Heroes: Shadows over Millenium

[Agent Fisher]

Ghost dived to his left, behind a dumpster. He poked the gun around the corner and pulled the trigger, sending a stream of bullets tumbling through the air towards the lizard. He fired high, above the Freak's head. When the Freak ducked, Ghost cloaked himself and poked around the dumpster and fired a bean bag, from the shotgun attached to his rifle, at the lizard's torso.

Saibot had used his ring to find the tracks of one of the Freaks, and began his own pursuit. He half wondered if he could get information out of the meta without killing him.....


The tracks lead to one of the neighboring buildings, he heard the chatter from the local PD over his helmet's radio scanners, but ignored it, taking a second to make sure he was protected by his life support force field, before moving into the building, staying on guard, Ring at the ready.

The lizardman spat another glob of the acid mucus in Ghost's direction, striking the dumpster that he had dove behind. The metal hissed and began to melt, tendrils of smoke rising off of it.

When Ghost fired the beanbag into his stomach, he doubled over. On all fours he charged Ghost, tail lashing about wildly, tongue flicking out as he smelled the air.

Saibot discovered a young woman on the ground against the wall. She moaned in pain as blood ran in a steady stream from her head. Her hand was pressed against her forehead, more blood staining her fingers as it seeped between them. Her eyes snapped up as she heard Saibot's footsteps.
"Oh God, help me! Don't let that thing get me!"

[Cynical Cat]

Blackheart flew above the scene, looking for the members of Freak Legion and making a tempting target.

With the woman's words, Saibot started looking around, scouring the area with his own sight, and the smaller vision enhancements in his helmet.

"Don't worry, I'm here to help. Where did it go?" he asked as he approached the woman, his right fist held clenched at his side, just incase.

Realizing that trying to take this one alive would be tougher than he thought, he leveled his rifle at the lizard, pulled back the bolt on the shotgun, loading in another bean bag round, and fired. He repeated as fast as he could, figuring he could get out another two rounds before the lizard reached him.

The lizardman charged into the hail of beanbags. One of them caught him between the eyes in midleap. He fell to the ground, stunned momentarily. The body skidded to a stop a foot away from Ghost. The claws twitched once, twice. The tail moved from left to right and then fell still.

The girl looked up at Saibot, her eyes wide with fear. Her coppery-red hair was stained with blood.
"I-it went t-that way. Oh God, don't leave me! Please don't leave me!"

Ghost quickly loaded in a double ought buck round into the shotgun and chambered it. He unhooked a strap on his vest and pulled off three pairs of flex-cuffs. He quickly cuffed the creatures arms and then legs and then finally a cuff connecting the leg and arm cuffs, effectively hog tying the lizard. He stepped back and kept himself cloaked. He turned on his comm and spoke into it.

"MRF Command, this is Agent Ghost, I'm in an alleyway with one Freak. Need a containment truck and a GAS here just in case."

"It's alright...I'll get you to safety..." Saibot looked the woman over, lifted his fist, as a wash of blue light flared out in a flattened pie shape.

Slowly the beam of light passed over the injured woman, scanning for injuries, as he patched into the comms, "This is Saibot, I need medvac with armed escort, I have a wounded civilian. Lock onto my signal."

"This is Gravitas. I have you, Saibot."

The Nova dipped low over the city, skimming down to street level to pick up the woman, tapping his forehead. "Ma'am. I'll get you to the nearest hospital, just relax and... Try not to look down."

Both Nova and baseline were then going up, the woman lifted with the strange control over gravity he had.

"Ghost, ground unit is inbound to your position. ETA 2 minutes."

One of the GAS units released its deathgrip on the handhold of the truck and leapt off of it. The machine was propelled a dozen feet into the air and came down with an earth-shaking landing. A giant assault cannon swung around on a carrying strap, gripped tightly across its chest.

It took off running towards Ghost's position, though it was slow. It was the reason they had the high speed air units, to keep track till the ground forces could get there.

The lizardman at Ghost's feet began to stir, body shuddering as muscles once again obeyed the commands of the brain.

The woman screamed loudly, and piercingly as she was lifted off the ground by some strange force. She screamed again and began to flail about.
"Oh my god! I'm going to fall! Oh Goooooooooooooooooddddddddd"

Ghost noticed the stirring. He loaded in another buck shot cartridge into the shotgun and waited. Once he was sure the lizard was awake again, he pulled back on the pump, making the distinct sound of a shotgun being readied. He aimed the rifle right at the creatures head. "Don't move lizard guy. Unless you want some buckshot sized holes in your head. Just relax, it's over for you."

Ghost noticed the stirring. He loaded in another buck shot cartridge into the shotgun and waited. Once he was sure the lizard was awake again, he pulled back on the pump, making the distinct sound of a shotgun being readied. He aimed the rifle right at the creatures head. "Don't move lizard guy. Unless you want some buckshot sized holes in your head. Just relax, it's over for you."

The shadows under the lizardman shivered, and then moved, wrapping the lizardman securely. "Allow me, Ghost," Argent said, slipping out of the shadows behind him. "That will hold him until the police arrive."

The odd eyes with their now-tarnish silver pupils look at Ghost oddly. "Saibot did not think to tell you what the sword does, I see..." she said simply. "If you had simply held the hilt and willed it, you would have gained a brief burst of superspeed. You do not need to draw the sabre to do this."

"Oh my god! I'm going to fall! Oh Goooooooooooooooooddddddddd"

Argent looked towards the screaming casually. "I believe Gravitus is trying to be helpful...."

Ghost remained still and decloaked. Inside he wanted to jump back in shock. Argent was really starting to creep him out. "Thanks, Argent."

"You are welcome," she answered, bowing slightly. "You are far stronger than certain people believe, Ghost. It makes me question the timing of the proposed upgrade."

[Agent Fisher]

Ghost looked at her through the lens of his gas mask. "Yeah, well, I'm just an invisible guy with a gun." He said and hefted his rifle, shrugging. "Anyway, once that GAS gets here, we can take care of it. You should go help Blast or Blackheart."

Once he fell silent he looked to his right towards the entrance of the alleyway. The MRF officer in the Ground Assault Suit came around the corner. Ghost waved him over. He turned on his comm to be heard more clearly over the sound of the powered armor. "Officer, whats the ETA on your containment truck."

"Blast and Blackheart have little need of me at the moment," Argent stated calmly. "You needed information about the sabre's abilities." She was fading into the shadow she'd appeared from as the GAS unit stomped closer. "I was pleased to find you did not need aid with your target."

[Hotfoot]

The sudden influx of activity was somewhat distracting, gunshots, energy manipulation, powered armored suits, and the freaks and...well whatever you could call what they did. Collin's heart started to pound as adrenaline rushed through his body. The freaks that had thought they escaped were still running, laughing to each other. He had to make a decision, and he had to make it quickly.

The plasmic shield flashed to light, brightly enough to hopefully act as a flare to the nearby law enforcement officials. The world slowed down as he looked out through the faint distortion of the the blazing field around him caused. He started to run towards the nearest freak, lining it up with the one behind him so that when his dropkick hit the first freak at a high rate of speed, it would knock him into the other. Hopefully in the confusion he could sweep the remaining freaks off their feet and make a retreat back into an alleyway to set up another attack run, but he knew what his mom always said about plans...

Blackheart caught the speeding blur of plasma as Collin zipped through around. Great, a speedster. He hoped it was an amateur instead of an enemy. He flew towards the brilliant blur, trading height for speed. One way or the other he was going to find out soon enough.

"Do they always have to scream like this?" Gravitas asked himself as the baseline woman panicked. When he set her down, gently as anything, atop a hospital's helipad to the surprise of the team there, he was heading back to the fray, trying to get an idea of how many were unengaged so far.

With the girl gone, Saibot went back to searching the building, the light from his ring sweeping out, acting as a sensor beam, to locate any trace of the meta-freak.

As Saibot went about his search he found absolutely nothing. No more footprints appeared to him.

More sirens sounded in the distance as the containment units were dispatched to round up the metas.

The GAS unit stomped into view. It stood nearly ten foot tall and was covered in a black non-reflective alloy. The large barreled rifle came up, covering the alleyway. The power armor moved forward, looming over the fallen lizardman. It reached down and grabbed it by the back of the neck, hoisting it in the air.

Through a loudspeaker the officer read the Freak his Miranda rights.

As the GAS took control of the Freak, the shadows holding it dissapated away, taking with it the unnatural chill they carried. Argent was finished here, she had finally spoken long enough with Ghost for a faint link to form with him, and she had given him the advice Saibot had neglected. "It may be wise to practice with the sabre, Ghost," she said from the shadows, merely a pair of tarnished silver eyes. "I will take your advice and check on Blackheart now."

The eyes vanish, leaving Ghost to his own devices for now as she flittered from shadow to shadow, following the doubled thread in her mind that lead to Blackheart.

Saibot growled with frustration at the lost meta. The ring didn't detect any traces of temporal or spatial distortions which usually accompanied most metahuman teleports or phasing powers...

So where the hell did it go....

"This is Saibot, I lost my target."

With that, he lifted off and flew out of the building, looking for traces of the other Freaks.

Ghost looked at the last spot Argent had been and just shook his head. Women, I'll never understand them. He thought to himself. He kept his rifle pointed at the lizard as he and the officer in the suit waited for the containment truck. He reached down to his comm unit on his vest and changed channel from the MRF to the freq for Mirage Team.

"Blackheart, this is Ghost, one Freak captured, over."
