They do sound serious, and they're in emergency readyness*...

They don't have to conquer Tel Aviv, you know...All they have to do, in my opinion, is take 3 km in the Golan and demand negotiation (they want the whole Rama, remember? They have a chance for getting it now)

*he'archut as in ma'arach...Are you sure It's readyness?

Yes, thats the spiritual translation, another way of saying would be(to american readers) DEFCON 2.

Basicly, Syria will be held back simply due to threat of economic anahilation, oh wait, that has never stopped anyone.

They've been demanding Ramat ha'Golan for years...

I hope they're not going to join Lebanon (I have enough relatives in army now :P), but it does seem like a good chance.

At the moment we're trying to keep the war thread clear of discussion. Which is why this discussion was split.

Syria is getting anxious because of two basic truths.

1) America is making noise at Israel to push the IDF fight all the way to Syria. This is not smart for Israel, but it will forward the goals of the two major factions of the American administration at current: The Religious Right seeking to bring about the Apocalypse, and the NeoCons attempting to bring about a New American Century, apparently by having everyone else run out of fighting-age citizens.

2) Iran has to be cajouling them, with Hezbollah as such a fucking failure. I realize that it must be scary as shit in Israel, and I sympathize, as I've been a touch too close to the Troubles a few times. But nearly 2000 rockets fired, and less than fifty dead, they're waging a pretty pathetic war.

One of the big reasons for the lopsided causality rate is the fact that Isreal towns and cities are better perpared for this. Better bomb shelters, better hospitals, defense systems and transportation. Also their hospitals are closer to where poeple are being shot at.

Meanwhile there are no shelters worth the name in Southern Lebanon, few hospitals and longer transportation time to them.

To be fair in Lebanon part of the problem is the IDF bombing out the roads which makes transportation difficult.

Which is what I think Hash is not getting, nevermind that throughout history, bombardment has broken no nation, if Israel folds from a few bombardments from Syria, it'll be fucking pathetic.

Now since Shep isn't on, nor Vympel, does anyone know if Syria got the new SAMs russia sold them? If so, the IAF will have an interesting day.

If we Jews were smart enough to scare, we'd've been smart enough not to set foot in this Arab-infested wasteland in the first place, no?

Don't worry. If Syrian armor couldn't do it in 73, a few straggling troops can't do it now.

Except we can all go and say 'but people are far more materialistic today and don't want to suffer etc. etc.' yet over the years, the same has been said, about the british, about the germans, about the vietnamese, about jews, you know what? every single time they were wrong.

I am sick and tired of hearing that bullshit. You know what? We're maintaining troops all around the world, 92,000 in Europe, 127,000 in Iraq, over 67,000 in Asia, not counting Afghanistan. We're fighting two gurillea war hundreds of miles apart with supply lines that reach for thousands of miles.

We're doing it against an enemy that will torture you to death if they catch you and dump your hamburger like body in front of your friends.

We're doing this completely with volunteers.

And this is the US which is suppose to be full of the most materialistic, sofiest, sheep ever.

The nutcases can take their greatest generation shit and suck it.

These are the people who declare the press enemies and traitors to the cause, think the Liberals are the cause for the failure of their own actions, and get misty eyed at the idea of genocide. They're fucking lunatics who screech and whine and never do any of this shit themselves, because ultimately, the ones afraid to die, too materialistic, and so forth, are them.

One bleated at me how I'm afraid to die. Considering I'm already dying and am at peace with that, I only laughed in her face.

But nearly 2000 rockets fired, and less than fifty dead, they're waging a pretty pathetic war.
Not pathetic at all- They didn't think of smashing the whole country...
They wanted to make us panic, and start a conflict that can ruin Israel's intimidation(right word?) power, or make us start negotiating about Ramat ha'Golan.
Don't worry. If Syrian armor couldn't do it in 73, a few straggling troops can't do it now.
They actually can..I repeat, It's not about totally winning us, it's about making Israel panic and start negotiating.
And we actually gave the Hamas terrorists more territories last year only because they scared us (and during the demonstrations against that stupid move, I remember myself talking about Lebanon and the Hizballah. And people thought I was crazy. haha). And the Hamas are much weaker than the Hizballah.

Faqa, don't forget - we're not a normal country, we're the convergance dudes!!

Mmm, maybe think of it this way- the army in Iraq didn't smash the US army....
But you are still stuck there, and your soldairs keep dying, and you don't feel like you're winning the battle there, right?

Hizballah are not stupid, they see what makes strong western armies lose and implement it.

They want to turn Lebanon into Iraq #2, untill we give them what they want.
