I don't know if the mercenaries are assumed to have rooms, as I recall that was never played out. If John has no room then he will attempt to acquire one and immediately retreat within it. I will have no easy access to the internets until Friday so I prolly won't edit as may be needed until then. Charon: if I'm holding things up call me and I'll see about borrowing a laptop so things can move on. Until I get my own laptop I will be away from the internet mon-thu more or less every week. Getting such a device is becoming a priority though.

Okay. I've been running this idea through my mind for a bit and I'd like to set up some kind of generic stat system for you guys, just so we all know where everybody is in terms of their abilities. This would be something really simple, just a 1-10 system that would encompass your physical stats, your mental stats, stuff like that. Not sure exactly what stats I want to use yet so any suggestions and ideas are welcome.
I'm thinking that for the most part 2 would be the "average" stat with either five or six being the human maximum, though I am more than open to changing that. Magical ability would be a stat as well and for non-wizards it would just be that stat going from one to ten. For wizards you would seperate it into each of your spheres of magic which would go from 1-11.

If you want to do stats, I suppose keeping it concise wouldn't hurt.

I had meant it more on a basis of a general idea of where everybody thought their characters were and where I thought they were in terms of things like how much punishment they can absorb or how well chainmail would hold up against them swinging something at them, but I suppose I can live without any kinds of stats.
I really would like to keep some sort of record for wizards magic though. I think it would make keeping track of what a wizard can and can't do yet a lot easier (For example, if you have Life at 4, don't expect to be making a perfect revenant which would require at least a 6. Just an example, I'd need to actually come up with some restrictions if we do this.) With no real limits on magic except how powerful you are with the sphere I'd like to be able to have an easy referance for how powerful a wizard is with their sphere.

You don't need stats for that.
For example:
Paul
Strength: wiry, short skinny adolescent so stronger than he looks but weaker than a full grown man with a physically demanding job.
Agility and Quickness: A lot. For a mortal.
Endurance: Pretty good endurance, but he is a skinny dude.
Skills: He knows a little about magic and a lot about stealing.
Magical Powers: In extremis he had shoot blasts of magical fire from his hands. Not very much control.
Done. No stats.

For the non-magical stats and the magical abilities of non-wizards I'll agree with you. But for wizards the list of what they can do with magic tends to be one hell of a list that they can pretty much on a whim expand (for a price). Which means I have to arbitrarily decide what a character is capable of doing without them having any real say in the matter and with me having no real basis or explanation for it beyond "No I don't think you're that powerful yet." I know it's my perogative to do so but I'd prefer to have some kind of basis for my response. This problem for me is only going to get worse as the wizards get more powerful as well since they'll be capable of a wider variety of things.
It wouldn't be a hard stat, I wouldn't say "Oh your fire sphere is at 4 not five you can't do what you're trying to do" it would just serve to give me a better idea of where you are in terms of power. Which is also important once the guy who picked up counter and the guy with protection start going against magic. I want something that can help me determine how well their wards hold up.

Fuck that. You're just saying "5" is a stand in for "set town on fire". Your going to have to create an entire system and then, since it won't cover every contingency, wing it when people do want to do that. Why waste the time? Have "freeze lake" or "cover a band of soldiers in frost" be the descriptors instead of 3 or 4 and skip the creation of an entire system which isn't going to solve the problem anyway.

Just to say so officially, the whole stats thing is off. Yeah that idea wasn't one of my greatest, but ah well, that's why I brought it up.

It made sense to me. In a way it's comforting that both of the PC mages are either "deeply troubled" or "outright insane."
Well, okay, maybe not "comforting" - just "consistent."

Oh, so Jhelain is officially a mage as well?LadyTevar wrote:HEY! I'm not insane!
Well, shit. Manfred will be murdering every bird within a hundred square miles, Francisco will send everyone with slightly pointy canines on a one-way trip to a blazing inferno, and Jhelain...hears voices.
That's hilarious - then again, I suppose having one non-murder-happy mage might be refreshing.

Well, Francesco started the game with auditory hallucinations, which then graduated to "head six" syndrome and then picked up visual hallucinations recently. What has caused this little fiasco is that while his new protection spells protected him from mind games and external influence, it did not protect him from his own internal instability. Once he figures that out, he should stabilize some but he just got a fair chunk of new "oomph!" it will take some time for him to come to terms with the flip side of that. All we need now is the firm application of the clue by four. Assuming that works well, Francesco will be properly chastised and feeling very mortified. X_X

hey, Manfred just graduated from having auditory hallucinations, mania and paranoia to a full blown personality switch followed by a disassociative episode....and he still has the paranoia, auditory hallucinations and mania....
As I said, the interplay between the wizards should be.... fun
And now that we are safe, to have a conversation with paul

I'm just hoping that the more trigger-happy mages don't shoot down the nice bird who's just trying to look, is all.
And as much as I hate to admit it, Agrilos just used a small bit of Air magic (the Jump rote), so any conscious mages would've likely felt it.

It's a different kind of magic so it's a little harder to spot for them. So no guarantees.rhoenix wrote:I'm just hoping that the more trigger-happy mages don't shoot down the nice bird who's just trying to look, is all.

By the way, you guys are nowhere near the church now. The protected church is closer to the Northern enterance, you guys are at the River Enterance which is a good minute or two walk away.
