"Rather forceful way of getting someone together," Gunnar thought. Nevertheless, he began exploring the town until the hour of the late watch, ignoring the gasps and stares of the townsfolk, and then arrived at the Laughing Chimpanzee Inn shortly before eight strokes had past. He then looked for someone who might have sent such a scroll.

Thisslewit was growing bored. This, as many people knew, was a dangerous thing. A bored kender was a kender very likely to get into or start some sort of mischief, mayham or riot. Likewise, it was not uncommon for kender to gather together in small groups. This often resulted in many pouches being dumped out and many many objects examined and traded, maps shown, copied, given, taken, and many many kendertales of adventure and excitement. In short, probably a lot of trouble for anyone who wasn't a kender.

Thisslewit was eagerly examining the contents of his own pouch as well as that of a few other kender as they traded and gabbed when one of them pointed out a shiny medallion and carefully wrapped scroll that looked rather new. Thisslewit, never having seen these before, but assumign they were his as they were in his pouch eagerly grabbed them up to examine them. Reading the writing on the scroll he shot up with a start. It was almost time for the meeting. And whatever meeting he was suppose to be at according to this scroll must be rather important or else he wouldn't have it.

He cheerfully gathered up his possessions into his pouches which now contained items both old and new and raced off to find this Inn.
[random common rolls for new stuff in the pouch if the DM's keeping track: yellow feather, small silver bell missing the clapper, small red glass bead, vallenwood leaf, and a clothespin.]

He was almost late when he burst through the door of the Inn, medallion clutched tightly in one hand, the missive in the other and his topknot swaying just as wildly as his backpack and pouches on his garishly colored clothes.
"I'm here I'm here! Sorry I'm late I got mixed up at another Inn and then this large guard tried to tell me I was stealing somewhen when I clearly wasn't and then I had to duck down an alley and afterwards I climbed up and over this really neat wall that if you want to know where it is I'll be happy to show you it was all red and black and yellow and bricky and parts of it were crumbling and someone really should report that to a building inspection. Speaking of which do any of you happen to know who the building inspector in this area is as I want to do my civic duty and notify him of a potentially unsafe wall. I mean I could have accidently hurt myself trying to crawl over it but overall it was really quite fun!"

Kage thanks the page and ponders the message that he received. Hmm, this could be interesting. I haven't had any solid work in quite awhile. I'll check it out. Making his way to the inn described in the message, Kage pays for a room and settles in, waiting for the specified hour to arrive.

Noting the sudden arrival of the Kender, Gunnar wasn't sure what to think. Gunnar saw the missive in one of the Kender's hands, and following the newcomer's rather breathless introduction, Gunnar was now fairly certain this was another who'd had the same sort of message he had.

Well, that was fine. Kender were generally good people, and made good friends - if you weren't too attached to anything that a Kender might think looks "shiny."

For now, he simply sat cross-legged in one of the chairs toward the back, with the wall at his back and rest of the Inn open to his view. He had been taught to have the patience of worlds, and he would exercise it now.

Entering into the tavern just a few seconds after the kender finishes his speech was a large Solamnic Knight. The towering human took a seat followed closely by three large bodyguards. "If you have received my message please do bring yourself to my table."

<B4, roll a sleight of hand check when you approach>

Upon all of your approach he begins a small pontification, "I am a lord of these realms and I have been charged with bringing about a major downfall for the Dragonarmies. I am to send you three chosen ones to the depths of the southern half of the continent as to bring forth the Scrolls of Beguiling. Hopefully the power containted within will hold back the Dragonarmies' assault."

He begins to reach for a scrollcase on his hip and brings forth a large map of Krynn, "Somewhere in this area," pointing to a largely unpopulated area known as the Plains of Dust, "is where you are to go. The city of Zeriak is your destination. I hope you well and while here in the city of Solamnus please do wear those medallions, as they will protect you while here. Introduce yourselves and get aquainted. You have a long journey ahead of you."

Standing with his guardsmen the Knight leaves the tavern and you are left to your own devices in a mostly empty tavern.

This day just grew more and more peculiar. However, that wouldn't shake his calm. He covered his left fist with his right open hand, and bowed to the Kender and the Half-Elf - not too low, as he minded his horns - and speaking as he rose in a rich, bass voice. "I am Gunnar Jashet, a student of the monastery far to the north. Are you both to be my companions on this journey?"

Thisslewit, following the knights example of their stiff upper lips and proud military bearing while marching across the tavern, followed suit. Or tried to. Looking rather ridiculous marching directly behind the Solmanic knights, nearly goose-stepping his way around, he made it to the table.

Sleight of Hand

Climbing up into one of the seats and standing tall-ly upon it he gazed down at the map, entranced by its detail. He was rather quiet during the 'briefing,' an unusual thing for kenders in general. This was, however, due to his studying of the map. He had gone so far as to pull out a piece of paper and a small piece of charcoal to begin doing his own copy of the map. He almost missed it when the knight left and cheerfully waved an enthusiastic goodbye.
"Goodbye, Mr knight!"

After digesting all this information for a moment, Kage looks around the table. A kender, a minotaur, and a half-elf. Quite the group. "It would appear so." Standing up and giving a bow of his own, Kage introduces himself. "I am Kage Korun, I come from the elven lands far to the west." Straightening up, Kage addresses the kender. "And who might you be, young kender?"

Thisslewit turned excitedly to the other people at the table.
"Hi," he exclaimed. "I'm Thisslewit Heavypouches! I'm a kender, but I'm sure you already figured that out. I'm really not sure what I'm doing here but I was sitting there trading things with some other kenders a little while ago and one of them pointed out this scroll that said to come here along with this medallion which was kind of weird because I don't remember ever getting them but I'm sure I must have gotten them because they were in my pouch and while it's sometimes unusual for me to find things that I don't ever remember getting in my pouch this was one of those things that I was fairly certain I would have remembered but I don't so I think I must be under the spell of a wizard or something which would be really interesting if only I could remember what it is that the wizard made me forget which I obviously can't because the wizard made me forget which just confuses me a bit and makes my head hurt. Speaking of head hurting when I showed up here after I flew off a tree and teleported I got this really weird vision in my head that made it hurt because some guy kept saying a word over and over and over again and it was really eerie and a bit interesting but then it got kinda boring cause it was really repetative and then there were the guards that started hassling me at the gates like they always do trying to call me a thief which is really insulting as I've never stolen anything in my life, nor has any other kender and I really wish humans would learn that kenders aren't thieves and quit calling us thieves because it's really insulting and speaking of insulting did you know that the kenders are great at insulting other races? We are, we're great at taunting. For instance one of the guards at the gate who was really insulting I told him that if he went and stuck a bucket on his head someone might actually mistake him for a knight. He got kind of upset at this and started chasing me off and then I came in through the kender gates that the humans keep trying to shut down which is really rude because if they're not going to let us in through the main gates and try to close up our own gates how are we suppose to get into the city which I think is really interesting but gets boring after awhile with all the people constantly trying to chase me around and hurt me and call me a thief."

Gunnar regarded the Kender, Thisslewit, calmly for a moment or two after he finished his rather breathless monologue. He nodded with respect to the Kender before speaking. "I am pleased to meet you, Thisslewit. I also confess I've never met a being before now who can say all that you did without needing to draw breath. Thisslewit, I am both pleased and honored to meet such a being."

With that, he turned expectantly to the hardy-looking half-elf who had also joined them.

"Well then, now that all the introductions have been made. Where do we go from here?" says Kage, addressing the group at large.

Shrugging, an unusual gesture from a minotaur, Gunnar replied after a moment. "Well, it appears our destination is here," he said, pointing to the area the nobleman had pointed toward. "So, given this is a fair distance, perhaps we should provision ourselves."

"A sound plan." Kage replies. Looking around he says "Have either of you been here before? This is my first time here so I don't know where anything is."

Shaking his large head slowly, Gunnar replied in the negative. "No, I have been wandering ever since I completed my training at the monastery far to the north. These lands are not familiar to my eyes."

"Hmm, how about you Thisstlewit? Have you been here before?" Kage asks the kender rather tentatively.

"Hmmm," the kender replied very studiously as he leaned over the table to closely examine the map.
"No, I've never been there but I'm sure I've got a map to there, or at least a better one then that! Hold on a second..."

Thisslewit began to riffle through this pouches to find his maps and then drew them forth. Spreading them out on the table he sorted through them until he found the one he was after.
"See, here it is. That maps no good. It doesn't have any of these mountains here or this river. That map must be bad since this one has all these extra things on it!"

Gunnar's perspective and experience when it comes to dealing with other peoples and cultures was a bit different than others might be. In this case, he studied both maps carefully, and then looked thoughtful as he stood upright again. "They appear to be similar enough to my eyes - why not use both? If one map misses something, the other may have it included."

Kage nods "A sound plan. Now seeing as how we have what looks to be quite a trip ahead of us, I suggest we turn in for the night and set out at first light. Are we all in agreement?" says Kage looking at the kender and minotaur each in turn.

Nodding his great head once again, Gunnar spoke. "I am in agreement. Shall we retire, and meet at this table at first light?"

A bar patron looked through his purse and quickly had found himself short of his bar tab. Looking around quickly he noticed the small kender and pointed at him. "He stole my money." Moving from his seat with two friends, they drew light maces and menaced the young trio. "Hand my money over Kender. Or else you'll feel my mace's wrath"

Turning his head deliberately, Gunnar coldly observed the three men advancing on his new Kender acquaintance.

He had been brought up hating Kender and Human alike, but being banished from his people for pondering too much and not fighting enough cured that. Joining the monastery to learn the ways of stilling the mind helped him view all as equal. However, some made bad choices. Such as these three humans, who were acting dishonorably.

"So your first action upon seeing yourself short the barman's tab is to blame a Kender? You need two armed friends to attack this mighty Kender warrior, who obviously terrifies you and your friends enough to need to attack three on one?"

His eyes hardened. "Unless you have proof of the Kender stealing from you, you should be asking the barkeeper if you can work off your tab."

Freeing his sword from it's sheath, Kage stepped up next to the minotaur, resting the tip of his weapon on the floor as he did so. "I suggest that you take the minotaur's advice." said Kage, a dangerous glint in his eyes.
