'Idle conversation with Mr. Toad you were so thoughtful to evesdrop on" the wizard said with a wry smile. "Something to boost the spirits, a tiny bit of mirth or idle chatter. Since we awoke, we have all been on edge, we fought a pair of pit fiends this afternoon, killed one, then saw the Abbot taken by the other, tended wounded, I came here and had to be rescued by the spellguard after learning nothing in the vault, while you three have literally traversed the continent. Idle religious chatter, even an argument on the nature of divinity, would be better than walking in silence, to divert our minds if for but a few moments"

"Then enough chatter...," Torma sighed. "Let us get where we are going."

"Tell me about it," Gaheris agreed as they walked up to the front gate. He wasn't sure what this conversation was about in the first place since he couldn't understand its beginnings, but he had a pretty good idea. "Let's just go as quickly as we can." He kept going through the gatehouse.

"Watch yourselves. Normally we would be safe from ambush outside the walls due to the mythal, but our foe can breach it and we do not know how well, and they can bypass the scrying detection, so we dont know if they are watching us"

"In this case, Astinius may be right..." Torma agreed, extending her own superior senses to watch for danger.

"No safe havens, I fear." Malkamar said, setting up the gateway and aligning it to return to Westgate. "A pity. I never liked that city." He said after a moment, before stepping through.

"Can we at least stop for lunch now?" Torma muttered as she followed Malkamar through the gate.

Torma vanished through the portal before Gaheris could answer. Cut off, the paladin shrugged his shoulders and motioned for Astinius to go first, reasoning that with Torma and Malkamar already through, a threat on the far end would already be occupied. He'd bring up the rear.

Astinius set himself to absorb any spells that came in his direction as he passed through the portal, and stepped through.

Once Astinius was gone, Gaheris turned and stepped through the gate.

The adventurers reappeared outside the Abbey walls. Men and women in blackened armour stood watch a top the walls and smoke still rose from some of the rubble.

"Oh yes." Torma answered, starting off into the abbey. "While you do that, I'm going to see if the kitchen's still working."

Gaheris wasted no time striding through the blasted front gates. He approached the first man he saw and (assuming it was not the Justiciar) addressed him with "I need to speak to Justiciar Krelben immediately."

"Of course, my lord," the guard replied. "I believe he's holding a conference in the library."

Gaheris nodded to the guard and started a brisk walk towards the library himself, keeping pace with Astinius. Upon arriving at the end of the short walk, he summarily entered the room with no announcement.

"Come on, Torma. We have to make sure they don't get into trouble without us fixing all their mistakes." Malkamar said simply, striding along.

The adventurers passed guards and priests, as well as piles of blackened stone and burnt wood. They were allowed into the undamaged parts of the Abbey and into the library, where the surviving high rankers of the church of Tyr were gathered. Justicar Krelben looked over at Gaheris in irritation as he entered the room.

"We've returned from Candlekeep, and know who and what is behind this," Gaheris stated flatly. Unless someone from outside Westgate had come to the Abbey by now, he was probably the highest ranking church lord in the room, and felt the need to dispense with decorum. "The sages of Candlekeep tell us that the names we supplied are connected with an aberrant race called the tsochari," he continued as his eyes became rimmed with a faint blue even as he watched for reaction.
