For the record, I like the idea of Hornet, and hes' got the Empress' Seal of Approval.

See RPG Quotes as to the other reason I like him

Hornet is fine.

The scythe should never be allowed into any game. The whole concept of Decepticon assassins culling the ranks is dubious at best with Starscream not being long dead.

The scythe worked perfectly well in the context of the other game, but as I said, this is not that game, and in this context you are indeed correct that it, and moreover the character itself does not work properly. Therefore, don't worry further about it. I'll confine myself to Hornet, and we'll see where he winds up.

BTW, before anyone starts jumping to conclusions about what happened here...

Ice flew over at top speed, which for that form is a bit over 200mph. I made no attempts to hide this attack on radar or any sort of sensor system. Half the point of that attack was so that he would be noticed as a decepticon and hostile.

Also note that as fast as he's going he didn't even bother to slow down to target anything. All he was doing was what amounted to a flyover to get your attention. And running like hell at top speed some more.

So yes, he'll be tagged and ID'd as a 'con. That was most of the point of that.

The mayday part of the post was erased for the moment and it will be posted in a few minutes further of gametime.

Overshock will be as tall as Devestator, but he won't be as big (7' basketball player versus 7'football player). Still, he'll be able to throw down with the big guy, which is impressive even if it is at a disadvantage.

The scythe will always be ridiculous. It's far worse than a General Products Hull, which originated the idea of single molecule (Niven wasn't stupid enough to claim single atom, he knew that all high mass atoms have tiny half lives) material

1) It wasn't indestructible. It was tough and marketed as indestructible, but wasn't.

2) From a vastly more powerful universe. A Known Space ship could take out Unicron.

3) It had a separate power source to reinforce the molecular bonds, which is what made GP hulls so tough. In other words, it had a reinforcing force field with a significant energy cost.

4) Indestructible anything is ludicrous, even more ludicrous in a PC's hand. The only way it doesn't immediately fuck the game is if it's Star Trek miracle, one episode only, unduplicatable technology, which is silly.

This is really not important given that the character is no longer here, but the scythe was in no way rediculous in the context of the game it was designed for. You're just gonna have to take my word (or DS' or B4's I suppose, as they ran the game) for it that, while the physics were no doubt rediculous in the extreme, the practical power of the scythe was no different than that of an energy sword or axe, of which there were dozens liberally scattered about. We were less concerned about the actual physics behind it (I invented the mono-molecular thing after the fact) than we were about the practical use of the weapon itself.

However, again, it's not acceptable for this game, and thus it doesn't exist here. No harm, no foul.

Back to the subject at hand...

Hornet is slightly less than ten feet tall (good guess!), and proportioned to match, with an extemely lightweight construction that gives him his flight capacity (weightwise that is). The reason he has no armor is that he's rather densely-built for a bot his size, largely as a result of having to cram all or most of the systems that a normal Transformer has into a frame barely a third normal size. Almost every piece of him is made of lighter weight (and thus more fragile) materials, up to and including his actual frame, chasis, and metalic skin. Any of you, even Crimson, could dent him with a sufficiently tight hug, and most of you big guys could crush him like a tin can simply by stepping on him.

Please try not to :)

The scythe is unacceptable. Your entire defence of it consists of "I in no way considered the ramifications of its existence and the technology to create it. I just wanted to create a cool weapon and in no way considered the implications of the existence of such materials and technology."

Which makes it a bad call by the player and the GM to allow it. That you only used it as a weapon (although you mentioned in this write up using it as a shield) makes it merely an error rather than rabid munchkin syndrome.

considering I was the GM, and considering the amount of firepower being thrown about at times in that game...it didn't make much of a difference.

At anyrate, the issue with Reaper is dropped, the scythe is a non-factor at the moment, and the NPC rewrite of Reaper will include a more sensible version of it.

Forgive me, but it is not your call to make as to whether or not an item generated for a game you had no part in is or is not acceptable within that game's context. Quite clearly, based on the fact that the game ran for years without a hitch or protest, despite the presence of the scythe itself, it was entirely acceptable. I did in fact consider all implications of the technology in question, and there was indeed a rationale for why armor was never crafted from it, but to go into the technical aspects of such a thing would either require pages of boring explanation, or would require you to be intimately familiar with what happened in that game itself. I am not willing to undertake the former, and the latter is simply not the case, so rather than continuing to speculate on what you believe was or was not a good call in a game you did not participate in, let us redirect our attention to this game here, which is the important point, rather than the previous game on another website, which is not.

It is entirely within my abilities to determine if an item is inappropriate and I have done so. I am quite capable of determining what is a good decision for a player or a game master to make. I have done so and been quite clear in my opinion and in my opinion of the rationalizations to make such items "one off miracle tech" nor by claims of "special knowledge by the means of convoluted rationales in game.

You presume much by telling me I am not entitled to my opinion. I will not be silenced by you.

You have no argument other than "you weren't there".

I am not impressed. If you want to defend that scythe as an appropriate item, present an argument. Your whole argument consists of "this highly abusable piece of technology that I wanked up wasn't abused in game so it must be fine." I have already given plenty of reasons why it is not. You have rebutted none of them.

You want this to end, stop defending that piece of shit scythe.

Damn you Autobots, you're suppose to attack the weaker Decepticon. He's bait for an obvious ambush! Really! "He's not with me!" That's what the bait would say of course! Really now, I give you all an excuse to kill an easily defeatable Decepticon(assuming 6v1 odds with one combiner in the mix to be easy) and you don't even rise to the occassion. This is NOT how it's suppose to go! It doesn't make it as good for my plan, damnit. ><

[instigation]
Come on you silly little autobrats! Grow some ball bearings! To the pits with Prime and his rights for sentient creatures. They're trying to kill you and do kill you, the least you could do is avenge all your fallen comrades by taking a small piece back. An armored piece crafted from the backplate of this poor con. Look how helpless he is, he lies to you at every turn so that you would spare his miserable life! You know you all want to kill the 'con. That's what he's there for. Make yourselves better so you can brag to the others that you slew the powerful bad guy. It'll give you guys some ego and confidence. But first you have to grow those ballbearings! Go on guys, I know you can do it. Shoot the con. Shoot the con. Shoot the con. Now go, my botlings, make me proud!
[/instigation]

Now then...

Cyncat (if that's the appropriate contraction), I'm not getting into this. Not with you. Not here. You are incapable of holding a civil tongue in your head when you address me, and I have no interest in being sworn at for no reason. If I were to enter this game and declare that your character was unacceptable because I was the ultimate arbiter of all that is Transformers, then I would expect to be laughed off the forum.

You had a chance to discuss this rationally with me in the chatroom DS set up, but you chose instead to swear at me and storm off in a huff (if you simply had a connection problem, then I apologize, but that's what it looked like to me). You continue to abuse me with declarations that I am a "fucker" and a "piece of shit", even though I asked others to please dissuade you from behaving in such a fashion, and I know that they did. Six times, I have asked if we can perhaps discuss something pertinent to this game. Six times, you have refused. If you are genuinely interested, and want to talk about this in private, I am more than happy to provide whatever level of explanation you want, but I refuse to waste everyone else's time here with more useless blather about a subject that has absolutely no bearing on this game.

And that is the last word I have to say on the subject.

NOW THEN....

Since there appear to have been no objections to Hornet, I will now, with DS' permission, proceed to the IC thread and begin to post. If anyone has any objections to either said post or to the character of HORNET, I would deeply love to hear about them.

ZOMG! It's Hornet, the allpowerful Infinite Improbability Drive. He above all others is way to powerful for any game. The bot is unkillable, unstoppable and undeniably 3vil.

Or not. *shrugs* I had no objections...

Hornet has been described as the fulfillment of Murphy's Law.

Anything that can go wrong will go wrong, and Hornet will more often than not be the reason.

There's an amusing thought that Nitram came up with...

Hornet only reachs Overload and ShellShock's knee servos. He's a toy to them.

Crimson, however, reaches their crotchplates.

Yes, he went there.

Havoc, I had to leave. DS started that conversations when I was already pushing the envelope on how long I had before I could go. I didn't storm away, I told everyone I was leaving as I closed the chat windows. If I missed yours (I had half a dozen up at the time) I'm sorry.

I never claimed to be the ultimate authority on Transformers, that's your words. I had enough information to form an opinion and did so.

If you disliked my character and actually gave reasons for them, as I gave reasons for why your scythe was horrible, I would listen. I wouldn't tell you you had no right to an opinion, especially since I would have listen enough information to form an opinion on a tech spec.

There are no appropriate abbreviations for the name. There are two of them, one is three letters long, they aren't so hard to type.

No one once brought up language and I stopped discussing the scythe the moment you stopped defending it.

All's well then, I'm sorry I mistook your haste for something else. From where I was sitting it looked like you had stormed off in anger. And I only used the abbreviation because it was what others appeared to be using.

Hate to destroy that er... lovely... image but if Hornet only comes up to Overload's knee, and Hornet also comes up to Crimson's chest (roughly), then Crimson probably only reaches Overload's mid-thigh or so.

... god, I need to get that image out of my head right now.
