Garth slowly looked through Blackheart's music collection, found something which seemed interesting, and put down the bottle of whisket long enough to turn on the stereo to put it on.

As the speakers powered up, music came to life,

Brighter than a lucky pen....

The speakers were loud enough that everyone could, of course, hear the music, and Garth stared flabbergasted for a moment, before he popped the CD out.

"What the fuck hero!" he called back, sliding in his selection, "What the hell was that....."

As the disc loaded, a guitar riff with drum accompaniment came from the stereo, similar to the "punk" bands of the early portion of the decade.

Garth walked from the stereo, satisfied by the choice of Breaking Benjamin, and headed over to find a nice place to sit and enjoy the bottle of whiskey and some company.....

By the end of the song, Garth had found a comfy spot on the couch, was shaking his leg and nodding his head with the song, and still drinking on the bottle of whiskey....

'Hey Mom, know how you don't even like to watch Super's news on the T.V. well now I've gone and turned into and even joined up with a team, I got a suit and everything...'

Lei caught the feeling that there was something he was NOT looking forward to doing, but let it slide for now. "So, you did know of them... played with your buddies, right? Blackheart wolfed down a slice of meat lovers and washed it down with what was left of his marguerrita. He was leading by example, which meant sliding down into the zone of warm benevolence. He looked at the loud mouthed, never was, bigot from a third rate bunch of wannabees and tried to picture a team mate. No, it wasn't working. He grabbed a bottle of vodka and poured himself a generous glass while piling a couple more slices of za on a plate. Time to work harder on that.

Thankfully Garth wasn't a telepath. But he picked up on Lei being mischivous, glanced at her and narrowed his eyes a bit, before setting the bottle of whiskey on a near by endtable.

He got up, walked over and grabbed a slice of pizza. Oddly enough, it was a meat lovers. He ate the slice on his way back to his seat, picked up his bottle once again, and let himself sink back into the sofa.

'Gotta play nice here Tobias...after all..you dragged Legacies to this shindig....may as well try to enjoy it.

He looked at Blackheart for a moment, almost sneered at the man, but gave it up in a sigh.

For a moment, he thought back on the years past, set the whiskey down, got up, and walked towards Blackheart. He half forced a smile on his lips, but to be honest, the whiskey already had him feeling nice and warm inside.

Things needed to be said. As such, he set his ring on the countertop as he reached Blackheart, stepped away where it was no longer in each reach, and looked to the man, "We need to talk..." Garth said evenly, looking at the man who was his element leader. "We both got shit we need to air out if we're going to work together."

"Well.. they all were..." Lei pointed out, since there were Red, Green, Blue, Black, Yellow, Pink and the White Guardians. "White Guardian had a sabre, and they all had power rings... remember?"

"Yeah they did... Hey doesn't Saibot have a ring? And a Saber..." Blast finished... Hey that was importent... Why was it importent? Why was the beer gone... No, no, no pay attention.

Avatar started putting the two together as Lei spoke. He remembered the news about that particular group well, and given Saibot's age... it was possible

"Put the two together man" he said as he inhaled a peice of meat lovers pizza. He even threw his head back to swallow, a bit of that animalism coming out again.

Blackheart passed Blast a bottle of rum on his way to his balcony, gesturing for Garth to follow him. He closed the door behind them. "You want to talk, go ahead."

"One of this timeline's Nippontai?" Gravitas asked, eyeing Saibot. "Never would've guessed, myself. Still, aways good to have a veteran do-gooder on the team." Gravitas tapped his forehead to the man.

"Man. I feel all out of place, considering I was with the so-called 'bad guys' back home. I need more wine." He said, pouring another glass. "Anyone else want some?" A glance to Legacies. "You two like wine?"

"We don't like each other" he said after the door was closed. He absently rubbed the faint outline of where the ring had sat. He felt naked without it on him, but if he had it, nine out of ten he'd use it...

Didn't need that.

"In fact, I'd venture to say we hate each other. But we gotta work together, though not by our choice. So if we're gonna make this shit work.. you tell me what your problem is with me. I'll tell you my problem with you. We can work this out like reasonable adults without resorting to trying to one up eachother. That leads to bad bad things on the battle field."

A beer floated up to Blast, Lei clearly reading the intent of his emotions there. Odd to see a shadow-tendril helpfully offering a beer, while Lei herself didn't seem to even notice she was controlling it.

Lei slyly gave Avatar a wink, since he figured it out. Unfortunately, she was suddenly distracted.

A shadow fell over the ring where it lay on the countertop, attempting to grab it. There was a small blue flash, annihilating the shadow tendril and causing Lei to grimace at the backlash. "umm... I need more pizza."

As they thought on that, Lei carefully picked up Saibot's ring, grimacing slightly as it flashed briefly. She quickly transfered it to her jeans pocket without further incident before getting her slice of pizza.

"You're sand in the gears. You think you're entitled to fuck off when you feel like it, do what you want, and that your past somehow entitles you to get all that. And you're a fucking bigot. That covers the major points. I have to weld together a team that the powers that be have assigned me, including your kidnapper girlfriend and little-miss gets of on torture and I don't need a bigot with an attitude problem complicating the mix. Tarot is enough of an additional headache"

"As for hating me, go ahead. I'm not likable. No, that's not quite it. I'm actively unlikable do to super tumour's empathic emissions and I am close to the worst fucking choice for this job because of it. As long as you pull your weight with the team, I can deal."

Lei's eyes widen as the physical contact forced a connection, leaping Blast's pain/sadness over the funeral into her own consciousness. She jerked her arm out of his hand, trying to filter the emotion before it crossed over to Garth. "Bad Idea." she snapped, then took a deep breath, explaining. "I'm sorry about your father... I can feel he meant a lot to you. In fact, you just -made- me feel how much he meant to you when you touched me. Touching me makes it very hard to block you out."

She only hoped that she stopped the emotions before it got to Garth.

Garth took it all in stride, listening to Blackheart's reasons for disliking him.

A smirk formed on his lips and never left as the man spoke, and when he was over with, Garth only nodded.

"Your right...I am a bigot. I hate damn near every one of those Metahumans in there...hell, I even hate you, because of what you are, and what your kind has done. I swore I would kill any of you which crossed the line. Then I crossed it." Garth looked Blackheart right in the eye, the smirk never leaving his lips, "No, my past doesn't earn me the right to fuck all. But incase you haven't kept up, Hero...I'm not one of those anymore. I work best alone now, I don't do teams. The only reason I'm on this, is because otherwise I'll do life without seeing the light of day or a chance at seeing Lei again. Your a big boy, you've seen the records, you know what the fuck happened. Now...tell me, why should you trust me? You know what happened to my team. How do you know the same thing won't happen here?"

If any of them were listening on the otherside, he was sure this would be a lovely shocker, "How do you know I won't kill them all like I did to the Guardians?"

"Because you may be bigot enough to hate your girlfriend, but you won't kill her," said Blackheart.

Kyosuke watched Lei carefully. He saw the shadows move at her command and saw the shadow inside of her. He was not yet sure what to think of her, but he had his suspicions. He had similar suspicions of another person or two but they were much less in his face. No, this one knew and reveled in it.

He watched Blast knock back the alcohol. He imagined he was probably the only one here who wouldn't be drunk by the end of the night. It wasn't that he didn't drink, but rather that he didn't drink much as it lost to much control for him. That and they didn't have sake. He never did aquire a taste for western alcohol. Plum wine, rice wine, sake, they were enough for him. Traditional, comforting.

He wondered at all the people here. Everyone seemed to want to get drunk, to lose control and all their inhibitions. He just didn't seem to understand it. But then again there were many things he didn't understand.

Gravitas closed his eyes as the talk of others dying came as the conversation. The telepath and empath would be table to pick up on it instantly, painful, nasty memories of people.. Some recignizable as such, some far from it.. Gone and known to none but him.

A deep gulp of wine was taken. "This party went to a downer quickly. I can and will sing karaoke." A glance to the Japanese attache'. "And yes, I know it means tone-deaf. I'm the posterboy for it."

Lei stared at Gravitas, his pain far exceeding Blast's. She did not see the who or how, she merely -felt- the pain of it before slamming up mental shields to protect herself from the onslaught.

"... You and Garth need to have a long talk, Gravitas..." she said softly. "You have a lot in common." Like blaming themselves for something they could not stop despite their power. "We need music. Better music... something to dance to."

The shadow tendril formed in front of Kyosuke's face this time, as he was closest to the stereo. The tendril delicately switched off the CD and turned the radio on whatever Blackheart had pre-set.

[Comrade Tortoise]

"If you want, I can sing from HMS Pinafore, The Mikado, and Rent.."he was listing off a few musicals before his hearing started to pick up on a few choice words. Words like "I killed the Guardians" and "I swore I would kill any one of you that crossed the line"

"Oh dear god" Alex said, and cursed his lycanthropy and the little bonus he got to his human hearing because of it.

"Lei, I just heard something that comes as a bit of a shock, and I want you to clarify it for me if you dont mind... Does Saibot er I mean Garth, make a habit out of killing metahumans and did he...did he kill Guardian Force? Because that is what I heard a second ago, and I want to make sure it is not the booze talking. Because both of those would explain a LOT about your lover's behavior..."

He realized of course that the party would die if people heard this, but it was kinda hard to keep things at a whisper

Lei would probably feel concern and a tinge of anger coming from the lycanthrope. He was drunk, so the anger was more subdued than it otherwise would be

Kyosuke turned to Gravitas, a faint trace of a smile registering on his otherwise impassive face.
"Posterboy you may be, but I could have sworn that there were laws against cruel and unusual punishment here in the states."

When the shadow appeared in front of his face he followed it back to its origin. He wasn't shocked. He walked over to her and looked her in the eyes.
"I know what you are demon," he whispered. "The only question is what type you are. And what it is you're doing here?"
