{Ital} "I can help him," Jhelian insisted to Manfred, strangely confident now. Madness lay in the mind, heal the mind, calm the madness Her voice dropped into oddly accented Latin, as if the prayer she chanted softly was far older than the Latin used by the Church. {Lat}"Blessed Father, Source of Magic, open my mind, give me eyes and ears unseen. Grant me insight and wisdom, to know the thoughts within."{Lat}
Should the prayer be heard, she would be able to touch Francesco's thoughts, hear what he hears, know what he knows as it crosses the forefront of his mind.

He was not aware of those that followed after him. His mind was preoccupied with other things; his steps were measured and meticulous however carrying him at a steady pace towards his desired destination. He could no longer feel anything through his ward, it was not totally unexpected. He had crafted it to encircle the town but it would only trigger once the perimeter of the town itself was breached. It did not track the individual creatures that had breached into the town, that feature would have added to the complexity of the spell. It would have cost him too much might.
He reached the edge of the entrance and was pleased by what he saw. There were no signs of destruction and that was good but there were also no sounds of fighting. The likelihood that two guards could so quickly dispatch a spawn of the night was low. Then again, they were not the only types of undead that existed. Still, concern clawed at his insides. He reached the final corner and turned, his eyes seeking the truth in the hope that it would dispel the concern within his heart.
The silence greeted him with a lurid smile, the guards that reality offered twisting themselves into macabre caricatures. He did not see guards as they scampered back towards their positions, he saw two Vampires preparing themselves for conflict after being discovered. Behind him, the sounds of Lady Jhelian’s approach went unheeded as emerald orbs hardened.

Shaking his head, Agrilos was amazed at the hidden twists and turns in this night so far. He also, though he didn't admit it even to himself readily, wished he'd spent a little more time learning the language of the winds to weave the magick of the Element he was born to instead of spending all the time learning swordplay and combat.
Even so...if what he was feeling and seeing was the consequence of power, then he could be satisfied with being patient. Power may be seductively enticing, but keeping his sanity was more so.
Agrilos watched the new arrival (perhaps a mercenary that arrived late? He hadn't had the chance to ask yet) Jhelain weave a spell of the Mind, and was now staring emptily at Francisco - who was at the moment paused in his efforts to send everything and everyone around him into the depths of a terrible inferno, from the looks of the fire-dagger-things that were still moving in mid-air.
Deciding to do what he could, even if it wasn't much, he began helping the citizens of the town into the haven of the church, helping the elderly and the very young cross the threshold of safety.
Once it looked as if all the townsfolk who needed help inside had been helped, he decided to look this town over from above. Running away from this part of town at a brisk run for a minute or two, he kept going until he saw nobody around. The winds heard his request to make his feet light, and his leap into the air took him soaring into the night air with arms stretched upward. As he swept his arms down, it seemed as if his entire form began to grow more insubstantial and fog-like, but quickly resolved itself into the shape of a peregrine falcon strongly flapping his wings downward to gain altitude.
Once he'd gained a high enough perspective, he began to fly a scouting circuit around the town, looking with the piercing gaze of a falcon at all taking place in and around his small township.

Manfred raised his hands and spoke a single word in latin "Tectum" and the earth rose up to form a wall around the targets of the mad wizards spell, and this earthen wall was sheathed in a defensive enchantment that would prevent him from being able to spontaneously combust the inside or drain the life force of those within by disrupting his ability to channel the spell into the area he intends.
Hopefully it would shield them while the other wizard did her work

Jhelian was surprised, she did not mean to be drawn fully into Francesco's mind, only to sift the surface of his thoughts, like trailing her fingers through the surface of a creek. The imagery inside his mind was beautiful, showing her he was a religious man at heart, but there was a shadow here....

The image with the twin emerald orbs watched Jhelian's manifestation in Francesco's mind dispassionately. She had no real body to speak of only a shape, its eyes were the only feature and those were proving quite difficult to read. It waited until Jhelian had finished before it answered.
"A test of his own devising of course." The voice said. "Francesco is coming face to face with his own pride. He has forgotten that while his newfound power protects him from most kinds of external interference, it does not protect him from his own internal instability. Once he comes to terms with that, he will be the stronger for it." Killing a handful of people now would make it so that he would never forget this mistake. As far as it was concerned, it was a worthy sacrifice.
"As for who I am Tahalshia? I am guide. I have been here since the beggining and here I will remain. As for your name, it is one well known. I do not fear you nor those that came before you. I admit looking upon you, I am filled with two conflicting emotions. I have not decided as of yet if I should seek to harm you or thank you. I see too much of her in you." She added remaining silent for a few seconds as if considering its own train of thoughts.
"Understand this. I have cautioned Francesco about you. You are not to be trusted." There was a pause as it felt the Tahalshia's magic reach out and began her chant. It listened as the guest within Francesco's mind sought to affect him and remained silent. What would be Francesco's reaction to this?
The two dozen swords of blue fire seemed to contract even further teetering on the brink of being released and in doing so seek out their targets. Jhelian's whisper was barely perceptible at first by his senses but it grew in strength with each passing second. His eyes flickered, taking notice that a haze had surrounded all of the vampires around him.
What is happening?
He thought and there was no response. There was a presence a warmth in his mind he could feel it but could not adequately describe it. It was getting brighter, warmer. What was it? Who was it? His head turning his eyes flickering from Vampire to Vampire. It was as if they were transfixed, they were not moving.
It would hardly be smart for them to move would it not? Even their speed would avail them little in a situation such as this.
Why did you not answer me before?
I answer you now. I will not always be here for you. I am a guide, but you retain your will to do as you see fit. I can only offer counsel.
Who is attacking me?
I can offer you no answer. Instead, I ask you how does it feel? Is it an attack or is it something else?
Francesco strained to listen to the words that were moving at the very edges of his perception. There was something familiar about the incantation.
It is a prayer.
So it seems. Do Vampires pray Francesco?
Francesco blinked. How could they? They were creatures of the night, extensions of the deceiver but they did not believe. If such, why should they pray? The Vampires seemed to flicker before his senses and then where there had been Vampires he saw people. The wall of Earth becoming clearer.
"..."
He reached out and unravelled the individual strands that linked him to the two dozen burning blades. Upon doing so, the individual blades expanded and stopped their vibrations. Within a dozen heartbeats the magical energy that had sustained them was gone and each shrunk to the size of a marble before ceasing to be with a whimpered hiss. The cessation of the spell brought with it something that he had not expected, it was akin to someone punching his gut. The wings of fire ended abruptly. It was a magical drain that nearly made his entire body shiver. He visibly swayed for a moment before managing to remain upright.
"My...Apologies." He managed to push between his lips. Suddenly it felt as if he had twice the weight of the world in his shoulders.
What?
That spell was above you Francesco. You are not quite ready to craft something along those lines.
What was it?
In time, you will know the name. Your body will need rest, a lot of it and soon.
"I think that I am going to rest." He said, his eyes showing genuine regret at what had almost transpired. He was hiding his mortification at what he had almost done. Right now, he wanted to go somewhere and disappear for a while. He took a step forward and then another.
In his mindscape the image focused emerald orbs on the Tahalshia.
"You have accomplished your goal. You presence here is no longer welcome. Don't make a habit of trying to probe Francesco's thoughts. It will not be so easy the next time." The image said and faded. It would wait ten seconds or so allowing the Tahalshia the time she would need to withdraw. If she squandered that time, it would push. Hard.

Jhelian did not dally, exiting as fast and as painlessly as her gifts allowed. Like Francesco, she too suddenly staggered as her returned fully to herself.
The guide? Did she imply what I think?
She knew your mother. She threatened you.
How? How could she know Mama? She was a shadow in his mind!
Do you wish to go back and ask?
.......
I thought not.
{Ital} "Francesco... do you know what you were about to do?" Jhelian asked softly, watching him cautiously with large dark golden eyes.

Manfred could feel the arcane power wielded by the Italian wizard subside, and came to the conclusion that Jhellan had calmed his mind. He released his defenses. The misdirection enchantment unravled in a wink of blue-white power, and the earthen shell subsided into the ground.
[ita]"Now is... not the time Jhellan. We will have to talk to him when he has his wits about him. Lest we cause him to become defensive or so melancholy he opens his own wrists" [/ita]
Memories of a titanic magical battle entered his mind.
Do not let my fate become his...
'I wont... Believe me I wont. One way or the other'
"As it stands, we have business to attend. Paul... you had something you needed to tell me? Please tell me you have information"

The guards and townspeople who had seen the display of power by Francesco were still frozen in terror as within an hour of saving them one of their heroes almost tried to kill them. As the problem diffused the populace scattered again, trying to keep very far away from the wizards.
As Agrilos floated serenely above the city, it was clear that much of the people must have been out and about in the streets. But aside from the commotion that Francesco had caused and the standard commotion of partying in the streets there did not appear to be anything out of place.

After making a few high circles above the small town, Agrilos had observed as much as he was able to from the air. He allowed himself to deeply enjoy the feeling of the wind sweeping past him in the way that only taking the form of a peregrine falcon could for a few moments before beginning his descent.
Going into an acrobatic dive, he swept in ever-widening circles to slow down as he neared the ground below. On the last leg of the spiral, he glided to a stop in nearly the same place he had taken off from, and was pleased to see no observers. Unlike the mages, he couldn't unleash a terrible and destructive conflagration to signify his ire. He would have to live with simply not being observed doing something "questionable."
The form of the peregrine falcon with sharp grey eyes shimmered and looked ethereal and mist-like for a moment, before resolving like a tornado into Agrilos' normal form, complete with clothes. His grey eyes opened, and he walked back to where he had left Jhelain, Francisco, and Manfred earlier.
After a minute or two of walking, he walked back into view of the others, and approached. "[Italian]Nothing really suspicious or shocking seems to be going on right now. Most of the town is awake, celebrating and happy, apart from the ones Francisco scared.[/Italian]"
He repeated his message once in German for the ones who didn't speak Italian, and with that, he made his way to the church.

Though he wasn't walking with quite the same spring in his step as he had earlier today, he was walking with a ground-eating pace. He looked for and located each of the mercenaries he knew of, and notified them of the impending discussion.

"Ho!" John calls out to the assistant as he arrives. "I have questions most urgently in need of answering. They pertain to the attack you have just suffered."John passed through the crowd with the practiced ease that came from his age. Expertly pushing aside and greeting those who praised him for what he had done and carefully countering the advances of several loose women. John reached the blacksmith to see only one of the assistants still tending to the furnace.
John collects the three wheellock weapons on his person and places them on the closest suitable surface. "These weapons were made by the same hands, if you know not whose then fetch the master."

The apprentice looked at the wheellocks for a moment and then shook his head. "They do look similar but I can't be certain. They're similar to my master's handiwork. He is gone at the moment however, he keeps a boat of supplies out on the river and went to it a few hours ago. Though he should be back soon."The Silence and I wrote:"Ho!" Almost as if on que the master blacksmith turned a corner and his apprentice spotted him. "Ah, there he is!" The young boy waved his hand high. "Master Johann! The man who was working here earlier had some questions about some hardware!"
The blacksmith stopped for a moment in apparent surprise that he had a visitor and then hesitently stepped up to where the boy and John were standing. His eyes flicked between John's face and the three wheellocks. "What can I help you with then?"

He ceased walking, his eyes managing to make contact with those of Jhelian for a moment before he forced himself to look away. “I had been about ready to try and kill you all, with a song in my heart.â€

"Its's alright... go get some sleep" Manfred replied "I am not certain that the inn or church are safe however... if our enemies are inside the town as I suspected from the moment I got here... even a broken clock is right twice a day... I can probably construct a safe place for you, if you wish it... I plan on doing so for our conversations from now on."
Manfred was surprised at how lucid he was. It probably would not last long, an after-effect of his mental-struggle. The voice persisted, naturally, but that was something different... a different pathology than his paranoia, mania, or sadistic streak even when The Other did not have control...
You should get this done quickly, and my grand-apprentice will need instruction to defend himself, if he will have it
Said the voice, his mental projection of his old master.

"I was hoping to find some answers here. These three weapons, as you and I can tell, were made by the same hands. One," John indicates the longer gun, "I found here. The other two I acquired from a pair of vampires earlier this night. This has created a puzzle in my mind. Perhaps you can help bring order to my wondering mind?"Charon wrote:The apprentice looked at the wheellocks for a moment and then shook his head. "They do look similar but I can't be certain. They're similar to my master's handiwork. He is gone at the moment however, he keeps a boat of supplies out on the river and went to it a few hours ago. Though he should be back soon."

Johann was quiet for awhile before finally nodding slowly "Yes, these weapons all look to be made by the same hand." Johann had not seemed to examine the three guns at all before he made the assertion. He looked at John closely for a few seconds and then smiled. "These were all made by me," Johann paused as he seemed to ponder how to put his next words, obviously trying to put them in the right words "Man who is not a man."The Silence and I wrote:"I was hoping to find some answers here. "Few have such insight." He adopts a more casual posture, hands at his side and he shifts slightly back from Johann. "What do you intend to do with it?"

Johann shook his head. "Nothing except ask that you wait and allow me to explain myself before you decide what to do with me." Johann's expression, and the way he held himself, gave the impression that he felt very old, very worn-down. He was quiet as he waited for John's response to his offer. The Silence and I wrote:John's face suddenly relaxes into expressionlessness with the speed of one surprised.Charon wrote:Johann was quiet for awhile before finally nodding slowly "Yes, these weapons all look to be made by the same hand."
