The Hylidaeian snorted when Asmodeus spoke of a mistranslation. "The city is the evil preacher. There is no difference anymore."
As the Father continued his tirade the trio of riders turned their horses around and began heading back towards the city. "It is clear that your arrogance is as hard as our walls. Perhaps you can use your heads to tear down our walls and drop the stones on our women and children."
As the riders continued away, they came to a sudden stop. Standing in the way now was a Kainan dressed in the vestiments of the Inquisition. In one hand he held a glowing warhammer.
"The One God giveth."
The Kainan took a step forward.
"The One God taketh away."
The vestiments shook as the Kainan took up his warhammer in his second hand.
"The lord tells us of daemons, to keep us wary of straying from the path. You have lost your path and led others to stray. In the name of Dahhok I name thee, daemon."
Before any of the Hylidaeians could react, Gregori swung his warhammer. A blinding light shone, forcing all those in both the city and the army camp to look away. By the time the light faded away, three horses now stood without riders, looking very perturbed and panicky. Gregori set his warhammer down and stepped up to the horses, slowly calming them with whispered prayers.

"I always have loved that spell" Asmodeus said as he gave the greeting trill to his friend
"Gregori came just in time" Elan said before turning back to the Archmages and giving them orders
"When the camp is made, I would like to test their defenses. You know what to do"
The mages smiled and turned back to their units to supervise and assist in the construction of the marching camp

Taurian
The PriestKing Alessian stood in red and silver robes, holding a bronze knife. His eyes were closed and he rocked back and forth on his heels as he followed the hymn song by the jr priest below him. He stood on a raised ziggurt like platform, created in imatation of the temples outside the palace. Beside him stood an old white bull, specially bred for this. Usually it was part of a small herd that was quatered inside the city away from the bustle of the market or the port. Right now it was atop of the alter next to him throughly drugged.
Thou wert victums of cruelity and so thou shalt not be needlessly cruel
He was called the PriestKing of Taurian and there was truth in the title, he was the most powerful man in the nation. But what constantly went over the heads of outlanders and sometimes the heads of Taurian who did not pay attention in school was that the PriestKing himself was just a servant. A servant of the true ruler of all the Taurian. The Lord God Altian.
He slashed the throat of the beast with speed and expertness, he had done this for awhile now, senior priest held the great old bull upright as it bled into a basin on the altar. Alessian himself held the bull by the horns and helpped ease it to the ground when it bled out. The basin was full to the brim, cleaning it would take many hours. He placed his hands into the basin and breathed deep.
The room went Golden, his hair stood on end and the smell of ozone flooded the place. Altian was a God of Storms and Power.
There is no Power without Price and no Knowledge without Sarifice
The moment was over almost before it began and yet Alessian felt weak, as if he had ran for miles without end in full armor and a pack on his back. He fell to his knees gasping for breath. No PriestKing had ever died in this rite, but some of the great eldar had been known to slip away the next night in their sleep. A senior priest many years older then him came to his aide. It was a strange scene. Younger priest fell upon the bull's body. It's offal would be burnt to Cailtian, a thanks for giving the knowledge needed to tame and raise the bull. The meat cooked and given to the orphans of the city.
As you were slaves before you knew me and lifted due to my grace, so you shall do to the least among you. So shall you do to the poor, the hungry and the fatherless, because so you do unto me
"The word is given, inform Greltian Darkness moves upon the Earth toward the nation and so shall we " He said and was carried to his apartments, thankfully he could depend on Judiren to have a bath ready, truely Mairen had been merciful to him when she selected her to be his mate and Queen.

A flight of dracoliches headed north, silent, deadly escort to the 10 Airships at the flight's center.
On the ground, and along the length of shore as far as the eye could see, the great Ilithian warmachine was in ready, hulking reptile men and thier slave races, undead from nearly every race on the continent.
Already, garrison and army detachments where headed north, west and east, moving to call upon allies and prepared to send word of possible enemy approaches.
From his place upon the Black Ship, Gret-un the Devourer - Commander of the Ilithian air and naval forces - turned to his counterpart, Dru'ngo - High General of the Ilithian ground forces - "we ssssshal move quickly. Three scout fleets already move West and East, a squadron of Airships loaded with warriors and protected by drakes proceed to occupy Korlech. The armies must be prepared to give us aid."
"Worry not Gret-un, we sssssshall devour our foesssss. Chemossssssssssh demandsssss our total victory....nothing lessssssss."

Grand Throne Room, Dunsbane Castle, Eire
Rynskald appeared next to Artair's throne, as he was accustomed to do. He was among the few mages of the realm who the wards were keyed to allow to teleport through.
"I wish you wouldn't do that," said Artair, who had just adjourned court for the day. "How go the preparations?"
"Most of the ships are loaded, sire," responded the mighty wizard. "The convoy should set out for the Taurian holds within the hour."
"Very good. The Triad go with them all," the king intoned, standing from his throne.

Gregori continued to whisper to the horses as he slowly turned them around and back towards the camp, ignoring the cheering words of the others. Too eager for blood were they. All were children of Dahhok, and fallen or not their demise was to be mourned. As the inquisitor passed by the camp and set the three horses away from the others, he sat down and began to pray for the souls of those he had just killed.

As the third ship burst into flames, it became clear that all three ships were doomed. To some extent the ship that had been struck by Melavan's fire had it under some semblence of control, but the mast was beginning to collapse. In desperation some sailors grabbed up white flags and began waving them.

Gulf of Viconia
Azzerekis circled the dying ships before heading back towards Skarabrak. A sending from the Witch King alerted the initiates on duty to order the warships there to prepare to make sail to capture the wounded vessel. Mage cadres would be aboard and Azzerekess would meet them, allowing them to devestate the Viconian navy if they came to contest the taking. One cadre and the Grandmaster would remain in Skarabrak, should the Viconians get foolishly ambitious.

Pesht-on-Danub
Southern Border
High Korlech
The city of Pesht-on-Danub sat astride the convergence of the Dan and Ubvic rivers, their swift courses mellowing and slowing into the Danub as they reached the broad interior plains of Korlech's fertile lowlands. To the northwest, the State Highway followed the Dan, through the Kaldic Mountains and into Transkaldia, the State provinces which bordered the Taurian Empire.
From the east came a long river of ruddy light. The night sky was turned pale red by the glow of thousands of bruning brands. Columns of troops were marching- Five honved of the State Army, trained Immortals all, along with twelve honved of Animated auxilia. Two more honved, the Transkaldian garrisons, waited at Csabrag Fortress on the other side of the Kaldics.
Lord Embalmed Istvan Gar Hadzrejic, Hercega of Pesht-on-Danub, observed the muster-field with eyes unhindered by darkness. The horse-retainers of his subordinate grofas and baroys had been arriving for days. Huge embalmed destriers, their flesh fitted with sharp blades and clad in thick barding, stamped and whinnied. Quick units of live mercenaries, the horse-levies of the poorer nobles, came and went as they patrolled for the expected arrival.
For weeks, the rangers had reported movement in the far South. Great objects had been sighted, bloated things moving through the air. Foul vapours had been seen rising from the workshops and muster-fields of the Ilithians. Any force entering Korlech from the South would have to deal with Pesht-on-Danub- the third largest city in the State, it also controlled water communications and by extension, the whole of the lowland interior.
It was there that the bulk of the State Army would assemble. When the Ilithian force arrived, Istvan would have to decide for himself what course of action to take.

Taurian
Greltian, stroked his beard as he considered the orders in front of them. Everyone knew that one of the white bulls had gone under the knife. There must be hundreds who kept a close count among the temple servants alone never mind in the city of TaurHold proper...
Word had even spread that PriestKing Alessian had had a vision of some kind. A direct exposure to the Divine Light of Altian without any veil even! Something that was draining in the extreme. Greltian knew because his father had needed to be carryed back to his bed after his exposures. These orders confirmed something was up. Course anyone over 3 years old knew that something was going to happen. The navy was on high alert, the border was like a kicked over ant hill and gods knew what strangness was going on in the out lands.
He sighed and called in the men he had selected to take command of the armies. This was going to be interesting times. The Netherese had a curse that went along those lines he remembered. The briefing went quickly, there wasn't much to say. Greltian stood up at the end of it, his hand drifted over SerpantBane as if for reasurence.
"Alright, that's it. Good Luck and may the gods and goddess' bless." He said and they turned to go. There was alot of men and matieral to move.

Captain Aariltian looked out over the freshly cleared area. The land around the settlement had been cleared out to a bow's shot distance to provide clear lines of of fire and to prevent harassment from cover. Just in case. The walls were up around the shelters. They weren't much really. Barricks for the the troops and workers, some small houses for the families of settlers, the beginings of the port and docks and of course the temple.
The temple was built in the center of the town and could also double as a strongpoint in and of itself. All the clerics were living in there as well as conducting various rituals and teaching the children of the town their letters, math and history. Pigs, chickens, goats were in newly constructed pens, the wood still bleeding sap in some cases. Vegatables had been planted. There was not enough cleared land for grains, nor was the land really all the suitable for it, more the pity.
He considered all this as he listened to the request to begin sending out scout groups into the neighboring terrian. It wasn't surprising that the request came from one of his Lt's. Captain Aariltian was the son of a priest, the Lt however was the son of a dye merchant and was eager to see what herbs and dyes could be found in that verdant green unexpored hell of a swamp. A good number of the troops were second or thrid sons with no inherance to their name. They would leap at the chance to make some money on the side perhaps gain entrance to a trade...
"Very Well, Lt. But groups from 10 to 20 only. No one is goes out alone or unarmed. I want the area around the colony mapped and scouted before anything else is done and you are to take a priest or priestess with you any time you go beyond cleared lands. Am I clear?" He asked unnescessarly.

The marching camp was created, now taking the city was at the top of the list of priorities.
The first obstacle would be to take out the enemy artillery which could out-range the Hylidaeian longbows. For that, the twenty mages attached to the two armies took center stage. While Arlenian and Syracusa wove spells against physical projectiles, Elan stood watch, prepared to counter any number of spells launched at his fellow magic-users.
The twenty mages let out a chorus of calls, each note calling forth the powerof the universe they held at their fingertips. Each one upon the completion of their spell sent a fireball toward their designated targets. One fireball would explode slightly above the tower containing a ballistae in the hopes of burning it. The second would strike the battlement of the tower in the hope of damaging the Merlons and allow for more direct attacks shold the fireball not work.

The UnNamed Lands (South and East of the Morsum)
Manevius and Korsius had spent the night before drinking firewater--a product of the Ice Giant people in this frozen land, and something that the Morkan would not touch. As it was, the armies in which they were to head up saw a slow beginning to their march, something starting rather late in the day.
"I prefer that we travel at night, anyway." The frost-troll had grumbled, running a whetstone along the length of his gigantic yatagan. Helalsius had decided that she had much business to attend to at her temple-home to train with several promising magi, and had left the first leg of thie journey to her two commanders. Both of them respected and feared the gargantuan bear--though not necessarily in that order. There was a reason for taking this mountain, and she had been appearantly plotting it for some time.
The force she'd assigned them seemed a bit much to the troll, but the Thunderbringer insisted it was a 'show of force'. "When the savage men and beasts of the north see the might of Helalsius's arm, they shall have no choice but to either bow before us, or flee in utter despair." The giant was more wordy than Manevius could appreciate, but he nodded every once in a while, pretending to hear his grandoise speech. Chewing on a yeti arm he'd felled earlier, he thoughtfully surveyed the troops.
Seeming to have a knack for popping in and disturbing the poor troll when he actually took time to think, Korsius's booming voice rattles off behind him--even addressing him. "three hundred of Your Trolls...ten of my men (he meant the giants of course), maybe ten-score bear riders...and a full looks like five hundred of Helalsius' people."
Manevius turns, somewhat aggrivated with the giant, looking up to him, he snarls, "And?"
"And, just what do you think is at that mountain?" With a twinkle in his eye, Korsius Thunderbringer noisly clods away. Manevius turns about, facing to his right where he knew their destination was. What was there that was so important? He shakes himself violently. Thinking wasn't really his strong suit.
"ALL RIGHT YOU SLOBS!" The troll waves his mace and chain over the encampent below, his bellow in the language of the Morsum echoing throughout the hills. "GET PACKING!" In another half an hour the entire camp was gone from those snowy hills, making good time south.

The fireballs exploded above the ballistae's mostly harmlessly, those that were lit on fire were quickly doused with water by troops that were watching over them. The second set of fireballs crashed harmlessly against the stone and exploded. Showy, and leaving large scorches along the battlements, but ultimately useless. Unfortunately for the mages, they had likely not expected the ballistae to return fire so quickly. And they were well within range of the return fire.
A few seconds after the fireballs exploded, a sharp whistling sound could be heard and before another enchantment could be cast three of the Hylidaeian mages seemed to disappear completely. Large holes could be seen in parts of the protective barrier Arlenian and Syracusa had put up, but as one of the mages looked up they could see the tip of a ballista bolt, no more than 5 inches away from his face. The barrier had held, and saved at least two other Hylidaeian's. But it wouldn't be long before a second round was fired.

The scouts were watched carefully from the trees, the natives being careful not to let them be aware of their presense just yet. The Bei'ilorn hadn't been particularly happy to not have a part in this. But for now they let the Ma'athlon do as they would. As scouts passed under them they thought they heard twigs breaking, once they looked up though, nothing was there. This wasn't the first time they'd heard something without seeing it. Was this forest haunted?
100 Miles off the coast of Yawgmon's Banner
The massive navy force of the Koronan Empire began to slow down, allowing the 20 Blitzkreig scouts to pull further ahead and the 40 Astrof warships to form up around the 20 Wodil troop carriers. By now the ships of Yawgmon's Banner would have spotted them, now it was a matter of convincing them to show themselves. There was no way the territorial Orcs would agree to the stiff demands set forward by the Empire, so there would be a battle. Then there would be the siege, and it would be a question of if they had enough troops to carry it out.

HMS Argent Knight, Eire military convoy, Dusk, second day out from Mern. Raman Gulf
Hernan Kaerleon sat in the Argent Knight's crow's nest, keeping a watchful eye on the clouds to the north of his ship, wary of a storm, even as he watched the spacing between his ship and the ones around it. The ship's wizard, Zian Tasck, was currently running a spell to make the winds around the ship propel it towards the eastern shore, but while it sped their journey, it also made it difficult for Hernan to predict which way the clouds were moving. In daylight, the weathered lookout could have told through the roiling patterns of the clouds, but the darkling twilight didn't afford enough light for him to see clearly.
If they didn't bear down on the convoy right away, it would hardly matter. The captain expected to reach Taurian ports sometime in the next day.

News traveled slowly, yet it still moved across the world. Many thought the Nithgaard were isolationist, having no idea just how much news reached the ears of Queen Gliadrachan.
"War has started in the South," the Queen said simply, and the crystal in front of her relayed her words to her Dukes in their respective keeps. "Both the Serpents and the Humes are moving. Even the frogs are arrayed for warfare. It will spread across the world like a wildfire in dry forest."
Rurik, Duke of Heronter, was the first to speak. "My queen... shall we warn the Skarklaggers of this? They are babes taking their first steps, a war like this will devour them."
"The Skarklagger are stronger than you believe, Rurik." Gliadrachan answered. "Yet you are right to think of this. Warn them also of the Konoran threat, so they are not taken unawares."
"What are Your Majesty's plans for the Konorans, should they come North?" Yngvar asked. The so-called emissaries of the Konorans had come to Abhainglas, speaking of peace, yet spoiling for a war.
Gliadrachan's fingers folded in front of her as she looked not to the crystal, but to the clouded future. "Come they will... but not as yet. They may try a strike to Riversmeet across the Western Gulf first. That some of the citizens are Kainian and some Frogs will not stay their hand. To them, far too many generations have passed for those in Riversmeet to be 'true' Kainian."
Yngvar nodded. He was just old enough to remember Riversmeet's founding as a tiny trading port on the sandy beach where a river from the mountains flowed into the Western Gulf. Fur-traders, hunters of the mountains, fishers of river and gulf, all found it a good place to meet, and so the tiny fort became a hamlet. The hamlet became a village, the village a town, the town a city, and now Riversmeet was all but a state to itself. Yet the city-state would not survive a war without aid. "So.. will we go to war if they are attacked?"
Silence was his only answer, as Gliadrachan closed the connection.
(((EDIT: "Riversmeet" is city-state #8 on the map, directly across from Æthelmearc. It is listed as Elven, Hydi-whatis (frog), and Kainian, so I am playing as a trade city that grew up as described.)))

Elen immediately ordered his men back as he constructed a barrier which would cover their retreat. They all moved outside of Ballistae range as fast as their leaping could take them.
"ROund one to defenders. This will take a bit more creativity than I was expecting, I underestimated their range, and overestimated our ability to defend ourselves. It is time we took a strategy out of an ancient tome... Tell the men that they will have to pick up their spades tomorrow"

A second round of ballista rounds bounced off of the shield Elan had formed, cracks were beginning to appear in the wall though. The mages were well out of ballista range before a third round could be fired however. As preparations for the siege continued, the navy of Lars Port pulled up to the shore as close as they could and turned to add their firepower to the defense of Lars Port, for all it would be worth.
And then the main doors opened and out marched 5,000 men-at-arms. 4,000 men armed with halberds, and 1,000 crossbowmen. Behind the small troop came a single rider, King Alphonse, holding a black bladed sword high as his armor shone in the fading light of the sun.
The troops stood about 100 yards off from the walls of the city and began clanging their swords on their shields and chanting for battle.

"If they wish to throw themselves at us, let them. We control the engagement, we will not get within range of their artillery" Elan ordered coldly. He would not be goaded into rash action.
The army did however form up. Heavy Infantry in the front, Pikes on the flanks, and Longbowmen in the middle. The mages were on foot, and stood behind the center ready to shield their soldiers from arrows if the enemy dared to come within range.
Provisionals based upon what range currently is as theFormation is well outside artillery range, but maybe within longbow or magic range of the army:
If the enemy army is in longbow range, but outside ballistae, the longbowmen open up with an arrow storm
If the enemy army is in magic-range but outside artillery range, alternating lighting bolts and fireballs into their ranks from the Mages, anti-magic defense from the Archmages and. Enemy crossbows are not in range (and it would be suicide for them to be so, as they would have to charge through the above mentioned arrow storm)
If the above conditions are not met:
Elan weaves a spell, and the enemy army sees the Hylidaeian infantry moving toward their position.

The ranks of soldiers fall into ready position as the army of Hylidaeian's seem to move toward them. Some men even begin to move forward to challenge them before they are reigned in by their commanding officers. King Alphonse looks carefully at the army for a few moments before laughing heartily. He leans down and whispers to two of his runners. The first makes his way through the lines of men, telling the commanders of each unit what he had been told. The other runner ran inside the castle again to spread his own message.
After some time it became apparent that the defending army had no intention of charging into the enemy ranks.

"Sir, they see the illusion" Syracusa intonned
"I am aware. I didnt think they wouldn't. But it was worth a shot"
With that, he moved forward through the ranks of his own soldiers, weaving defensive spells as he went. Not against projectiles, but against enemy magics, just in case.
He eyed the battlefield. He knew now the range of the ballistae, and already knew the relative range of crossbows.
The archmages saw what he was about to do, and wove their own magics into his own, these to defend against projectiles, just in case.
He got to his position, just within his range of the enemy army, and outside their combat range.
Then he wove his first offensive spell. He let our a chort and a tiny spark appeared in his hands. A chuckle and a broad sweeping motion of his sent the tiny spark into the ranks of enemy halberders where it would explode into a raging inferno. With that, he moved out of his range with a backward leap, and focused on defense if they had any magic-users in ther ranks powerful enough to challenge him and his Cadre of fellows.

The spark exploded in the ranks of men and the unit scattered some to avoid the flames. A trumpet call chimed in the air as the men took up a looser formation to keep such attacks from causing more casualties, other than that though, the troops did not move forward or back. Nor was there any sort of magical retaliation against Elan. If there were mages here, they would not speak up even to help their own men.
Above the army of Lars Port, the ballista turned and moved themselves off their positions, at least that is how it seemed to the army of the Hylidaeian's. To Elan's experienced eyes, he saw that it was merely an illusion and the ballistae had not moved at all.

The troops began to rustle among themselves. They were an experienced army however, and their discipline was such that why would not change position without orders. Elan looked at the apparent movement of the artillery and coldly held his hand up, and with a warbling sound that would be unintelligible for anyone not trained in Hylidaeian military code, ordered his men to remain in positions, informing them of the illusory status of the ballistae movements.

93 miles off the coast of Yawgmon's Banner
"Oi, Boss," called down the rough voice of the lookout. "We'ze gots humie shipz out thataway," he continued, pointing.
The orc captain slapped a cobbled together spyglass to his eye and peered. "Lots o' humiez," he said in a guttural tone. "All roight, youze gitz! Git this ship movin' back. We'ze gots to tell Warboss Yawgmon about dis."

Abhainglas, Æthelmearc
Yngvar McErne, Duke of Abhainglas, stood dockside, watching as half the Æthelmearc fleet readied itself for maneuvers along the southern coast. The siege of Lars Port needed to be watched very carefully, and the Frogs and Humes reminded where the Nithgaard's control of the Western Gulf began. Thus, a full twenty-five warships and fifty smaller scoutships were ordered to patrol the 150km-wide stretch between Æthelmearc's shores and the beseiged city-state.
"Remember your orders well," Yngvar reminded the captains yet again. "No aid to either side. Defend yourself if attacked, yet do nothing to initiate attack. Our Queen does not want involved in the Humes petty wars, and Lars Port has done little to earn our alliance. This is a show of force, not a declaration of intent."
The captains all nodded in agreement, and Yngvar added the final touch. "Since the excuse is wargames, let the game begin once all ships have left the harbour. The winner shall fly the Queen's own banner, and the crew gifted with tokens from Her Majesty's own hands."
Taranach
"My Queen, is this truly your wish?" Culann McRee, Duke of Rhydderach, asked via the crystal.
"It is, Duke McRee." Gliadrachan answered solemnly. "Send emmissaries to Riversmeet and offer them the protection of Æthelmearc. They should already know Lars Port is under siege, and they are no fools. The ruling council will argue and fight, but in the end Riversmeet will welcome our aid."
"It will be done, my Queen. We will prepare barracks for The Neagh regiments, and have The Ree ready to move upon Your word."
Gliadrachan nodded to the Duke as he bowed, waving her hand to dim the crystal and end the conversation. The Neagh and The Ree would be able to circle the tip of the Western Gulf easily, reaching Riversmeet in a matter of days. If need be, they could be ferried across by ship, yet Gliadrachan hoped to have enough time to array her forces to their best advantage.
She had little doubt she could take Riversmeet by force; yet it would waste resources on both sides as well as time better spent preparing for the true threat. For now, it was far better to come as possible allies than as invaders. The few Nithgaard who had left Æthelmearc to dwell in the relaxed culture of Riversmeet should tip the council towards accepting her offer of protection. They should know by now that if she had wished, Riversmeet would have been annexed long ago.
Still... if Riversmeet refused ... something would have to be done to prevent the Frogs and Humes from swallowing the western coastline. Lars Port was only the beginning.

Lars Port
Alphonse noticed the shifting movements for a few moments before the call ceased it. They'd seen through it as well, but now it was time to bring them in. Another trumpet called out and the troops slowly fell back into the city once again. King Alphonse raised his blade to his enemy one more time before riding into the city.
100 miles off the Coast of Yawgmon's Banner
The scouts sent signal flags. They'd spotted the enemy but they had turned to run. They could be caught but it would be close. Total of forty ships, none looked like heavy warships.
Admiral Ross received the message and nodded slowly as he thought. "Leave them be. We don't have quite enough forces to split our forces to be able to defeat them soundly and defend the troops. Keep on our course, as soon as we've dropped them off we will be able to smash their navy properly and end the pirate threat."
The signal flags were sent back to the scouts who slowed down to allow the others to catch up some, then they would make landfall, let the land troops set up camp, and protect them.

Nikolai Kainus was playing a game of Khett with his son when a messenger from the mirror room arrived. Nikolai placed one of the Chosen, smiling to his son and then looked up at the messenger. "Yes?"
Fredrik giggled like a little boy as he considered his moves, he often played with his father and General King, he often won, but at 8 even he could see that they let him win most of the time. As the boy considered his moves, the messenger spoke.
"The Nithgaard are going to be beginning war games in the Western Gulf my lord."
"A reaction to the Hylidaeian siege."
"Most likely my lord."
Nikolai reached out and grabbed his son's hand as the young boy tried to cheat. Holding his son's hand tightly he spoke to the messenger. "Wait a few days and then send most of the fleet to have their own wargames just off the Western coast of Ji-Kai."
The messenger looked confused. "A few days my lord?"
"So they don't know of the spies in their midst."
"Of course my lord." The messenger ran off again.
Nikolai looked over at his son again. "Now then, where were we?"
Alphonse noticed the shifting movements for a few moments before the call ceased it. They'd seen through it as well, but now it was time to bring them in. Another trumpet called out and the troops slowly fell back into the city once again. King Alphonse raised his blade to his enemy one more time before riding into the city.

King Steven could see the distant storm clouds of war approaching ever closer to his realm. Tensions had been mounting for years, and they had finally come to a boil. He called in his advisors and made preparations for the upcoming trials.
The eagle riders were tasked with gathering information and watching what transpires on the surface from above. There they could report back to field commanders on enemy movements and other developments. They can also be used as go-betweens. Steven tasked a pair of riders to take word to the Taurens that a contingent of cavalry lead by Steven Dobó and Sister Katalin would begin riding to their support, with more available should it be required.
The dynamic hussar General made appeals to the King to be allowed to take Gerge Bornemissza with him. Steven knew of the young alchemist and his work, and had enthusiastically supported his experimentations. He doubted he would be much help in a fight though, the scholar did not look like he could pick up a sword let alone use one. Dobó insisted that he could be of use. He thought on this and let Gerge travel with the two warriors.
