Top social conservative Bryan Fischer is outraged that "President Obama wants to give the entire land mass of the United States of America back to the Indians. He wants Indian tribes to be our new overlords."

Fischer is the Director of Issues Analysis for the Christian conservative group the American Family Association, and appeared alongside top Republicans at this year's Values Voter conference.

Fischer, who also wants to get rid of the "curse" that is the grizzly bear, writes on his blog: "President Obama likes the 'U.N. Declaration on Rights of Indigenous Peoples.' He says it can 'help reaffirm the principles that should guide our future.'" Fischer points to Article 26, which says that "Indigenous peoples have the right to the lands, territories and resources which they have traditionally owned, occupied or otherwise used or acquired," and "states shall give legal recognition and protection to these lands, territories and resources."

He continues:

I see no reason why the president, after he leaves office, can't submit himself to the authority of any Indian tribe he wants to. Perhaps he figures that, as an adopted Crow Indian, he will be the new chief over this revived Indian empire.

But for the other 312 million of us, I think we'll settle for our constitutional "We the people" form of government, thank you very much.

In all seriousness where is he getting this from? I can't imagine Obama really wanting to put the Tribal Counsels into political power nor can I imagine anyone wanting to deal with the mess. Besides white guys like me with tribal memberships, most of the population of North America is not even remotely native, what would you do with them? Where would they go? How could such a small group even begin to defend, manage and administrative such a large territory? It is silliness piled upon ridiculousness. Can they focus on real issues for just 3 damn minutes?

Maybe I'm overthinking things here, but aren't 'indigeneous' and 'acquired' kinda mutually exclusive? I mean if they're indigeneous to the territory they'd be there already and would need to acquire it in the first place.

Also, what doestraditionally mean? For how long do those people need to have been there for it to be traditional?
