When I glossed over this line I thought you wrote "fucking Unicorn" and I was like "aw yeah Twilight Sparkle gonna wreck some shit in D.C." because she totally could and it would be awesome.frigidmagi wrote:At this point I wouldn't be surprised if fucking Unicron showed up on the 1st and brought the damn deathstar with him!
But I digress.
Someone remind me again why our political system is focused like a laser on the debt when long-term interest rates on treasuries are incredibly low, demand is down, and unemployment on the rise?
Also, the balanced budget amendment is quite possibly the worst idea since "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." Imagine a recession but one in which the federal government is forced to cut unemployment benefits, student loans/grants, and infrastructure spending at a time when those things are needed most.

Can you blame him? I can't. Though I don't feel anger as much as deep sadness. :sad:Stofsk wrote:I'm sorry dude. I feel angry about it too but it sounds like your feelings are several orders of magnitude higher than mine, plus feelings of betrayal.

It's probably because it is a simple and easy thing to understand, and simple and easy talking points are an easy sell. For these guys, it's a win-win. If they manage to force a balanced budget amendment, they get to cut social security, unemployment benefits and infrastructure spending. If they don't, they can force a default, or at east make the economy jittery and then blame Obama either way. At least, that's what I think they're thinking. What I want to know is why the White House isn't pointing these things out more. Are they really that bad at PR? What happened to the political machine that got Obama elected?
