This is just my humble opinion of course but... You think the fact that I am draining the reactor dry, or at least putting such a demand on it that everyone is getting less power would attract the big bad's attention. You know what with the thousand foot column of glowing white energy screaming.

Draining the reactor as we're doing shouldn't just cause brownouts across the facilities, but should trigger the control rods auto-drop, since power won't be evenly flowing to the electromagnets.

Of course, this assumes the reactor is based on real ones and not, say, Greenpeace.

The reactors are based on real ones, more or less, assuming some improvement due to the game's nature(we obviously have nuclear reactors but don't have advanced nanotech or power armor).

I'll deal with it in post shortly, prepping for my sunday game and ended up having to work yesterday so didn't get shit done.

No, it shouldn't happen. The rods dropped. The reaction should have stopped.

On the other hand, thrusting an arm into the reactor to turn the fissile material into inert metal is an appropriately dramatic thing.

I was referring more to the fact that meltdown != kaboom. Even if they were using weapons-grade fissile material, weapons-grade material doesn't stay that way for very long, hence the need for explosions to shove it all together fast enough to reach supercritical mass.
