Heroes: Shadows over Millenium

"Trust me," said Blackheart, "it'll be gentler than how I had to put him out the last time."

Even within the life support field, the energy field which provided all for him, and which enshrouded him in it's protective glow, Saibot felt the increase of gravity, not long after landing on his feet from Legacies' throw. His muscles tensed as the additional forces piled ontop of him, and Blackheart yelled for him to stand down.

"He.....killed them.....he's a monster who slaughtered....." he said, the deep voice was groaning under the weight, but the construct moved on another few steps, "He...must be...stopped..."

It would have almost been heroic, if Saibot hadnt been intent on killing a fellow team member. Then the demon went to it's knees, began to flicker and shrink, as the stresses on his body became to much.

Seconds later, the field faded out, and he fell to the rooftop, unconcious.

"Nice work," said Blackheart. "Very well done."

Blast arrived and took a look. Geeze Saibot again? What the fuck was wrong with this guy?

"So what do we do now?" Blast asked.

Gravitas dissipated the excess gravity, nodding simply. "He should be fine, but get him checked anyway. I never like taking risks with such." The Nova shook his head. "And Blackheart expects us to function as a team... We couldn't get through an afternoon.."

A low growl emitted from the silver figure as Saibot went down. It searched around itself. Gravitas had brought him down, the target had gone into hiding, the one smart thing he'd done recently, Blast was on his way.

"Where is Argent?" Came the question in a half growl. This incident had the stench of the unstable emotion manipulator all over it.

"Yeah," said Blackheart, "we're fucked sideways with an diamond edged chainsaw. If we can't get it together and get it together fast, a lot of people are going to die because of it. There are a shitload of stuff getting in our way and some of it isn't anyone's fault, but that doesn't matter. Those deaths will still be on our heads. I don't want to carry that weight so lets get it fucking together before."

He looked around. "I thought I saw her just a moment ago. Where the Hades is she? Fuck it. Find her. Avatar that doesn't include you."

'I have no intention of moving. But you are right. We need to get over the petty bickering... and attempting to kill each other"

Blast snapped up his shield and slid into his other sight, Argent should be around here somewhere. He moved off towards where she and the others had been before all of this started.

A.J. watched the drama unfold helplessly, then followed Blast as he moved off to find the others.

"So, does this happen often?" He asked the marginally younger man.

"Someone turning into a giant glowing demon and demanding to be allowed to brutally murder his teammate? First time today. Haven't been around long enough to see if it's part of a pattern yet." Blast replied with a shrug. What could he say this was really the first day the team had been togather when someone else wasn't trying to kill them. At this rate it seemed they didn't need outside forced to try and kill them, they could do that fine on their own thanks...

"I only ask because Blackheart said something about 'the last time', and-" He stopped abruptly, noticing what looked suspiciously like a series of shadow-tendrils out of the corner of his eye. "Hold up, I think we're getting close."

"Wouldn't know about a last time, best let me go first, my shield hasn't failed me yet." Blast answered changing his course. He kept his voice matter of fact, like he did this everyday. Yep, hunted crazy shadow dragon empathic asian girls who could likely tear his head off without trying everyday. Well at least he could take her boyfirend, that had to count for something right? Right?

A.J. let Blast go first, deferring to his judgement; After all, A.J. didn't know if Argent had an attack that could get through his defenses.

Avatar stood there. Still a bit annoyed that Saibot went berserk and tried to kill him. He figured it for an empathic backlash, and thus was not going to be out for blood later, but it still irritated the hell out of him.

He dispelled the fog. Allowing the ambient air temperature to warm and the sun to take care of the rest

He looked around. "I thought I saw her just a moment ago. Where the Hades is she? Fuck it. Find her. Avatar that doesn't include you."

Seated in the shadow of the destroyed parking lot, Argent felt Saibot fighting the gravitational forces and fail. She had tried to contain her emotions, and failed. She had tried to pull the emotions that had set him off back inside her ... and failed. She'd tried to think of any way else to stop him ... and failed.

Now Garth was out cold, no more harm to Avatar or the team. The others would be looking for her soon, and she wondered if she should let them find her. This was all her fault, after all, due to the link with Saibot. She'd thought she had more control of herself, her emotions. She'd thought she'd kept them to herself, not shared them out.

This wasn't working. The bond, however it got between them, was risking not just her sanity but Garth's as well, and possiblity going to get the Ultimates team killed. She was going to have to find a way to shut off the bond, without even knowing how it got there in the first place.

The shadows pooled around her as she focused in on herself. Shut it down... shut it off. Just let go of all emotional ties... snip. snip. snip... Lock herself down, before she caused any more damage to anyone...

... and the shadows grew around her.....

Blast crept into view of pool of growing shadow. Well it didn't look like she was in the grips of homocidal...crococidal rage and demanding blood. His shield had stood up to monsters that could crush tanks barehanded, he was perfectly safe even if she was that pissed off. Suuuuurrrrreee and the tooth fariey would be joining the team next. Ah fuck it, what's the point if you cower from your own team?

"Aragent? Can you hear me? Are you okay? It's Blast, come on out of there and talk to me." He called out.

Blackheart spotted the mass of writhing shadow. It looked like the mercenary was becoming an emotional basketcase. Joy. "Argent," he called out, "what's wrong?" Besides the situation being so fucked up that he was the guy who was offering emotional support. Jesus fucking Christ.

Em had been knocked unconsicous when Lei had lashed out with her shadow whips. She was waking up as everyone was walking off. Her head hurt her arm was still bleeding and had dirt in it and her leg hurt from falling on it. She stood and limped her way back to where everyone had been standing. She strood there for a second before setting down on the ground to keep from passing out.

"This is fucked up..." She said quietly as she cradled her arm.

Argent heard them both.. Blast and Blackheart. The shadows that were surrounding her seemed to regard them as she softly spoke. "I caused the backlash... so I need to shut it down." Like Saibot earlier there was no emotion in the voice, just a calm statement of facts. "Cut the bond, close the links ... and it won't happen again."

Even as she spoke, both Blast and Blackheart felt something intangible stretching out towards Argent as she tried to cut the ties she'd made with them. "Shut it off, lock it down... no emotions in.. no emotions out..."

"Is this something you want to be doing in the middle of a ruined city? We handled it, noone was hurt. Let's not do something that could hurt someone when doing so well here. Come on, take a deep breath and put it down for now. Think on it. Hell the agency might have someone you can talk to about this. There's got be another empath... Somewhere around here." Blast said hurriedly. From the looks of things, this could go bad. But was she really overreacting? Ah fuck that Saibot was about as stable as a grenade in a gunpowder mill anyways.

"Argent, you aren't about to do something-" stupid was the word that came to mind, "drastic are you?" Because God knew doing something smart would a pleasant change. "We all just need to calm down and think clearly." That would be another pleasant change.

Gravitas was behind the two, and spoke up softly. It was a very soft voice, a voice that was laced with an understanding.

"You can't seal yourself away. The universe is part of you, you are part of the universe. Try and destroy that part of yourself, and you won't be there anymore." The Nova spoke, evenly. "...I understand what it feels like. Your powers caused trouble. Alot of trouble. It even wound up hurting one you love. I've been there. But you can't destroy the part of you that connects you two without destroying yourself.. And what would happen to him?"

Em was listening in on the conversation from A.J.'s mind she could sense her there but there was a 'don't mind me feeling' about her presence. She didn't want to push anymore buttons, just didn't want to be left out of the loop. -Tell her I'm sorry. I know I didn't help any...-

The shadows seemed to pause again, watchfully.

Argent's head raised, looking up towards Gravitas. "I can feel your pain without even trying. It's a raw wound inside you ... like Garth's. Neither of you could stop them from dying." The shadows moved again, ringing her protectively. "I will not become like you. Too much pain, from caring too much. Lashing out because you are injured inside. It's ... easier .. not to care at all."
