Oh, and just so we're clear...

Gingerbeer - carbonated drink flavored with ginger, lemon and sugar. Use to be made from a plant that made it alcoholic, it's now made with yeast and is fairly non-alcoholic.

Cordial - a fruit drink, non-alcoholic

Shandy - either of the above two mixed with a beer or ale. Commonly Shandy is a mix of a fruit drink(lemonade) or soft drink.

Floats work best with Root Beer, that's probably why you don't know about floats as Root Beer isn't very prevalent. So if you can get your hands on Root Beer (A&W if you have it there) try it. I can let it go if you've tried it and don't like it. But not trying it, that's less excusable.
