Heroes: Shadows over Millenium

Shadows spread along the hole Gravitas just opened, shoring up the sides, preventing more rubble from falling in. "Garth? Legacies?" Lei called, extending her empathy, trying to find them that way as well.

"If I use my name, my real name I mean, that endangers people who know me. People I care about Father. Can't let that happen. As for what I stand for. I figure people should be able to tell that by my actions and if they can't a name isn't going to mean very much at all is it?" Blast replied as he bent down and moved another stack, he caught a look at a dark green book with black letters.

"What was the name of your book again?" He asked.

"There are several, actually, but I had them all in one place. The book on the top was...was..." Father Ellison scanned the room, rythmically tapping his fingers across several stacks of books, finally coming to rest on one stack in particular, grabbing the book Blast was eyeing and glancing at the cover. "Ah! Demons and Demoniacs! Here we go." The Father started picking up several old books, being very peculiar in the order he did so. On the end, he had a stack of seven books, stacked as much like a pyramid as he could. He nodded Blast over to a table and set down the books. "What can you tell me about this man? Did you notice anything out of the ordinary, including his powers?"

Blackheart burrowed into the rubble and began tossing out chunks as he dug towards where he though Saibot and Legacies were.

"There are several, actually, but I had them all in one place. The book on the top was...was..." Father Ellison scanned the room, rythmically tapping his fingers across several stacks of books, finally coming to rest on one stack in particular, grabbing the book Blast was eyeing and glancing at the cover. "Ah! Demons and Demoniacs! Here we go." The Father started picking up several old books, being very peculiar in the order he did so. On the end, he had a stack of seven books, stacked as much like a pyramid as he could. He nodded Blast over to a table and set down the books. "What can you tell me about this man? Did you notice anything out of the ordinary, including his powers?"

"He had some kinda of field around him, made everything decay or age faster. He took lot of punishment and had monsterous level strength. Wasn't all that agile or fast though as I remember it. But he didn't need to be. It took 3 or 4 of us to even hurt him. I never threw that much power into a single hit before, I was always to afraid to before that fight. During that fight I was to afraid not to." Blast reported.

The forcefield which kept the two from being crushed by the rubble gave Saibot the only illumination he had.

The shifting of rubble above though, as well as Argent's clarion call in his mind, told him the others were already trying to get them out. His ring would hold, as long as he could concentrate.

Nearby, Legacies laid, still unconcious, where he'd been since the collapse. Saibot had managed to work his way next to his friend.

'I'm here Lei...' he replied to her through the link, 'Legacies is unconcious...I've got a forcefield keeping the rock off of us. Don't let whoever is digging wear themselves out to fast.'

[Cynical Cat]

Chunks of rubble were tossed away as Blackheart burrowed in. A soft glow came from beneath him. "I can see forcefield glow!" he shouted. "Not too much further!"

The heaviest of the last chunks were hefted and shifted into the pile of the ruins Gravitas had made. "Well, now I don't have to worry about that grant money that was just collecting interest." He sighed simply. "I can rebuild whatever this was before two Metas smashed it down. You two need a doctor?"

Lei's shadows again spread out as she concentrated, holding back the rest of the rubble to prevent the sides of the hole from collapsing. "You'd... not want to build here... Gravitas. Not in the wastes of the Old City..."

Garth was trying to tell her something, to reassure her he was ok. She was no telepath, so all she knew was he was ok... but worried. "Can you see them yet, Blackheart? Saibot's ok... but he's worried about Legacies."

Once again, she asked herself what she'd seen, why they'd been fighting. Should she tell Gravitas and Blackheart that Legacies and Saibot did this to themselves? What were the two of them thinking?

The shadows wavered with her concentration, and she forced her mind back on task. Emotions. Dangerous, barely controllable. She would have to empty herself soon, before she hurt someone....

Blackheart pushed the last of the rubble away. "Have you two finished trying to kill each other yet?"

Saibot looked up as the rocks where cleared, the forcefield expanding till he could stand, then disappearing where the rocks where cleared away.

"Legacies is hurt, we need medical A.S.A.P. And for the record, I wasn't trying to kill him. He provoked me."

"You were trying to hurt him, Garth... just as he was trying to hurt you." Lei softly corrected him, eyes lowered, not looking at him. The shadows around her had spread out as she'd used them to stabilize the hole, revealing herself still in the little black mandarin-style dress she had donned for dinner with ZuFu. In the outside light, the water-pressed design revealed itself as dragons swiming thru the fabric, clinging to her curves.

"Blackheart... I can teleport Legacies to the medic, but then the hole will collapse," again, her voice was soft, tightly controlled, her eyes lowered.

There was nothing emotional about any of her actions or words.

Blackheart restrained his temper. Saibot always had an excuse for his shit but somehow that's all he ever produced. "Get Legacies out of here," he told Argent through clenched teeth.

[LadyTevar]

The shadowdragon flared around Lei, pulling itself from the shadows supporting the walls. Concrete blocks, bricks and mortar all started shifting as she extended a wing to brush Legacies, drawing him inside herself. Without a word, she vanished with him into the shadows ....

.... Reappearing in the Ultima Medical Bay to lay Legacies down on an open bed.

"You again?!" one of the nurses exclaimed. Argent did not wait to see if it was directed at herself or at Legacies, slipping away again into the shadows. It took mere seconds for her to reappear and hover above the crumbling hole.

The doctors were used to metas being warped into the medbay, that's what they were paid for, though the constant arrival of Argent was getting bothersome. Legacies was quickly moved to one of the medical tables and laid out.

"Doctor?"

"This damn suit keeps getting in the way!"

"Hit it with sonics."

A sonic gun was brought up, slowly pushing Legacies away from the body enough that the doctors could get a look at the patient.

"Oh my God... Get some more doctors in here stat before we lose the patient!"

There was a scramble as intercoms called for the various doctors currently on break to head for room 3 to deal with a critical patient.

Saibot didn't even look at Blackheart, but instead moved to pick up his sword where he had dropped it after he woke up, and sheathed it.

In the time that it took Argent to teleport Legacies to the Medbay, and turn, Saibot had completed that, and was half a second from putting a beam of hard light right through Blackheart's left eye, and into his brain.

"You know what...fuck all of you. I was minding my own business when he came and started the shit. But of course, I'm Saibot, the washed up good for nothing. So, do whatever it is you want to do Blackheart, throw me in jail, rip off my head and shit down my neck, or whatever bullshit it is your going to do now. But do yourself a favor, make sure you kill me with that first hit."

Saibot's hand tightened on the hilt of the still sheathed sword, as he floated out of the hole, and started off from the wrecked site, "Because you won't get the chance for a second"

Blackheart relaxed as he saw Saibot wasn't going to go for it. He though he might have had to kill him. In typical Saibot fashion he attempted to grandstand instead.

"Saibot!" Blackheart yelled. "I'm not the one threatening violence. I pulled three people out of a fire today. What about you?"

[Dark Silver]

Saibot stopped in midstide, turned to look at Blackheart, and inside the helmet, smirked slightly.

"I found out where to find the Freak Legion."

That was all he said, as he continued on.

[Cynical Cat]

"Is that so," said Blackheart. "In that case you must have been really glad to have merely gotten off with conscripted service after that robbery."

[LadyTevar]

"Why ... " Lei spoke from within her dragon shape " ... is that so important, Saibot."

The voice was oddly emotionless, sybliant, and cold. The shadows on the ground all shifted in small ways.

[SirNitram]

Gravitas grunted. "Saibot, stop being so goddamn selfish and self-important." He snorted, shaking his head. "You ever consider we came looking because we give a shit? Or is that impossible for people to care about you?"

[Cynical Cat]

"They are criminals. He's traced the Freak Legion through the fence or whoever took delivery of the loot," said Blackheart. "Hero here was there to steal them for himself. Or something close to it."

[Dark Silver]

"You mean the robbery they pulled, that you jailed and blackmailed me with? Oh yeah...I'm really glad I simply got conscripted into this. Now, I can settle a score."

Saibot didn't turn to Gravitas as he spoke, but responded all the same, "You came because Argent got the notion that I was in pain, then saw Legacies and me fighting."

Saibot turned, and in the afternoon light, just barely noticable from the distance, the a portion of the black suit glistened, just near a set of claw marks.

Saibot began to float into the air, leasuirly heading towards the outskirts of even Olde Towne.

"No."

The single word cut the air like a knife, and the shadowdragon swooped down to stop Saibot's progress. "This is not about settling scores, Saibot. Lie to them, lie to yourself, but you cannot lie to me. Your heart is wide open to me."

"You go to die." The voice cracked, a shock of emotion escaping in an explosive wave of Painfearloveworryfearpain before she regained tight control of herself.

[SirNitram]

"Saibot, I can halt your progress with a thought. I'd rather not, there'd be unpleasant side effects." Gravitas kept pace without even changing his posture.

"I came because I felt you two fighting, heard Argent's request, and knew I had to help out. Why? Because whatever else, you are part of us now. Same as Blackheart and his Supertumor." He slid in front of Saibot, arms folded, looking over his glasses. "Now. If this Freak Legion is that bad, we go together, we rough them up, we turn them over to the authorities. We play by the rules. We do not go off gung-ho on our own."

He was halted by both Argent and Gravitas.

Behind the helmet, his eyes narrowed for a moment, before floating back to the ground. He wouldn't hurt Lei...and Gravitas was beyond his ability to stop.

"I wasn't going to die, I was going to give them payback. And it's not your score, there's no reason to involve any of you."
