The Glitch

The Glitch is a Play-by-Post Role Playing Game Universe created by Allen "Dark Silver" Thibodaux and run primarily by him on the LibriumArcana.com Message Boards. The name of the series is in reference to Video Game and Technology term, and the Primary Antagonistic Deity-figure of the series. The current chronology of the game has each separate thread as a episodic continuation of the previous, with each new thread becoming a “Chapter” of that “Episode”. As of 2011, there have been five “Episodes” to the Glitch chronology, with Episode Four having three Chapters as it followed the players progression through the plots of the Glitch. The game contains many references to popular culture from real life, such as the Encom Corporation from Tron

History

The original game thread was created in the late 1990's early 2000's on the Utopia Role Play forum. The original version of the storyline had players taking the role of various video game characters who were drawn from their respective “universes” and deposited on a composite world.

Premise

In the early series of games, players would chose a existing video game character and play the character as it found itself entwined in the machinations of the titular Glitch and it's cadre of allied video-game characters. Such was the premise that traditional enemies in their respective universes could find themselves allied either for, or against the Glitch, while some characters went against their accustomed role to become either heroes or villains.

As the overall story line progressed, players took control of human characters who were unwittingly drawn into the conflict and into direct opposition against the Glitch and it's forces. In the Glitch IV, players were tasked for the first time with creation of their own unique unique characters within the framework of the game's unique video game. These characters were eventually brought into the Digital Universe through the machinations of the Glitch's forces, and obtained unique powers and abilities through the process known as Ascension becoming known as the Ascended.

The Two Universes

Since it's inception, The Glitch has have placed a importance on two separate, but connected dimensions, Earth and the Game-verse. Over time, the Digi-verse has become aware of the Earth and the unique way in which that world interacts with the Game-verse as a whole.

Earth

Earth in The Glitch shares many similarities with the actual Earth until the year 2008. In that year, the payload of a vastly widespread and highly advanced computer virus known as The Scourge delivered it's payload and effected massive changes in the computing and technology sectors. After this point, the future history of the Glitch Earth draws out differently, detailed in the Glitch Earth Timeline..

The vast majority of the populace of Earth have no knowledge of the Game-verse, and live their lives as humans are want to do in real life - go to work/school, eat, sleep, seek out entertainment, etc etc.

Game-verse

The Game-verse is a realm created unwittingly by humanity as they developed their computing technology and begun the creation of Video Games. Every video game ever created by humans have a counterpart “World” within the Game-verse, populated with the beings found within the game - though the worlds tend to be far more developed than the limited scope video games allow us to see. Until the events of the first Glitch War (events of the original The Glitch game), each Game World was seperate, with only a handful of beings known the nature of the Game-verse and how to transverse to those various worlds. Due to the actions of the Glitch, these barriers have since broken down, and the worlds had begun to mingle with each other. By the events of Glitch V: Taste of Fear multiple Humans have traveled to the Game-verse and have become Ascended.

Non-Player Characters

See NPC's of the Glitch for listing of important NPC's.
