"Listen, I got shit to finish up here tonight... wanna do that tomorrow night?" he asked Marcus.

Marcus pursed his lips in thought. "Yeah alright, nothing I can't move around."

[Josh]

"Great. See ya then."

Wright grinned and turned back to his new ghouls.

"Okay, I'm not even going to bother learning whatever fucking names you had before you landed here. You," he said, pointing to the New Yorker "Are Ralph. You," he pointed at the black man "Are Tom, and you," he pointed at the latina "Are... Mary."

Ralph was dead- long live Ralph.

[frigidmagi]

"Wright, grab the blonde to." Jason said nodding towards the slight blonde girl.

[Josh]

"Yo, Cargo, how much for the blonde dame?" Wright reached for his money clip.

[Cynical Cat]

"She's a looker. Eight hundred."

[Josh]

He was in a hurry- the archons would be expecting to hear from them soon. He just shelled out the cash. "Hey Cargo, maybe we can do some biz in the future, right? Remember me to your employers, wouldja?"

[Cynical Cat]

"I'll pass it along. Don't bring your pussy friend. Next time my boys might have to drop him and that's trouble I don't want."

[Josh]

He shrugged. "What, you never kept nobody around purely just to fuck with 'em? Anyway, see ya."

He turned to leave.

[Cynical Cat]

"That's your business." Cargo replied. "But he's a problem for mine. If you bring him around, make it worth the extra aggravation."

[Josh]

He nodded, filing it away in the usual 'whatever you say, I'm going to do whatever the fuck I want' spot he placed most such concerns.

"Anyway, let's get these fuckers back to stash 'em, then go talk to the archons," he told Blue Eyes.

Wright pulled dangling cord, turning on the single light in the storage room. "Alright, bring 'em in, Fred."

The storeroom was damp and reeked of mold. "Tie 'em up," he ordered Fred. "You remember how."

As Fred began expertly hog-tying the Ralph, Wright settled in on a crate.

"Okay, whatever you did before, whereever you were before, it don't mean shit. You're all mine now, and if you're not mine, you're nothing. Now, I'm gonna give you some time to think this over, and then I'm gonna give you a very important decision to make about your lives. Because hey, I'm all about free choice," he rambled incoherently as Fred gagged Ralph, then roughly grabbed Mary.

"So while you're laying here in the dark, you just think about how long and how fucking miserable you can be. Because we got until the end of fucking time for you assholes to suffer." Wright concluded with a flourish.

He watched as Ralph tied Mary and then Tom. Couple of days in the stockroom, dark, cold, and dank, no food and no water, they'd accept servitude pretty damned quick. He checked the knots and noticed that the stupid ghoul hadn't tied the spic's knots as tight as he had the others. "Fred, what the fuck is this?" he snarled, slapping the ghoul. "You going fucking soft on me?"

"Sorry boss," Fred replied quickly, the only acceptable answer. He crouched down and retied the knot, then waited for Wright to check it again.

"Okay boys and girls, see you in a while."

Wright jogged up the stairs, yanking the cord on the bulb, plunging his future ghouls into darkness.

Going through the door, he greeted Blue Eyes and his dame. "You wanna stick her in a side room while we make good with the higher ups?"

"Yeah might has well." Jason said with a shrug. To be honest he had picked her on impulse and was figuring things on the fly. He never had a pet before.

[Cynical Cat]

The vampires returned to the train yard. After a while they found the female in the train station. It was mostly deserted at this time of night. The woman was standing outside the man's restroom.

[Josh]

"No fucking luck," he informed the dame archon. "You guys?"

[Cynical Cat]

"He left a message inside. In blood. 'Did you fools expect me to hang around?'" She shrugged. "Probably walked over here after the killing, wrote it in the stall, and left."

[Charon]

Marcus returned to his car, looking back at the man he had not spoken to him again. He let him open his own door, and even during the drive Marcus kept his silence. When they finally reached his home Marcus got out and waited for the man to reach the door before openning it to a place that looked far older than it had right to be in a place like Chicago. Everywhere antiques glittered in soft light.

"This is your new home. And I will be your master, of sorts. All I ask is that you keep my haven in proper order, and do various tasks for me." Marcus looked back at the broken leg that the man had rarely complained about. "As you have seen, we are not human, we are something far greater. I am going to bring you one step closer to such an existance. Your past is now null and void. All you have is here."

With that Marcus took a small dagger and an exquisite cup, then slit his wrist and let the blood flow into the cup. He then held it up to the man.

"To drink is to be damned for eternity. To drink is to also live for that eternity in perfect health."

[Josh]

"Oh," he said. "Guess you don't need us around anymore, then?" He turned to leave, content that the threat to his domain had been driven off. Revenge would be nice, but it wasn't worth sticking his precious neck out too far, for one, and dealing with fucking archons made him antsy.

But...

He glanced back at her. "You don't think he's playing reverse psychology here, do ya? Maybe doubling back on his trail?"

[Cynical Cat]

She shrugged. "Could be. He's tricky."

The human drank from Marcus's cup and their blood flowed together in his veins.

[Josh]

"You, ah, want I should hang around a bit longer, then?"

Damn it, having archons around was bad for business. What if he wanted to cut deals with indy clans like the Dagos on the sly?

But having a nasty freak killer around was worse.

Better to see if he could arrange some extra security. He could give a shit if this Riddlefucker whacked people all over the damned country or ripped Justicars' heads off and shit down their necks...

...in fact, he could respect that.

But he didn't want the fucker doing it on his turf. Or worse yet, doing it to him.

[Cynical Cat]

"No, don't bother. Go back to doing whatever it is you do."

[Josh]

Yeah, fuck you too, bitch.

He smiled graciously and nodded. "Hey, good luck. See ya around."

He turned and left.

[frigidmagi]

"So what now? The trail is cold and we are unlikely to be able to kill him if we catch him. We just let this one go and hit the mob boys?" Jason asked quietly.

[Josh]

"Hunting assholes like that is their job. So long as he isn't on my turf, I don't give a shit," Wright said, nodding. "Now we go back to O'Bannion and his little kike buddy, if they didn't get the hint from the first hit. And we make you all proper with the Prince. Hans said it wouldn't be a problem, so it probably won't."
