Mage the Ascension: Rule of Shade

"Let's stay out of people's heads for now. To much chance of attracting attention." Boxer said firmly.

[Comrade Tortoise]

"I have already read their emotions. Why stop now? If you have a better option, that will attract less attention than this, that involves doing something other than sitting and waiting for the next corpse, and there will be more, I am all ears"

[frigidmagi]

"How about we can't help anyone if we attract so much attention that mirrorshades come running through the front door. Not to mention you are drastically unlikely to close the case so to speak by mind reading a crowd and cops. No. Wait, we have other things going." Boxer said firmly.

[LadyTevar]

"If there are that many people about the site, any scent trail will have been hopelessly muddled," Supiyaw said, sending Jason a superior look, as she knew his idea wouldn't have worked. "I am not a bloodhound, and invisible or not, I will not risk myself in a crowd."

[Charon]

Jason nodded. "Gotta agree with Boxer, for now getting into peoples heads might attract a little too much notice. At least, too much notice while we're near the crime site."

Jason looked at Supiyaw, still smiling himself. "The crowd won't be an issue, I'm planning on them being elsewhere entirely. As for the scent, I wanted you there more because I know were-creatures are usually much more in tune with the spirits and slipping into the spirit realm than I think most of us are."

Supiyaw's slight stiffening may have gone unnoticed by the non-felines, as she smoothly hid it by drawing herself up to her full height. "Crossing the Gauntlet is not easy nor is it safe, Jason," she retorted distainfully. "There are many baleful spirits attracted to sites of murder and violence, of such power that I refuse to cross into their midst."

She hated being made fun of, she knew that Jason would never let it rest if she gave him an excuse, but if he pressed the issue she would rather lie and claim she got stuck than admit only the blasted Garou can step sideways freely. Damn their foul mangy hides.

[Comrade Tortoise]

"Then, Boxer, what do you suggest doing? I am not trying to crack the case, but see if there was anything left out of the case file, or the news. The police, especially the forensics team, knows that information. We may be able to see exactly how much information has been cleaned up. So, do you have a better option? Because the other option I am hearing, flatly, will not work."

He sighed, before continuing

" If for no other reason than because it will be rather difficult to hide a were-panther slipping into the spirit realm. If a surface scan of an individual police officers mind will draw too much attention, and my last spell certainly did more than that because I have already read the emotions of everyone within that window, that plan is going to have the technocracy nuking our chantry from orbit."

[Cynical Cat]

Arkady scribbled down the addresses. "I am going to site, check for resonnances in Quintessence. Tasha can check to see if Gauntlet violated." He scooped up his familiar, who climbed his sleeve to perch on his shoulder. "Company welcome," he said as he headed to his car.

[Comrade Tortoise]

Russell sighed and closed the window for his spell.

"I suppose I will go" he said and followed the russian.

[Charon]

Jason paused as Arkady took charge and walked off. "Hey! It was my idea!"

The young man glowered for a moment before he ran past Arkady to get to his own car.

Supiyaw threw her hands up in disgust, before looking to Boxer. "Would you like me to go with them, Boxer, before they find more than they can handle?"

[Comrade Tortoise]

"I wont be slinging magick around without the group's consent. But if we dont get out of the chantry and look, we wont find anything" Russell called back as he walked out the door.

Boxer sighed and nodded at the werecat.

At this rate I should consider myself a babysitter he thought to himself.

Supiyaw nodded to Boxer, before turning with a rustle of her sari and breezing out after Russell, Arkady, and Jason. In deference to Arkady's fears, she headed for Jason's car, opening the passenger door. "Do you ever think before you act, Jason?"

"Not exactly what you thought you'd be doing," a very proper, almost British accented voice asked behind Boxer as the others left the room.

Rumor stood behind the young Magus, those intellegent, almost human eyes looked upon the young man firmly.

"For someone who is concerned about digging up yesterday, to better tomorrow...you seem to be focused on today."

The five foot tall cat padded his way till he stood next to Boxer, the head turning to look at him, "He started that way also...centuries back...Your walking the path about the same as he did....."

With those cryptic words, Rumor began to pad away, disappearing as he stepped into a thin shadow cast by the back of a chair.

[Cynical Cat]

Arkady opened the door and Tasha jumped from his shoulder to his seat and then hoped in back. [Russian]"You know she is a cat, not a dog,"[/Russian] she said softly.

"I noticed," Arkady replied. [Russian]"And don't tell me it was nothing." [Russian] He slipped into the seat and fastened his seat belt.

[Russian] "I was very scared," Tasha said in a soft voice. "but it wasn't her."[/Russian]

"I know," he said. "Just startled me, that's all. Never been that close to one before. And Anna."

"Not her."

"I know. It just will take time getting use to."

[Comrade Tortoise]

Russell didnt say anything to indicate that he heard anything as he got in the car. He figure that Arkady had forgotten that he was fluent in russian and felt it better to not remind him that his attempt at not having outsiders evesdrop didnt work. It would only cause trouble that Arkady didnt need.

"That was... surprising. Never knew were-panthers existed"

[Cynical Cat]

"There are worse ways of learning about such things," said Arkady. "Fasten seat belt."

[Comrade Tortoise]

Russell put on his seat belt

"I imagine all of that depends on the particular temperment of the were-panther. As well as other were-creatures "

[Cynical Cat]

"Yes," said Arkady. "Slavering jaws, exploding through door, not so good."

"I should have stayed in my room." he muttered.

Jason looked over at Supiyaw and grinned. "Sure. Well, maybe it's more thinking as I act, but that's close enough right?"

With that Jason put his old junker in gear, there was a click and a shuddering "shuck" and then they were off.

Supiyaw deliberately tightened her seatbelt. Outside of magick, she did not think Jason's clunker could attain high rates of speed, but Jason was still only 18. Boys that age were often brainless and stupid when it came to fast cars.

Arkady turned the engine over. "Away we go."

Two cars left the Chantry house, driving the lengthy drive onto Silverguarde Road, the street connecting the estate to the township. The drive across Point Pleasant was anything but, Darkmuth University was completely across the city from the Chantry, and traffic on the main highway was horrible for some reason.

As it was, it would take nearly a hour and a half to get to the college, what should have been a thirty minute drive. The reason for the traffic jam became apparent as the two cars, at separate times, passed by a horrific accident, a eighteen wheeler had plowed into three automobiles and a city bus. Police and medical vehicles were everywhere, as were a few fire trucks.

The police were filing the cars along as best they could, ushering the drivers to pass their cars by without the lookie-lous and rubberneckers holding up traffic even more.

Upon arriving at the university, the scene hadn't changed much from the Scrying. Students where still milling about, traveling to and from classes, hanging out in the Quad between activities. It looked very much like a standard University Quad, except for the small crosses and momentous, along with the cleared area near where the other two bodies were found...and the police co-ordined area where the latest girl was located.
