Would he even actually fit? Well's aren't usually too large and Eight is pretty freaking big.

Besides, if he can there is a way to get him to do it. He's a mercenary first, if you pay him to he will forget that he hates menial labor for the sake of fleshbags, and that this is a dead fleshbag who earlier embarrassed him.

I'll say that the hole is just big enough that you can squeeze your way down. And if someone illuminates the well, you might discover that there may very well be something worthwhile down there.

(HINT: You've done enough work to earn way more of a reward than what Ashvale is paying you *wink**wink*)

Let's just say that things are about to get interesting. I will however note that its a pity none of you really picked up on the clues I was trying to drop way back at the start of this game. The PCs always focus on the wrong details, leaving the DM scratching his head and wondering if he's saying the wrong things while still not trying to be too obvious.

Just enough for something too. I like maximized skills because you can do all sorts of neat stuff with them.

Well... I might have gyped you a little Nitram, but the thing wasn't a statue, it was a pillar right up to the point where it smacked you with its bastard sword, and its a free action to change its form so you really wouldn't have had time to really react.

Let's see here... Charon, you roll a d20, everyone who might be holding the rope make a strength check, either as the main holder (I would presume Fehl) or as an aid another check to assist the main holder.

And I can see Rogue knows what we're fighting. My hope is that by the time this campaign is over you'll all be afraid of your own shadows.

Here's a hint. It should probably be everyone left up top who should hold the rope. Eight weighs a LOT.

Well fuck...

I was figuring everyone would hold the rope, just only one person can be the main holder.

And... hmm... yeah, roll me another one there Charon and I'll wait for everyone else to get their rolls in. Hopefully this doesn't become a gong show.

Alright, anything else is icing on the cake with regards to the check at this point since Fehl did so well.

Here's what happened. Eight screwed up descending the tight well and fell a good twenty feet before he wedged into the soft soil walls, his descent in part arrested by those holding the rope (be glad you passed the strength check or I would have then called for a reflex check to let go before getting hauled into the hole along with Eight).

Good news: Eight isn't harmed. Bad news: He's blocking the only way in or out to the battle with the construct.

Eight, make an Escape Artist check, DC 10, to get yourself unstuck.

Alrighty then, you're unstuck, but you've just used up another round to do so. Incidentally, your Escape Artist modifier is -3, not +2 because you forgot to include your armour check penalty (its -4 normally, but I figured you put your shield away first), but your roll was still good enough to get free. You can climb down more carefully the rest of the way, but it will take you four rounds unless you want to try and go fast again.

Well, if you count the fall, the digging yourself out, and then the slow climb down, then yeah, six rounds all together, not counting the final drop into the chamber. And you're blocking the way down the entire way.

Volemack may be in a spot of trouble, although his superior speed means he can simply retreat if he wishes.

Well, the priest was useless in holding the rope, but fortunately the paladin and the duskblade were already strong enough. Now, Volemack can either continue his attack run, or retreat and wait for reinforcements to arrive. It's his fight and he has the mobility advantage here.

Ahem... dons boots of DM asskicking once more. I reiterate, its Volemack's go with this one. We're all waiting on you Nitram. Now, I can understand if you're busy, but a little message to say why might be a nice courtesy.
