"heh... Lead on Tundar of the Vuthagix clan.." she teased, walking through the crowds and ignoring all the turned heads and second looks sent her way by lustful young men. Jernei was used to those reactions from humans, even got the occassional elf to give her an appreciated once-over. She was just simply exotically attractive.

Pity she knew it, dressed to emphasis it, and occassionally gave into the urge to tease one of the poor humans.

They entered the popular Inn called the Yawning Portal, which anyone who makes a DC 20 Knowledge (Local: Waterdeep check, or a bardic/lore master/harper knowledge check of the same DC, will know has a shaft leading to the underdark in the basement. It is run by a gruff retired warrior by the name of Durnan, and due to it’s eclectic clientele, the guards do not give the group a second thought as they enter the door.

Across the common room, Blackclaw sees his merchant. A well kept rust-colored Kobald named Ireck. One of the more intelligent and personable of his species, he did a good job as a merchant, trafficking in the adamantine that his tribe mined from their domain. He also dealt in various merchandise on the side, but never stolen and in small volumes. Of course, no one knew he was a Kobald who couldnt detect magic or see through illusions. To the rest of the people in the Inn and city proper he was known as Korgath of the Vuthagix clan, a gold dwarf for all appearances.

He was going over his books with a beaming smile. Still bringing in a profit, not that he had much overhead costs. He didn’t need a storefront so he simply rented a room in the inn on a permanent basis. Durnan was pleased with arrangement because the little Kobald was a good tenant and helped bring in business, in return he gave the little creature a discount on rent.

Ireck looked across the common room and his eyes lit up. The Dwarf Disguise was used enough that he knew to recognize it, and a visit from Boss was always cause for celebration. However, he had important matters that could not risk prying eyes or ears that he had to discuss. Matters pertaining to the Fundare

"Cousin." Blackclaw clasped hands with the other 'dwarf'. "I trust you have news from home, on where the theives went." This wasn't suspicious, oddly enough. Dwarves were nearly as miserly and wealth-centered as Kobolds, and rigorously lawful. That, Blackclaw considered, was their one saving grace.

"Indeed I do cousin. The thief was clever, he managed to only trigger the one tracing spell, probably because it does not exist in the libraries of magical colleges and he didnt know he needed to counter it. He is on the edge of the high forest." He looks around, making sure no one is listening directly.

"There is a chance the he is going after the others. I have sent word to a friend of mine, a frequent patron of my other line of business. He will meet you there, but probably not until after the thief has been dealt with."

"Whatever spell you used to trace him, I dont know it" Vincent said. "Is there a way with the spell you used to reach the exact location?"

The "dwarf" responded

"yes. Take this gem, and get it outside the wards of the city' Ireck said

He placed the germ In Blackclaw's hand

"Once you get out, speak the command word. You know what it is"

OOC note: Just think of something really. I would expect your tribe to have command words for various things standardized with the way I envison Blackclaw running things...

"Thats' good news indeed... and you really must tell come by and visit sometime, Korgath." Jernei said conversationally. Once again, there was more layers to this conversation that seemed apparent. "If you can get away, perhaps bringing some of your wares so I and my ... clan ... can see what you have to offer?"

The look the disguised kobold gave her was even more respectful than what he'd shown to his 'cousin' as he agreed.

(DM pushes the fast forward button)

After teleporting to the approximate location of the thief, you find him laying dead in a pool of his own blood within the high forest. Anyone who makes a DC 44 listen check will hear a twig snapping in the bushes ahead, and anyone who makes a DC 37 spot check will see several dark figures in the woods.

Roll initiative. If you fail the spot check or listen check, you are to be considered flat footed if such a condition can apply to you

Jernei must have been distracted when she saw the thief's body, for it wasn't the sound that alerted her, but the movement in the bushes. "Trouble in the trees, Blackclaw..." she warned, one hand grapping her trident from the quick-release holder on her back, spinning it expertly into position.

Just so everyone knows, I am using standard rules for crits. Normally in our house games SB and I dont both rerolling for them. But in this game, we will be.

It was obvious they had been waiting for you. Those who see them notice two shrouded figures wielding short swords, and a man in heavy plate concealed by vegitation and spell in the bushes. Another one is father back, he looks like a magic-user and is armed with a staff. These are just on the other side of the clearing roughly 100 feet away. However, past them are two figures cloaked in darkness, roughtly 280 feet away through the relatively thin healthy, regularly burned forest (no social commentary about forestry policy for the last...80 someodd years at all)

Arrows begin to fly. They whistle down from the heavens like tiny deadly lances. One set speeds toward the monk and three pierce his flesh. One hits him in the left inner thigh (21 damage) another affixes itself in his abdomen (20 damage) the third intrudes upon the left side of his abdominal cavity (18 damage) and the last one would have lodged itself in his throat, but he managed to swat it away

59 damage

The other four target the vincent who's contingency took effect the moment before the arrows hit. A collumn of wind large enough to shield the party from further archer attacks if they stayed in their current locations was erected. The arrows targeting him were deflected upward. Luckily, because they all would have lodged themselves in his chest.

Initiative order

Jernei winced as she saw the arrows flying towards the monks. "Blackclaw, the archers. I'll take the rest," she barked with a grin as she charged the closer swordsmen, trusting her magic-given evasion and damage resistance to take care of any arrows that might head her way.

She crossed the distance unnaturally fast (move 80, charge 160), her trident spinning out and slashing at one of the two armed with shortswords, her trident giving her a slight bonus to reach.

The assassin, who upon closer inspection is wearing black leather armor and reaks of evil tries to move out of the way byt the magically enhanced trident pierces his armor and flesh, driving itself betwixt several of his ribs causing blood to gush forth like much water. In addition to this, the blade flashed white transfering the holy power of the Gods of good directly into his wicked flesh and burning his pectoral muscles.

Tormenta looked at the arrow in his leg grimaced at the pain before launching himself at the second swordsman his monk speed allowed him to close the distance incredibly quickly. He immediately began to pummel viciously with a series of punches kicks and even a forceful head butt directly to the man’s face.

Flurry of blows

The man did not enjoy being treated like that at all. he did his besat to deflect the monk's attacks but the slimy little bastard was just too fast for him. He was battered, bruised and beaten, but he still managed to summon the raw hatred to stand.

Blackclaw studied the situation and carefully moved to a defensive posture. Then he blinked out of existance.

He reappeared within three feet of the enemy caster, still in the defensive posture. "Go on." Said the little kobold. "Make my day."

The assassins were not overly fond of being attacked like this. The first one, who was being attacked by Jernei gingerly sidestepped her trident (so as not to provoke an attack of opportunity) and used his superhuman (and magically enhanced) speed lash into her with his two short swords. She managed to deflect his first strike, as well as the fourth, fifth and sixth. But the second and third strikes lash across her abdoman causing much blood loss and the evil power stored in the blade bites into her hard.

38 damage

The other assassin also pressed the attack with both weapons, wanting to bring the monk down before he could do further damage.

The first stike bit deep directly intoTormenta's chest(crit again) and the weapon remains in tact. The second strike fails to taste flesh, as does the third. His other weapon on the other hand bites into his other thigh as the assassin lunges forward. The other weapon too remained in tact

66 damage total

The enemy mage only smiled and got into a defensive stance himself. He cast upon the defensive and thus did not endanger himself in the casting of spells. He wove his hands in an intricate pattern, one granted not by years of study but wby what seemed to be instintual skill and tried to take over Blackclaw's mind.

Unfortunatly for him, blackclaw's mind proved strangely resilient. Almost as if he had mentally given the shadow adept the finger. (he rolled a crit on a DC 34 will save)

Vincent was in top fighting form. His wind wall protected him from enemy arrows while he wove his magics. The most important thing he could do then was to take down the enemy cleric so that he could not heal his companions. he could see the man's evil pulse around him and knew him immediatly for a cleric of Shar, which only fueled his hatred.

he had the ability thanks to a ring to cast an abnormally large number of his most powerful spells, and he used it. His hands wove in intricate patterns as his voice intoned words of power. The ground seemed to shake as small objects broke free from Toril's gravitational pull around him. And time stopped

His hands wove again, casting the same spell three times in quick succession. Small burning globes started to appear right behind the enemy cleric, and also the assassins. With his companions just outside the blast radius. He cast another spell This time sheathing himself in a field of magical energy which would reflect incoming spells back on their caster, and in the last moments of the spell, the fact that these were all sharans hit him like a ton of bricks. That sorcerer was a shadow adept and their powers of deception were legendary among spellcasters

(Anyone who can make a DC 25 Knowledge arcana check will get the info from me over PM, just incorporate the roll into your post when you make it)

The moment the Timestop spell ended the worlds of the priest and the assassins became fire. The cleric was blindsided by the spell and took it full force. His skin burned and the air was rank with the smell of burning flesh. The assassins on the other hand managed to dive out of the way and avoid the effects of the spell completely. Still, the priest was still standing and too that opportune moment to utter a healing spell. Still, it could not repair all the damage that VIncent had done, even as the healing magics of Shar the source of all evil washed over him he was still in excruciating pain.

(45d6 damage from 3 delayed blast fireballs, failed all saves 181 damage. healed 150 by Heal spell, down 31)

However, that was not all he could do, he moved into a flanking position behind the monk and prepared to use the massive flail he had in his hand to knock the fear of SHar into him.

End of Round 1

Start Round 2

One of the archers focuses on the kobald who seemed to be threatening their mage. Four arrows lanced out from their bows and all four of them hit, the only saving grace was the minorprotection offered by his platinum armor. Small consolation as arrows burried themselves in his abdomen, shoulders and both kneecaps

77 damage total

The other archer continued focussing on the monk. The most mobile of the bunch.

Only one of the arrows found their mark though, stabbing into his stomach. The other one which was on-target was swatted away by the nimble monk's foot

(21 damage)

Jernei snarled as the swords bit into her, but they were more a nuisance than anything serious at this point. However, unless she took at least one of these warriors down quick, the monk may not be as lucky. A side part of her mind noted the cleric was of Shar, and that the guards she fought were also wearing Sharan symbols. There was a good chance the cleric wasn't really there, but was merely a well-crafted illusion. But that was for later.

Now that she was in melee range, the full force of her attacks was apparant. The trident slashed, stabbed, spun and slashed again, Jernei trying to make each attack count on the swordsman in front of her. If she was lucky, she wouldn't have to resort to her most powerful attacks.

The assassin’s blade cut through the soft shirt Tormenta was wearing as it bit into his chest revealing a complex set of tattoos, however the damage almost immediately healed as he focused his energies to preserve his body {wholeness of body +50 hp}. The monk then continued his high speed onslaught against the man, he began by attempting to strike a known bundle of nerves to disable his opponent.

"Way wrong move." Blackclaw replied to the mage, ignoring the arrows. THe wounds were already starting to shut.

With a level of mastery few humans ever attained, the tiny dragonwrought became a blender. With a sword far too big for him, he began raining blows down on the man with a precision and fierocity rarely seen. He held no defensive stance at all, but instead tore into his opponent with the ferocity of a Dragon.

Only one trident strike manages to hit the bastard, causing him to yelp in pain as it cut into his flesh and holy energy tore him apart internally

Clarification: The mage is a shadow adept, not the cleric

After taking a beating from the monk, the assassin was barly clinging to life, but he was not stunned. Thankfully for him.

The assassin engaging Jernei was not a happy individual at this point. She was more of a nuisance than anything. Until an idea struck him.

He stepped back, and slipped into a defensive position. he muttered a few words and disappeared, reappearing a second later next to Vincent.

The second one saw his chance. With the cleric on the Monk's other side he would be less able to defend himself. The moment the monk's head turned to keep track of the cleric he struck, shoving his short swords up through the monk's stomach and under his ribs. He got really close, and kissing him on the cheak ever so gently as the blades slipped into his flesh.

(130 damage total)

The shadow adept was, of course, not really dead. He looked on at the battle and chuckled before he tried once again to overtake the warrior's mind

(Martin, make another will save of the same DC as before, DOminate monster as usual)

Vincent lookee over and saw an assassin bearing down on him. This was not good. He slipped into a defensive stance so as not to endanger himself . He had one shot at this, and it had better work. He muttered an obscenely fast prayer to mystra that she curse and strike down his enemy, and reached out and touched the assassin in one swift motion. He could see the bastard weaken, it worked. He would be less able to resist the spell which was to come. The next spell was cast at normal speed, slowing him down just slightly with the rest of his movements.

He called upon a power which was almost evil, and usually was considering its use. WHen the spell was done, he pointed his finger at the assassin and his soul was literally kicked out of his body. The assasssin collapsed to the ground like a sack of potatos

The cleric noticed the assassin engaged with the monk was in trouble. He circled around the monk and cautiously (so as not to provoke an attack of opportunity) whispered a prayer to his dread-godess and touched his companion, who's wounds healed up nearly completely.

(he has 155 HP now)

End of round 2

start round 3

The archers focused both of ther attention on Jernie, noticing their wizardly companion casting a spell at him which they recognized. They didnt want him to be damaged.

Both of them pulled a black arrow from their quivers and knocked it to their bows. (32 damage, and make two DC 20 fort saves or you die)
