#1 Behold the Power of Gary Larson!

Smithsonian

Thanks to Ender for finding this:
Also, the spikes on the end of Stegosaurus' tail now have an official name, The Thagomizer, suggested in a Far Side cartoon by Gary Larson. (Reference: The Complete Dinosaur, James O. Farlow and M. K. Brett-Surman, editors, Indiana University Press, Bloomington and Indianapolis, Indiana, 1997, p. 302.)

That's right, the spikes on a Stegasaurus have been named after a caption in a Far Side cartoon. Hail to the King!
It's not that I'm unforgiving, it's that most of the people who wrong me are unrepentant assholes.

That is fucking awesome. No longer will I have to say "spiked tail" when talking about Stegosaurids. I can now talk about it's Thagomizer.

I would like to thank you for posting this. The Thagomizer totally made my day. Not counting the two lists that I've sent this to, I've told no less than three people today about it.

So how many names has Gary Larson inspired now? I know he got a feather louse named after him.

Storytime update 8/31: Frigidmagi might be amused by this one.
