To shave or not to shave.

#1 To shave or not to shave.
Alright, I've had facial hair for about two years now, started with mutton chops for about a year, and then moved to a full beard for a year. Now I'm considering shaving it all off and being clean shaven again. So I want your opinions.
That is me with the beard, there are old pictures of me without the beard floating around somewhere... ah ha!
Pretty damn old pictures (four years) but they're an idea of what I used to look like.
Now...
What'd ya think?

Oh.. Ahem.. Umm...
The no-beard makes you look 16-18, hon. With beard you look 25-30.
Which one do you want girls to think of you as?

I agree with Tev. You look more mature with the beard. As long as it's kept trimed, I like it.
There is a really good chance that I am seriously fucked up. But don't worry....I like me that way.

His ability to actually grow a beard. All I can manage is to look really badly shaved no matter HOW long I let it grow.
It's not that I WANT a beard, mind you, but as long as I have to shave I want to look like I AM growing one when I DON'T.
Did that make any sense?

A simple 'Nope' would have sufficed you know.

Gah!!! The red eye burnz us!
I find it difficult to remove my bias here. On the one hand the vast majority of the time I've spent around you was when you were clean shaven and that is what I am used to. On the other hand you might look younger than maybe you want to if you shave.
As a suggestion I say shave and see if you like it. If you do not like it then you loose relatively little time getting the beard back--it's not like you have a decade of growth there.
As a further suggestion I say avoid the mutton chops. They might be awesome, and I'll always respect awesome, but they don't really look very good.

I don't think Charon's beard is dense enough for this to look good on him.

From my cursory understanding of fashion, beards aren't really 'in' right now, and they haven't been since the 70s with only a brief resurgence during the era of grunge.

I don't grow a beard until winter, usually. And I could give a shit less if they're "in fashion" or not, I just like having a beard when it's not too hot.

Now now, let's not anger the gods of the Immutable Laws of Fashion. They are fickle, and can close access to the gloriously fabulous cities of Milan and SoHo if sufficiently irritated.

I have one that ends the story though.
The 80's fashion sense.

Do not speak ill of MacGuyver mullets and cream-colored jackets. The 80s were awesome.

Also, without the glorious anklewarmer, how shall teenage girls insulate their ankles during the winter months? Strong, flexible ankles are the key to defeating the communist menace.

But the fashion is a horribly glorious pox upon humanity that refuses to be forgotten.

As someone who lived in those glorious times and did the Material Girl thing, 80s fashion was tasteless, wild, and loud. And we loved it that way, parachute-pants, bandanna wraps and all.

That's funny, I've never seen any evidence of beards being out of fashion at the hardware store I work at. Oh wait. Hardware store. Can you say 'All Rednecks All The Time'? Of course everyone has a beard!
