How deep was the Missouri River in the late 19th Century?

#1 How deep was the Missouri River in the late 19th Century?

This is an honest question, I've been trying to figure out how deep it generally went between Great Falls and Bismarck. Among other things I need to know if a boat with a draft of 2.5 feet is too deep, especially during the dry season.
