"What do you know about the ward they shut down?" Mike asked, pushing the paper towards the other man.

"Nothing." Just a touch too fast.

Ace caught the paper and read it.

"I heard about this, some inner memo I didn't give a shit about..." Ace finshed the memo,"I see where you're going with this.... Fuck, I'm just lucky they havn't broken out and got me in my isolation cell."

"I have to admit, I'm very specialised, I dealt with surgery and nothing else, I'm up to speed on stabilising and long term care but its been months since I last went into the wards."

"Well, as much as I enjoy chatting while we're sitting on a ward-full of hungry Zombies, I think we should get going." Mike said, levering himself to his feet and suddenly looking much older than he was.

He looked at Ace a moment longer, his expression still outwardly friendly, but his eyes were cold as he measured the other man's sincerity.

If he was bullshitting about not being part of the coverup, well, there was no law around to stop a little on-the-spot retribution, after all.

But... Petro was a pretty good poker player, and he had a feeling that Ace was the sort who always gave away his bluffs.

"Strength in numbers," he finally said. "You want to come with?"

"I'll tag along." Mike said seemingly easily. "You'd better rustle the others up, Petro. I'm not that good as a runner at the moment. Oh, could you take these for me?" He said, handing the sheath of papers to the older man. On them, he'd quickly scribbled Trust me with his ballpoint pen.

Petro smiled and nodded. "Sounds good to me," he said, levering himself off the desk. He plopped the axe over his shoulder and wandered off whistling, dufflebag ready for further loading.

Ace led along for a good 10 minutes, till they reached a large extreamly secured door, Ace moved forward and touched a series of buttons, and the doors opened.

"Welcome, to my cozy home."

"Nice." Mike said appreciatively, leaning heavily on his improvised cane. They were in a massive, sterile, fully equipped survival shelter packed with all the necessities- Food, water, sterilisers, boilers, First Aid Kits- the only thing that wasn't represented in the room were weapons.

"Maybe I should've gone into trauma surgery after all." He commented, wheeling a trolley over to one of the stacks of equipment and piling it high.

"I have acess everywhere, got that for myself a few years back, very usful, of course, not that the hospital knew but it paid off."

"I am surprised, though, that you didn't pay any attention to the memo." He mused. "I mean, closing a ward off doesn't happen every day."

Ace gathered some of his own tools, carrying what he could and snagged a few little more obscure tools.

"What did you do before the plague?"

"Made the plague." Mike answered shortly. "Little did we know." He paused in his stacking and gripped the cart tightly. "I don't know why the others keep me around." He admitted.

Ace dropped the stack of tools. "You what? You lousy good for nothing mother fucking Necromencer!" With that Ace launched himself at Mike, sending both tumbling. Ace grabbed him by the shoulders,"I had it made, I was head of surgery, I had the easy life. Why the fuck are you still alive?!"

Ace was pummling him, hitting him with all his strength untill he had none left. "You...You...." He rolled off, shaking.

"I can't belive it, I'm next to the most wanted man in the city."

Ace slowly twisted so he was sitting, breathing heavily. "I can't do it, every time I'm going to look at you from now I'm going to see the person who ruined my life..."

Mike reached up and fingered his split lip. "There seems to be a misapprehension." He said calmly. "I was just a low-level functionary. Carried the test tubes around and so forth. So if you want to put a face to the menace, you'll have to go somewhere else." He awkwardly flopped onto his stomach and attempted to get back to his feet.

Luckily for Ace's continued existance, most of the blows had been directed against Mike's chest and thus were not obvious. Mike cleaned his lip as best he could, and ten or so minutes later they made their way to the group.

"Hey, folks." Mike said calmly, pushing the cart with some difficulty.
