Looks like there's no "Overworld" anymore, and all the characters are...real. I'm cautiously impressed.

Realism can be a great thing and in some cases and improve a game, movie or novel.
Not in this case.
This is pretty much tossing the whole idea of mortal kombat and keeping some character names to make money off of brand loyalty. I mean really? We're taking something that was epic and grand in scale with heroes and villians and turning it into a tawdry little underground death match in a single city? You might as well just made a new game with a different name.
Course the realism is a bit flawed.
Serial Killers and Assassins don't do fucking fights to start with. Seriously.
Sorry Rhoenix but I gotta disagree. Pass on this. Pass hard and fast.

I have to concur with Frigid here. It's a great idea, especially to play off of brand loyalty and all...but really they've turned it into some cross between fight club and blood sport.

You remember what sucked about both Street Fighter movies and the Doom movie? They ignored the story set up in the movies and focused on different characters, which they changed drastically to the point where the only recognizable portion of them was their name. I am seeing the exact same thing here.
Bonus points for looking like it's going to be rated R though.
