This idea began with Havoc and I trading Youtube music clips back and forth, as both of us like to use music to help set an overall mood when writing. All of these songs are instrumentals; no vocals allowed here.

So, on the off-chance this might help anyone else, here are links to each of the songs I've found (and like), and the overall mood I classify each song under for writing - your mileage may vary.

Metroid Metal: Phendrana Drifts (journey / exploration / adventure)
Metroid Metal: Lower Norfair (lonely battle / alone in the dark and unafraid)
Metroid Metal: Brinstar (determined conflict / beautiful war)
Two Steps From Hell: Black Blade (inevitable, unavoidable conflict)
Two Steps From Hell: Freefall (shock to the system / aerial battle)
Two Steps From Hell: Gravitation (watching the world be torn apart)
X-Ray Dog: Final Hour (righteous indignation / proceed to conflict)
X-Ray Dog: Dangerous Encounter (dramatic battle / fight for growth)
X-Ray Dog: Grey Skies (cold determination / marching on even through hell)
X-Ray Dog: Screaming Souls (dramatic confrontation)
Brand X Music: Extinction (bringing down the hammer with a smile)
Brand X Music: System Failure (plots thicken / dreaded conclusion)
Brand X Music: Last Days (we lost the battle, but we will win the war)
Brand X Music: King Drum (final confrontation)
Crystal Method: Weapons of Mass Distortion (bloody battle / shades of grey)
Quake II Soundtrack: Descent into Cerberon (bringing down the hammer with a smile, part 2)
Nine Inch Nails: Just Like You Imagined (coalesce / realization through conflict / awakening)
Rob Dougan: Clubbed to Death (dramatic tension)
Rob Dougan: Clubbed to Death 2 (dramatic tension converted)
Rob Dougan: Chateau (against all odds)
Lux Aeterna (Rock Mix) (watch the villain at work)
