Binder is a class from the Tome of Magic supplement; they get their power by binding spirits called vestiges to themselves. Karsus is one of the vestiges described in the book; I assume he means his binder will bind Karsus the most.

This is true. Karsite is also a template-race from the same book, a variant human who loses normal spellcasting and gains involuntary SR. Absorbing spells heals them.Rogue 9 wrote:Binder is a class from the Tome of Magic supplement; they get their power by binding spirits called vestiges to themselves. Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about the Karsites. Okay, that's still acceptable. I'll have to borrow my friend's copy of ToM so I can catch up on the exact mechanics for it, though; I've never played anything from ToM, though I read the book awhile back.

They're +2LA, but frankly some of their add-ons make no sense. Why would they be, for example, sturdier and more charismatic?Rogue 9 wrote:Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about the Karsites. That's an excellent question, really. I don't have an answer for it, but if you want to play one regardless, it seems fair. If you want to houserule some of that out and lower the level adjustment, we can work with that too.
Be aware that while I'll let you play a level-adjusted character at level one, you'll be earning experience as a character of your ECL, so you'll level slower than the other characters. I use the level adjustment buyoff rules, so you can do that if you wish when you reach higher levels, but it won't help you in the short term.

Okay, I've thoroughly studied the adventure and I'm ready to go. Stats will be determined by rolling 5d6 and dropping the lowest two dice six times, arrange as desired. Who's in?

Okay, I'm going to need clarification on what some of this stuff actually does. I'm going to bed now, but I'll need an explanation of Exhaled Barrier and Aspect of Bahamut: Breath Weapon tomorrow. I don't have any of the Races Of books; I presume this is from Races of the Dragon since I don't recognize it from the Draconomicon.

Oh, very clever. When presented with 'Pick Heart, Mind, or Wings' in the Dragonborn racial modifiers, you chose Heart and Wings. Cute. Not subtle, but cute. And what is 'Aspect Of Bahamut'? Better not be the 15th level Dragonfire Adept breath weapon.

Ok. Part of the racial modifiers of the Dragonborn is the ability choose one of three things. These are called Aspects of Bahamut as I read the text, though I dont have it on me and am constructing this character from memory(built him on paper before)
1. A breath weapon. It is a line that does 1d8 damage per 3 HD useable once every 1d4 rounds.
Wings: FLight ability that scales with HD, gliding from 1-6 limited flight from 6-10 and full flight from then on uo
Mind: visual abilities like darkvision
However there is a feat that permits a character to take wings as a set of feats.
Exhaled Barrier permits the use of the breath weapon to create a 10ftx10xft wall that does breath weapon damage.

Except Dragonborn can't take that feat. Not at 3rd. Not at all. Because it's a born-in thing. The only race which can take it at 3rd is Kobolds. Perhaps you should have explained the full situation to Rogue: That you get breath OR wings. You know. Honesty.Comrade Tortoise wrote:Ok. One thing: Dragonborn count as dragons. Waterdeep has this charming little thing called the Dragonward of Ahghairon. Unless you can somehow convince Maaril the Dragon Mage to use his staff to grant you passage into the ward, you're going to be facing a mythal scale antipathy effect.

This type of twinkingg always annoys me.. It breaks rules. There's ways to pull off twinks of absurd calibur by either rules as they're intended or as written, and you get Xanatos Gambit credit for those. But this is just silly.

Well, I had a few vague thoughts about some sort of fighter/mage, but the best I've ever found in my (admittedly un-thorough) look through possible classes was the Arcane Spellsword, from the Tome & Blood book. Do you have any other suggestions? I also ask because I no longer have ready access to any of the books.

I am happy removing the wings, just an idea I ran past rogue having thought he had read through the initial books. Didnt know he had not done so.
The feat must be taken at first level normally, I explained this to him but he was heading to bed when we were chatting and he may not have caught it, he suggested that they be non-functional until third, which suits me fine because it gives me a chance to play with a 3'5" draconic Petri(Land Before Time, original Epic Version) trying to figure out how wings work in haphazard fashion.
But if you folk object and if Rogue did not get my initial intention, I will not press the matter and will happily withdraw the idea, or take said feat at first level, and the Exhaled Barrier at third. Does not bother me either way.

There are dozens of different ways to do a fighter/mage; some are better than others. What did you have in mind?rhoenix wrote:Well, I had a few vague thoughts about some sort of fighter/mage, but the best I've ever found in my (admittedly un-thorough) look through possible classes was the Arcane Spellsword, from the Tome & Blood book. Some of them are the duskblade class (which is a fighter/mage base class right out of the box; from the Player's Handbook 2), the Suel arcanamach (which I reflavor for a Netherese background for campaigns in the Realms; it's a prestige class in Complete Arcane, though you can't enter it until 7th level at minimum), or if you'd rather go with a slightly different flavor I can hand you all kinds of ways to build a paladin/sorcerer. Spellswords are in Complete Warrior for 3.5; there's also the Eldritch Knight prestige class in the Dungeon Master's Guide (which is available free from the System Reference Document; the class may be found here.)
If you have any more questions, ask.

It is also possible to create... nasty... fighter/sorcerer builds that use swift action and touch spells to do a metric fuckton of damage to single targets. But that takes someone like The Silence and I and an excel spreadsheet to pull off....

Ok, CT? Did you even tell Rogue that Dragonborn is a Rite to become Bahumat's Own Child? To become one you had to have done something in your lifetime to impress Bahumat enough for him to give you this blessing, and that you needed to have collected the items for the Rite as well as 100gp to make the 'eggshell' that transforms and rebirths you as Dragonborn?
Shit, this is more of a Prestige Class or Template than a starting base class, so stop BSing Rogue that a 1st level starting character could become a Dragonborn.

This is why I don't like allowing people to use stuff from material I'm not really familiar with. In doing so I am trusting them:
1) To be honest
2) Not to completely fuck it up.
2) is usually the issue.

The more I look at Karsite Binder, the more I realize they're great villains but crappy support. So.
1) I'm thinking either support(Healing/buffing) or support(Skillmonkey/striking). Anyone have plans to take one or the other, or is one or the other despised by everyone and thus I should take?
2) Should I demonstrate, either with my PC or with a sample build, what optimizing with a bit of flavour and obedience to rules is?(Sadly, my favorite tricks are all Kobold ones, because they're tiny, underrated, and awesome).

Well... what roles do we have filled so far?
I was going to be the Tank. That leaves Healer, Blaster/Controller, and Skill-monkey.
CT was going to be the Blaster, before we started tearing the idea apart. Knowing him, he'll still be the Blaster because that's what he likes to play.
