#1 Shadowrun P&P RPG?

Post by Something Awesome »

Does anyone have any experience playing Shadowrun? Ever since the Genesis game I've been interested in it, and I've read a few of the novels, but I've never had a chance to play it. However, I started playing D&D with some friends at college and one of the ideas tossed around for next year was to try out Shadowrun.

My questions include: What books are needed? Just a core rulebook, or are there others that are required/recommended? Also, which edition should we play? Should we go with the newest, or are there legitimate reasons to prefer playing an older one (in D&D, our DM hated 3.5 for whatever reason, so we played 3.0)?

4th Edition Shadowrun is the latest, but widely hated on this board due to its pandering to Street Samurai players *spit* and its abandonment of long established Shadowrun fluff. The Third edition books that are really essential are the main book, Cybertechnology, the Gamemaster's screen (includes a hummungus critters list), and The Grimoire.
It's not that I'm unforgiving, it's that most of the people who wrong me are unrepentant assholes.

Thanks for the info. Also, as a general RPG question, where's a good place to get books? I know I've seen a few at bookstores like Borders, but are there any good online sources you can recommend?
