The kitten finished the piece of bacon and promptly jumped to the top of Torma's head, padding and circling between the copper's small horns. The expression on Torma's face as she tried to peer up there... first from one eye, then the other, while trying -not- to move her head was comical. At last the kitten settled into a small ball and seemed to fall immediately asleep, her full belly protruding.
Eyes still looking upward as a soft purring came from between her horns, Torma asked the question of cat-lovers everywhere. "... did I adopt her ... or did she just claim me?"

"Sneaking around is inherently limited in what it can bring to bear." Malkamar spoke. "Unless we have a small contingent of Shadovar soldiers.. And we don't... We are limited in what we can do once we find them. The addition of another faction merely makes our efforts more dangerous."
A glance is sent at the cat. "She's a cat. You're hers now."

"Maybe not," said Gaheris, his voice slightly muffled by a mouthful of egg. He swallowed before continuing. "The bunch from Elturel is after us, true, but the Masks don't usually take well to other criminals muscling in on their territory. They might take these boys out for us."SirNitram wrote:"Sneaking around is inherently limited in what it can bring to bear." Malkamar spoke. "Unless we have a small contingent of Shadovar soldiers.. "Overoptimistic." Malkamar shook his head. "Much safer to assume they're able to evade the Masks. Or worse, have a deal with them. "I've done nothing to them..." Torma stated simply. "... yet." She was thinking hard about going back for more eggs. They were just too delicious when cooked. Of course, there was the problem of balancing the plate as well as the kitten on her head. Damn... she doubted Malkamar would carry her food for her this time. Pity.

"there is another possibility which is just as frightening. That the masks are a non-issue to them. It is not very likely, but it is a possibility. As for the market Torma... shopping would serve you well. And I was not so foolish as to not prepare a polymorph spell. However I warn you, after yesterdays attacks I have more battle spells today, and may be better equipped to capture someone should it come up... but less able to diguise us"SirNitram wrote:"Overoptimistic." Torma eyed Astinius. "In short... if I go out, it's under Polymorph." The little dragon sighed. "You know, they already have tied me to you... do you *really* think polymorphing me would fool them? I'll still be copper-hued, I'd still be walking with the three of you. How stupid are these cultists to not get the idea?"
What concerned her more was if they were attacked, would Astinius be able to un-Polymorph her in time to defend herself.

"It is not diguising us from the cultists that concerns me. It is our more usual enemies. I have no illusions about foiling thayan cultists with simple spells. I may be able to do it, but it would take most of the spells I am capable of casting each day"

"Who said anything about Thayans? Elturel is west of..." [Listen 13+13=26]
"What in the Hells was that," he asked in alarm, standing up at the sound of a faint rumble from outside the abbey. Screams followed, prompting him to vault the tressel table and bolt out to the courtyard.

"An explosion... someone's attacking the abbey." Torma answered Gaheris, already on her feet and following at his heels. "Who is that stupid to attack in daylight?"
Torma just did notice the kitten as the little orange puffball leapt off her head and land to the side, disturbed by the sudden noises and how Torma was moving. Smart animal... run from the loud noise, not towards it.

"It is not stupidity.. But knowledge they hold the hands." Malkamar strode to the nearest arrow-slit, peeking out carefully. There was no sense exposing himself until he knew what he was up against.

Smoke rose from the top of the gatehouse as two huge crimson bat winged monstrosities bellowed in cruel triumph. Long fangs protruded from their maws and black talons tipped their hands. Each of them was taller and broader than an ogre and shrouded by a swirling black mist. One them raised its claw above a guard who was backed up against the edge of the battlement, his armour and flesh scorched and blackened. The claw came down. The guard's head hit the courtyard and bounced.

"By the Triad," Gaheris gasped as he saw the fiends. There wasn't time to waste, and he needed firepower. He began the ritual to summon Percival from the House of the Triad.

Torma's eyes were huge as she saw the monstrousities attacking the Abbey guards. "What... Are they?!" she squeaked, once again revealing just how young she truly was. Briefly, she thought that the orange kitten had the right idea after all, but as she watched the Abbey's protectors being so casually killed, a righteous wrath filled her.
She was a Dragon, one of Bahumet's children. These creatures, whatever they might be, were truly evil, and must be destroyed. Were she a silver, she would already be charging into the midst of battle. However... she was Copper dragon, of a lineage long engaged in a war versus the much larger Red Dragons for territory. A Copper did not win a battle head-on against such a powerful opponent. No, trickery and care won their battles.
"Gaheris... find out who's controlling these creatures!" Torma snapped at him, spreading her wings. "I'm going to try to slow them down...." Please Bahumet, let my breath weapon work on them, for the human's sake.... she prayed as she leapt into the air.

"Pit fiends!, use silver and good aligned weapons!" shouted the mage. His mind had to work quickly. He didnt have much chance of penetrating their resistance tomagic, but it was all he had and Astinius had no choice but to try.
he began uttering the initiators of one of his more powerful spells and hoped the Dragon and paladin could keep these things off his back long enough for him to do his work

"We'll never pierce their hide.." Malkamar growled, conjuring up his shadows with practiced easy. His blade was subtly different, as he poured Shadow Weave power into it. [Shadowcraft: +5 Shadow Striking Bastard Sword, DC 28. 21 + 15 = 36] Shadows burst around him protectively, solidifying.
"Fight as long as you can, let the temple evacuate. Then you lot need to run like hell, preferrably after contributing some magic to my spellfire." The Neth moved quickly to the courtyard to engage.
His sword would never bring one of these down. But if enough people could get free, he'd have a chance to take them down.. Albeit at a cost he didn't want to pay.

Words of unfathomable might whispered past Astinius' lips. His hands wove in strange and intricate patters as the power of the weave surged around him, bending the multiverse to his will.
The power of his Horrid Wilting spell sprung forth from his hands, and with a whispered prayer to Mystra that the magic penetrates their defenses, exploded out to sap the moisture from the bodies of the pit fiends, but missing anyone still alive on the gateouse roof

Dark vapour oozed from the pitfiend on the left and boiled off the one on the right. Both infernal monstrosities howled. The one on the left unleashed a hellish power upon the courtyard in the form of a storm of flittering shadows that flitted through the area stripping volition all who were engulfed.

The spell tried to bite and hold Torma in place, but her draconic nature laughed away the attempt to paralyze her. Her wings beat as she hovered in the air, nearly level with the beasts and to their side. The demons had been harmed by a spell, that much was clear. It was time to see if Acid would burn the fiery beasts.
Lining up, she used the most powerful of her attacks, breathing out a line of acid meant to hit both demons.
((Acid, 6d4 DC17. 4+4+1+2+3+4=18 dam Ilmater help anyone below in the splatterzone.))

The fiends leapt aside, averting the worst of th damage. Acid splattered on their armoured hides, but did not seem to seriously burn them.
