Once again. I terrorize the chatroom! Bwahaha!

As for the chatroom itself. It can get a bit laggy for me, especially if I'm trying to do something else as well. But other than that it's fine.

I'm generally i favour of a chat, but the current software still needs some tweaking I think.

Well, Bats, Ninja and I are in there right now. I don't have a problem with it-- it's running fine-- but I do agree that if it's using up that much resource for enough people, it should be changed.

And we need more people in there! :P

I can't stay in there(but I'd love to log) since it randomly decides to stop updating and instead I have to refresh and restart the page.

It does that fine for me. I haven't been keeping it on for long periods though... I presume it does that when it's dead for long enough.

And I do wish someone would turn off the IRC subsets so I can use / / emphases... :?

Other than the resource usage issue, it runs rock-solid for me, and I HAVE used it for long periods. And trust me, it was dead for most of that time.
Incidentally, the Flash Player update did exatly zilch WRT the performance problem.

Holy titty christ, it keeps disconnecting two differant browsers randomly, without warning, so far all I know I could be typing to nothing for the past 5 minutes, which has happened.

Ds, I'll be sending the Ichat after the 4th for you. It seems many do not like the flashchat so am going to get it off as soon as possible. Cross your fingers and send a lil word up to the Goddess that it won't get "misplaced" in the move this weekend. LOL

This chat is going nowhere fast. Frankly if the level of traffic we've had so far is any indication any dedicated LA chat is a waste of time and resources.

I'd sit in it more, if it weren't for the fact that it...well, kinda sucks.

I'd be up for IRC or AIM myself. Trillian lets me do both with equal ease. I can see the point for a web-based chat, but this particular software seems, well, really bad.

Just a simple suggestion, but I'm given to understand that Ethereal Realms has a viable, low resource (at least end user-wise) consuming web-based chat. I recall when the site was still open to the various 'rooms' housed there, the software was incredibly simple to use, and several other sites implement it, though I'm not sure how easy Martin made it to implement. I'm not a code-monkey, so I really can't tell much about it from the webmaster's standpoint beyond that.

Just a suggestion, anyway.

All that's really needed for an AIM chatroom is someone who's willing to keep the chat window open for long periods (over a few days at a time). XaLEv (God-Archivist here) performs that function for the SDnet chat along with Ace. That way the chat's always open with *someone* in there, and consumes less in the way of resources.

Pretty sure we can find someone here who can do that. After that point, the issue becomes getting people in there. And that, I think, is definitely a problem, if current performance up to date is any indication...

Adam and I often leave our computers on overnight. I'm sure one of us could do it if we opt to use AIM.

That would do it. Trillian, GAIM and whatever usually work as well as ordinary AIM. The main issue then becomes getting people in there...

Well, As Ellie and Batling can tell you, you can pop in with whatever name you want, which can leave people a bit confused, is there no way you could make it so that people have to do the password thing?

Okay, I've had it. For as long as we're keeping the FlashChat somebody else can keep the Valendamned thing open.

I have to admit I can see his point. When there's nobody coming, there's really not much point to keeping it up. If we're going to be serious about having a chat up, we have to keep people attending....

I would attend, but I haven't been able to reach the page for about a week. It's rather annoying. The thing won't even load and I always get "cannot find the page" errors.

I'll be removing the flashchat later today, in anticipation for other software which should be arriving sooner or later.
