One of my primary complaints to DS was CPU usage. An Athlon 3500+ at 2.4GHZ should not have 20% CPU usage from a chat window that has no features to speak off besides being spiffy.

For some reason, it doesn't require passwords....unless you log in as a mod or a Admin

Mind you, it doesn't stay at 100%, it yo-yos up and down between 15-20 and 88-100 or so but it is majorly annoying, as it seriously slows down everything else I'm doing (I thought my internet connection was on the fritz before I noticed the CPU usage).

I just tried seriously using this for the first time, and I have a number of complaints.
First, it eats bandwidth constantly polling the server to see if there is new messages. This is unavoidable in a browser based program (except perhaps with a Java applet which are barf worthy on their own)
It lags like a bitch.
I hate Flash. It is slow and evil. It often doesn't even work the first time I load it. Barf.
Annoying sound effects.
It laaaaags like hell while wasting bandwidth!
Getting visual alerts of new messages apparenty can't be done, you have to check the window. Aaarg.
I think the best solution is to use a client program. Like simply using AIM.
Though a not-browser based chat program would be relativly simply to write, with the beautiful Qt library (I can't say enough good things about the coders at Trolltech), I figure I could whip up a prototype in one day, and have it rather pretty in no more than a week.
But, if you start talking about a non-browser based version, you have to ask yourself why? Why not use an existing service, like AIM or Yahoo?
The only obstacle to that would be getting the server program to run on the server. I kinda doubt they would let us run random binaries on their server.

Getting visual alerts of new messages apparenty can't be done, you have to check the window. Aaarg.
I think the best solution is to use a client program. Like simply using AIM.
Though a not-browser based chat program would be relativly simply to write, with the beautiful Qt library (I can't say enough good things about the coders at Trolltech), I figure I could whip up a prototype in one day, and have it rather pretty in no more than a week.
But, if you start talking about a non-browser based version, you have to ask yourself why? Why not use an existing service, like AIM or Yahoo?
The only obstacle to that would be getting the server program to run on the server. I kinda doubt they would let us run random binaries on their server.

Alright, if the chat solution I've found isn't acceptable, then suggest something that is.
Right now, Flashchat is the most cost effective and easy to use thing we have. You can change most of the layout in the options, and it still allows for logging, bot usage, etc.
If your having Flash problems with CPU usage, I suggest updating your versiopn of Macromedia Flash, because frankly, I don't see why you would have high CPU usage on a machine which is faster than my laptop, and I have no problems with extended use of it.
At anyrate, I put a poll for a reason, I only see four votes, all for it. So, suggestions people. I wouldn't have said make suggestions if I don't intend to listen to them.
