#1 I need advice about buying a laptop. (Not anymore!)

Post by Soontir948 »

Ok, I will be entering college soon and I have yet bought myself a laptop to use. There are many characteristics I need and I hope you can direct me to one that is perhaps average. I don't need a gamer laptop however possible it can be and I don't need a sore loser either. I have looked at several and I cannot come to a decision.

Only because the most important factor that I want to know is durability.

I understand the Thinkpad was suppose to be good at that, but is it still after being transfer to a new company?

I don't know anything about other laptops except perhaps the Dell Inspiron, so your input would be a big help.

I really appreciate anyone taking their time in this.

I'm not a big expert on laptop, but look for the following.

Battery Life.
Pentium M(assumming your not going for a Powerbook)
Non intergrated graphics.

Also, if possible, go and actully try them out(if your buying from something that has a brick store), feel the keys.

Most laptop keyboards for me are too flimsy.

I plan on going to Best Buy today to check what they have. I don't mind any keyboard I come across usually. The keyboard I am typing on right now is a messed.

I was dismally searching SD.net's forum for any advice (through proxyweb  ) and found someone had bought a Hewlett Packard which hardware wasn't that bad at all. I wouldn't mind getting it but I can't exactly ask the person how durable it is. Arggg, just ranting about it, that's all.

Soontir, try checking out Averatec Laptops. They are usually decently priced, powerful, and sturdy as all hell.

They been out for ages, but they used to build the 2-3k USD notebooks, but decided to start making more affordable ones.

My GF bought one, and she loves it. only paid about 800 USD for it to.

Thanks, from the looks of them, they're much cheaper than the other ones I have seen.
