Happy New Year for 2014, everyone. May it be a better year than the recent years we've seen.

2013, all things considered, was a fairly decent year for me.
Hoping that everyone has a kick-ass 2014.

It has been many years since I last had anything to look forward about a new year, or anything to celebrate about the old. In a way this one is no different. I have nothing to celebrate about 2013, and nothing to look forward in 2014. That is not to say that there is nothing of note about 2014, quite the opposite, I'm going back to school. The problem is that I can't say I'm looking forward to that at all, because it's going to suck.
It's a Sisyphean task that promises little in the way of reward or satisfaction for a very long time. It won't be easy, it won't be fun, I have no faith that I can handle it, and worst of all I don't even want to try. I'm only doing it because I don't have a real choice in the matter. All the other options are even more loathsome and terrifying. This may seem a little melodramatic for taking 7 credit-hours at the bleeding community college, and maybe it is, but I'm not exactly the functional well adjusted type.
On the plus side, the last time I undertook a course of action because I had no other choice was also the last year I felt was worth living through. Maybe by the time 2015 rolls around, I'll remember what it feels like.

NYE, I got a tattoo
Jan 1st, a very good friend died.
Jan 2nd, LadyJules' mother went in the hospital.
Jan 3rd, multiple office machinery broke down
Jan 4th, my friend's wake.
Monday and Tuesday will be a blast of artic cold and snow, with the lowest temps I've seen in 30yrs.
This does NOT sound like a good year.
