"A shadow's width away." Malkamar spoke, behind Torma, with a grin. "You think I'd let myself get stranded?" The shadows dissipated around him, and he stretched out. "I considered it. If it was a trap, I could have followed them back."

A priest rushed over to the wounded man and began uttering healing prayers. Several other Triad members were in attendence, watching the scene carefully with hands near their weapons.

Torma eyed all those with hands near their weapons. "Oh come on! It's not like you've never seen a wounded man before... Maybe youv'e never seen a copper dragon? Is that why you're being so wary?" Her head was moving looking at each of the cleric/paladins in turn. "It's not like I'm a Chromatic Dragon ... surely they teach you the difference here, right? And do you *really* think I'd be traveling with anyone *not* worthy of me? Honestly... And I'm even *named* for Torm ... one of my grandfathers fought beside him when he was young. So why are you all standing around looking like I'm about to steal the Temple's silverware?"

Yes, the mouthy little copper was childing Paladins and Clerics of the Triad for being suspicious. As to her grandfather... well... they do live for centuries. Whether it's true or not, she believes it is, because that's what she heard from her parents. Dragons wouldnt' brag about something like that without reason, now *would* they....

Malkamar simply opened his hands and lifted them, showing them empty. "Forgive my draconic friend.. She's given to a boasting tongue in her youth. We're with Gaheris, and we humbly apologizing for intruding on this holy sanctum in this way."

Gaheris knelt by Solarian's side as the acolyte priest finished his ministrations. "Thank you, Brother," he said, nodding to the cleric. He then turned to his man.

"Would that all our foes were so sloppy. Tymora smiled on you today, son. What happened?"

"Following Tregar and some new guy. Nothing special, making the rounds, extortion, the usual. They were as sloppy as hell, no precautions, as if they owned the slums. Then some dog lover stabs me in the kidneys. Never saw him, never heard him. Puts another one in my lung before I drop. Tall bastard, scarf over his face, but I'll know him again if I see him. Doesn't even take my purse. I'm trying to get up, but my damn legs won't work. He goes on his merry way, doesn't talk to the Night Masks or anything."

Gaheris frowned. "Tregar is an incompetent lout. Has all the subtlety of the Tarrasque bashing down the walls of Waterdeep. I doubt he arranged this. Someone is hunting us, not that that's news." He offered his hand to Solarian to help him get up, keenly aware that the priests and a few lay followers of Grimjaws were watching intently. He was immensely relieved that they hadn't popped into the sanctuary in the middle of a Mass...

"If that is the case, and we are being hunted. Perhaps it would be prudent to take certain extra precautions to disquise ourselves when out in public. Or perhaps avoid being seen in public altogether" the archmage whispered through the sash covering his mouth, at just the right volume to be heard by his companions.

Torma's head swiveled, looking over at the man Gaheris was helping to his feet. "Do you think the one who stabbed him was the same one who'd tried to follow us from the city gates?" she asked, seemingly innocently. Stupid questions are expected from children, but there is a reason for the saying 'Truth from the Mouth of Babes'.

Yes, the dragon was still young, but her mind was as sharp as any cleric in the temple. She could connect the lines as well as anyone, all she lacked was experience to temper her youth.

"The man who was following us wasn't particularly tall, but I'd be surprised if he wasn't working with or for someone else. Come on, the sanctuary isn't the best place to talk about this." Gaheris motioned to Solarian and walked towards a side door, meaning to go to the monastery and use one of the monks' assembly rooms.

Malkamar bowed quietly to those assembled in the room, urging the dragon to come with him into the side room with the paladin. "Many apologies for the interruption, my lords." He said briskly.

"Hey! Watch how you're pushing, Malk!" Torma protested, following Gaheris out of the sanctuary. She was half-tempted to use her tail to knock Malk's feet out from under him for nudging her like that, just because she'd not started moving yet. "Big Bully...." said the 12ft long dragon to the 6ft tall Shadovar.

Gaheris rolled his eyes and kept walking, fervently hoping that the Abbot wouldn't walk in on this scene. Or worse yet, Justiciar Krelben. If that overbearing, ignorant devotee of conventional thinking came in just now, he'd never hear the end of it...

Gaheris walked right out of the temple and crossed the cobbled courtyard to the monastery building, entering through it's front door and making for a vacant training room.

"Someone's following us.. How troublesome." Malkamar sighed, without the gravitas one might expect for having an assassin trailing them out in that city. "I was hoping we'd have at least some element of surprise on our sides. Still, we can hope their knowledge of our capabilities are limited."

"Yeah," responded Gaheris as he ushered those who followed him into the vacant room. "I'll set men to try and find out just who's behind this. I'll ask the monks as well, but they're not nearly so well equipped to find things out as they are to simply taking people down."

"Come the morrow, if you require it, I may be able to bend my own skills to the task. THe use of certain divinations can often times open doors which would remained closed when information is saught by other means. I will have to decide which spells will be of use of course... but I am sure I have something which will be usefull in the endevor" the mage said quietly.

"Hmmmmmm. Unusual, and unusually sloppy to not blend in with his surroundings. I'm unsure whether we're dealing with professionals or rank amateurs, from what we've seen so far. Best to assume the former until we know." He shifted position slightly. "Solarian, I'm going to try and get into contact with the rest of your cell. I hope you weren't all exposed. If not, Gregor will want to know you're safe. If so, well..."

The copper dragon's tail was twitching as she listened to the talk going all around her. Her eyes followed the conversation, but other than the twitching tailtip she could have been a statue.

"We could give them a target to focus on..." she finally drawled out in a 'you guys are so oblivious' tone. "They are looking for a mage and a copper dragon, at the very least. And we Coppers are well known to not like being shut up indoors and hidden. So." Her head rose imperiously. "I wanna go to an inn. One with large rooms, and nice entertainment."

Gaheris chuckled. "There's always the Purple Lady, but I don't think we want to walk into the tiger's mouth quite that openly," he said. "I'm thinking either the Rosebud or the Jolly Warrior. The Rosebud might be able to better accommodate you, since they mostly serve outdoors, but the Jolly Warrior is easily the best inn inside the walls."
