will no longer suffice soon enough.

I'm going to point this out here and hope that this spreads from here to other games where it may come up.

Secret agents only work if none of the other players know you're a secret agent. Frankly, it's OOC info that is far too tantalizing for many PC's to not try to sneakily get IC. The only time I've ever seen a secret agent actually work was in the Vampire game from awhile back, and that was because an almost completely false character sheet was given and the real one was kept solely between the GM and the player.

I appreciate that concern Charon, and I'll withdraw the character if people think it's going to be too much of a problem. But I don't mind that tendancy as long as people aren't TOO overt with it. If I get caught, I intend for it to be my fault.

I WOULD appreciate it if people would try to separate OOC and IC knowledge (if DS approves this character, that is), but I'm not worried about the natural tendency to conflate the two that we all have.

Name: Einsimian
Faction: Maximals
Function: Science Geek
Alt Mode: Orangutan

Quote: "Science is the greatest pursuit"

Bio: A great scientist capable of great reasoning the Autobot Einsimian is known to be one of the most powerful minds that has ever been programed. Known for his skills in programing and physics he is a keen mind with great reasoning skills. Never having fought a Decepticon/Predacon the transformer is untested in true life and death battle and will hopefully fare well but it is yet to be seen.

Weapons/Abilities:
1: Energon Sabre: This energon blade extends from his left forearm to let him strike at opponents as well as disect things and weld things.

2: Repeating Medium Blaster: Used primarily for self defense, this high ROF weapon extends from above his right wrist.

3: Extreme Sensors: These sensors are highly tuned scientific instruments that can nearly reach low orbit.

Weakness:
1: Untested in Battle: Unsure of his capabilities as a warrior, his blaster is still at factory standards, although cleaned regularly and fired a few times in practice, he has never fired it in anger.

2: Highly Analytical: Will look at the big picture before the picture of how things are at the moment, and will tend to attempt to predict how things are going to happen. This causes his reaction time to be slower then it should be as he is constantly thinking.

3: Energon Crystal Weakness: He has problems being near large deposits of Energon Crystals without first turning off his sensors. Any deposit of Energon Crystals weighing over 50 pounds will blind his sensors for a few minutes or until he can recalibrate.

She's coming slowly... this is all I have so far. Help/suggestions appreciated
Name: Ringtail
Faction: Maximal / Fembot model
Function: GeoCartographer
Alt Mode: Mongoose

Quote: "Ok.. I've seen everything here... What's over -that- mountain!"

Bio: Ringtail fits the supposedly ancient mongoose motto perfectly: "Run and Find Out!". In this case, she runs to find out what's over the next hill, or on the next planet. She can't seem to relax until she knows as much as she can about where she is ... and once she does it only satisfies her for a short time before she feels like moving somewhere new. A scientific expedition seemed the perfect match for her restless personality.

Weapons/Abilities:
Laser Pistol. She is not the best shot in the world, but the semi-automatic function of the pistol makes up for that slightly with its three-round bursts. The pistol can also fire singleshot when needed.

While she is a little smaller than most Maximals, she is tougher than she looks due to her habit of mapping by physically hiking the area. This has left her a well-rounded athletic 'bot, with good endurance and strong jumping and climbing skills.

Weakness: Acquistive Nature: Ringtail likes shinies, and often can't help herself from going out of her way, and often out on a limb, to acquire some bauble that has caught her eye. The pretty shiny may be nothing more than a flower of a type she'd never seen before, or a brightly-colored feather from a wild bird, but Ringtail feels the need to have one as a momento of where she's been. Her Shinies are kept in the best condition possible, and she hoards and displays them to their fullest. After all, they are SHINIES, and need to be shown off as they all stand for treasured memories. This makes her a little of a packrat, however, as she can't bear to throw any of her shinies away.

Havoc: See me in AIM today for discussion of Archon. I agree with Charon and Frigid....a "secret agent" only works if the rest of the players don't know your a secret agent. The temptation is to great for other players to use OOC knowledge IC.

Jason_Firewalker....I'll just qute and edit the sheet a bit.

(1) No Maximal or Predacon come equipped with Energon based melee weapons. Such weapons have to be intricately fashioned and are energy intensive on their internal fuel reserves. Switch it to something non Energon based, make it some made up metal.....

(2)Only flyers get the real fancy long range sensors, and even then in the original show, that was Air Razor on the Maximal side. Your a ground pounding boy in Robot and Beast modes. You can have intricate sensors for looking at things up close, hell, you can have a full suite of scientific sensors at your disposal (though of course they won't be as accurate as the ones on the Axalon by nature), but you don't get a full OTH sensor suite that reaches low orbit.

(3) All Cybertronian's are susceptible to exposure of Raw Energon Crystals. You honestly want to make your character go blind just from looking at 95% of the planet? Sorry, that's to debilitating....you can make your character a bit more susceptible to "Energon poisoning" like Nitram did...otherwise..scratch it and have his more advanced sensors become scrambled by significant deposits of Energon.

Only other thing I ask..is give me a bit more to work with here rather than a list......it's kinda...clinical the way you put it. Subject the changes in a new sheet, but you don't have to change the overall character (I actually LIKE the character except for those three things).

Tev...have her be a Rattrap analogue, give her a pistol or something similar for weapons.

The other issue with infiltrators and OOC knowledge is that a lot of the time PCs will metagame like crazy to allow other PCs into their group, completely raping characterization to do so. Infiltrators don't get that either.

Name: Einsimian
Faction: Maximals
Function: Science Geek
Alt Mode: Orangutan

Quote: "Science is the greatest pursuit"

Bio: A great scientist capable of great reasoning the Maximal Einsimian is known to be one of the most powerful minds that has ever been programed. Known for his skills in programing and physics he is a keen mind with great reasoning skills. Never having fought a Predacon the transformer is untested in true life and death battle and will hopefully fare well but it is yet to be seen.

Weapons/Abilities:
1: Telatonic Sabre: This high density and high edge blade extends from his left forearm to let him strike at opponents as well as disect things and weld things.

2: Repeating Pulse Blaster: Used primarily for self defense, this high ROF weapon extends from above his right wrist.

My experience, Cyncat, from the previous game, is that the exact opposite will happen. Some players will metagame like crazy to abuse OOC knowledge and expose infiltrators with absolutely no evidence whatsoever, expunging them from the party rather than including them. I imagine that tendency is what Frigid and Charon and DS are referring to. We encountered that in the last game.

A lot.

But honestly, that tendency really doesn't worry me this time around. I wrote it all out in plain text because it would have become instantly obvious otherwise, through internal monologue and the like. I wanted everyone to know ahead of time what his circumstance was going to be. I even anticipated a bit of OOC/IC melding in his case. That was all part of the plan.

I'll discuss this with DS and we'll see, but honestly, I don't see why it has to be such a big deal.

I phrased it poorly. What I meant was that non infiltrators get the benefit of OOC knowledge and metagaming by being easily integrated in the group, even when they act in such a manner that would get an NPC taken out and shot. This is an additional strike against infiltrators since they don't get the benefit of this metagaming even if they don't get the shaft from anti-infiltrator metagaming.

Well that may be so, but in any event, I'm working with DS to see what can be done.

Havoc's stated he's willing to play it out, and in fact, wants the possibilities to happen for this character, so it is approved as is.

Tevar: Approved

Jason: Approved.
