No, New Zealand calls it soccer too, I've heard.

Because they call rugby football.

I've heard some Aussies call it soccer but that was up around Darwin.

No.

And also:

It has much more of a right to be called Football. The foot actually interacts with the ball for the vast majority of play. Rather than the other sport(s) called Football where the main aim is to pick up and carry the ball... much like Rugby. But in armour.

I heard it from some bloke in a pub
So even the grand British Empire has succumbed to conformity and calls it Football now. Oh how the mighty have fallen...

Why? It's only once in 4 years when I'm legally allowed to be a caveman infront of my TV.

Topic moved upon request.

Why? Germany during soccer world cup is bad enough. The thing happening here? Pandemonium squared. You can't go anywhere without some World Cup-related merchandise or other being on display, 70% of the TV program are soccer-related, and that without the thing even having started...

My hope is... Whoever wins, it had better not be bloody Brazil, that bloody country has won too many times for my tastes.

That said, I hope that the events of 1966 repeat themselves...

Oh great Valen please no. Anything but a German victory. Things are bad enough as it is.

I was referring to B4's post. Sorry.
And frankly I don't care who wins as long as it isn't Germany. I'd find it hilarious if it were some tiny country nobody ever heard of but that's it. Germany in World Cup mode is bad enough. Germany in World Cup here mode is hell. Germany in 'We WON the World Cup' mode? May Valen have mercy on our souls.

Yes, at least to my knowledge, and that would be almost as good. Around here, the US are considered a complete and utter nonentity where soccer is concerned.

Good for you I think. What I wanted to get across was that the US winning the World Cup would be almost (possibly more so) as unexpected as some nobody ever heard of it country doing it.
