What is it with my PC's and landing headfirst because they leap at people who they then pass through?

My ExaltedMu* PC did the same when fighting a major demon.

The allip dies when you hit it. Descibe hitting it, but I'll handle the end for it.

You're forgetting the ghost, you know, the one you ran away from, is still out there, and you're still vulnerable to its frightening cry. Also, this plot goes deeper still.

Pfft. We were paid to see what happened to the town. We have, now we can get paid after we torch the town to the ground.

I'm wondering about the cloaked figure that was telling the priest to jump.

We haven't found out what happened. Give Bartel ten minutes plus some rounds, though, and we will.

What, casting a spell? It gets the corpse to answer questions, and if the corpse is undead and pretending to be a corpse, then the spell won't work because it wouldn't be a valid target.

Besides, this is a classic of the genre. The group must protect the caster while he completes the ritual. It's like a rite of passage.

Oh I wasn't saying that the corpses won't be valid targets. I'm saying I'm not thinking you're gonna get much more than:

Ah yes, the eternal dilemma: target the guy who might know something but there's a higher risk of not getting anything at all, or target someone who will have known a little but probably won't be able to tell you much that is substansive. IE: high risk and high reward vs. low risk and low reward

Why would there be a higher risk of not getting anything? Is his corpse mangled or something?

To make an allip you need to drive someone insane and then have them kill themselves. There's a chance the corpse's memories are mangled, or at least that was the argument Charon was making.

I was arguing that frankly, most of the corpses we're going to find in here aren't gonna give us much info because they probably underwent some similar pain and torture that would drive them batshit.

That shouldn't matter. The spell doesn't contact the soul, which has moved on; it simply gets answers to questions based on the physical imprint left in the corpse. The body isn't going to just cry out in pain because it's no longer experiencing any; even if it was, it would be incapable because the spell only permits it to answer the questions, not move or otherwise vocalize.

Those of you with a head full of confusing images and memories, this might be a good time to perhaps comment on what you think you've learned through the mad insight of contact with the allip.

Ehhhh... looks like its time to apply the Boot of DMing (an epic level artefact) and remind you all to post. I was figuring Bartel would have started casting his spell by now (although he might want to step outside to do that) or for someone who was touched by the allip to comment.
