The Eee PC ($300-500 Sub-Laptop)

The MacBook Air isn't the only tiny laptop on the market. Measuring in at 7 inches, this little beauty is the new apple of my eye. Sure, it has shit specs from the gaming standpoint, but damn if it doesn't do all the basic data and networking stuff I could possibly want. The screen is a little small, but after years of surfing open wifi networks with my PDA, it's a welcome change.

It's small, it's portable, it's tough, and it does the job. The hell with the MacBook Air and it's 2K-3K price point, this looks to be the ultimate work PC for people on the go.

I totally want one for work, cons, and general writing.

With Google making Openoffice web-based, as long as this little manufactured piece of awesome has an internet connection, it would be a workhorse for simply getting work done. I want one.

The specs is fine expect the ridiculously small hard drive (8GB, argh!) ; can you replace the hard drive like you can with normal laptops?

Thats true, for you and me, who don't have net speeds up in the skies, 8GB is kinda small. I can't get away with streaming everything up and down.

Except if we're using external hard drives, although it's kinda inconvenient to have one constantly attached to the unit.

If we can replace the hard drive with ordinary 2.5" hard drive, or even 1.8" hard drive (you can still get 60GB with that one), then EeePC could be a very interesting product --right now I still have to wear around that bulky notebook backpack when I just want to finish those damn reports in Starbuck's. :sad:

For the purposes I use the Eee PC for, I don't NEED a huge hard drive. Spreadsheets, text documents, and even the few PDFs I use are very light on space, so 8Gb is more than enough. It's not a gaming system OR a porn system, it is a work system, pure and simple.
