He took a step back, the malice seemed to pour off of of Saibot, as he glared at the technicians.
"Garth...," Lei finally spoke as the agents held her in the cuffs. "... Trust has to start somewhere." She did her best not to let her fear escape as she turned her head to stare at Tarot. "I trust they'll learn the truth." Her eyes flicker back to Garth, softening, trying to make a joke as the lab techs readied the collar. "Besides... we have a date, right?"

Then the collar was attached, and her eyes showed the whites as the needle punctured into the back of her neck. A wave of pain shot out, making the techs and lesser agents grab the back of their necks ... before it was all shut down.

She staggered as the drug took effect, literally asleep on her feet, forcing the agents to grab her arms to prevent her from face-planting.

"........... garth..." a whisper, perhaps too low for anyone to hear. " ....... trust......"

Trust.

She was telling him to trust them. As much as he didn't want to, as much as he hated Ultimas for forcing him to do all this, he looked to her, and nodded.

Even as he could see the vacant look in her eyes, as the drugs worked on her system, he would do as she asked, because anything less would defile what they shared.

"I'll be in the infirmary..."

With that, Saibot moved past Tarot, intentionally not moving around the man as his right shoulder collided with the man's left, and he moved to goto the infirmary.

Tarot smirked as the prisoner was dragged away.
"Yes, Agent, I think under the circumstances it would be wise for you to follow that bit of advise. Now if you'll excuse me, I have other matters to attend to. I expect that you'll be in the briefing room after you are released from medical.

Tarot's hand shot out and grabbed Saibot's shoulder, gripping it, as he collided with him. He leaned over and whispered by his ear.
"And for future reference, threatening someone who knows when you're bluffing and what is the most enjoyable method of snuffing out your brief and meaningless life, is not the most prudent method of increasing your longevity.

"I do not require your fear, though that will come in time. I do not require your respect, though you will give it. I require your obediance, and I will have it. Your vaunted enemies of old are as meaningless to me as you are. Now report to medical..."

Tarot began walking again, following the guards dragging Argent to the elevator. He stepped into the elevator as the doors slid closed. The cab descended below ground, deep under the ground floor of Ultima.

The guards hauled her out of the elevator when it opened again, pulling her into a waiting interrogation room. There were the beginnings of bruises forming on her arms from where the guards had to drag her and hold her up at points.

She was more or less dropped unceremoniously into a chair in the center of the room. The cuffs on her wrists were joined by a set of shackles built into the chair, constraining her arms and legs in place.

Tarot walked up behind her, smirking as he watched her drugged up head slump forward in her barely concious state. He reached down and slowly pulled the injector needle from her brain stem. A trickle of blood flowed from the puncture wound, trailing down the back of her neck.

A few minutes later the drugs would wear off. The ambient lights dimmed and a set of spotlights burst to life, blinding intensity. Tarot stood just outside of the light's radius.

"Miss Zan, how good of you to join us."

Light. BRIGHT light. Groggily Lei ducked her head, trying to hide from the brightness, her irisless eyes having far less protection than the average person to such things.
"Miss Zan, how good of you to join us."
That jerked her head up, instinctively trying to 'feel' for where the person was... and wincing from a sharp pain in her head at the effort. "... ow...."

Bright lights. Cuffed and chained to a chair. No emotions anywhere ... well that she might be able to handle. She swallowed, trying to wet her mouth before speaking softly. "Tarot..? ... my eyes can't deal with this much light. It's not needed... I'm going to answer your questions truthfully either way."

Trust, cooperate, respect his authority she reminded herself. He will appreciate that.. he wants that. Give him what he wants, and this will end quickly. It was a mantra in her head, under the forced calm of the eletrodes.

The lights dimmed to a more tolerable level. Tarot's voice echoed from the dark.
"Who hired you for this job? Who are they, what do they want? What are their powers... and more importantly... where are they?"

"Who hired you for this job? Who are they, what do they want? What are their powers... and more importantly... where are they?"
The dimmed lights helped, and she was able to raise her head and look in the direction of his voice. No lies, just the truth to best of her knowledge.

"Abaddon approached Ember for the job. Who is over him, I'm not sure. I never spoke to anyone but Abaddon and Hazard." Argent answered truthfully. "If Ember spoke to anyone else, she never told me. I know of Abaddon; Hazard, whose one lucky bastard; Demise, who uses eye contact to kill. There was someone else, I overheard someone in the hallways mention something about an astronomer, but that's it."

The next question was harder. "I don't know what they want. Ember and I were told to get a few metas together and crash the rally. When the heros responded, Ember and I were to attempt to capture them." Argent winced a little, her head starting to ache a little from emotional feedback as the electrodes tried to regulate her sudden guilt. "The crocodile man ... I focused on him first .. for what he did to Ember. I teleported him to a medical room... where people were waiting to take him." it was getting harder to talk, the pain in her head getting stronger. "I can't tell you where it is. They took me in blindfolded, and it took a couple hours to get there, but I can't say if that's because it's that far away, or they just took a scenic route. It's big. No windows inside that I saw. Maybe underground, partially..." she shook her head, wishing she could say more. "I'm sorry, I know that's useless to you. I can teleport back there, anywhere in the building now that I've been inside it, but I could be standing on top of it and not know it."

"I don't know what happened with me and Gar... Saibot." she swallowed, her hands attempting to go to her head to rub at the headache. "... I sent him into a frenzy of lust during the battle to catch him... but -something- changed." She paused, looking straight towards where she guessed Tarot might be standing. "He turned it back on me, maybe. I don't know... but whatever's connecting us now is beyond anything I've ever felt. I couldn't duplicate this mess of emotions if I tried." And I don't want to, she added silently.

Another pause, as she winced and again attempted to rub her head. "... is this thing... supposed to hurt like this?" she asked plantively.
The electrodes were doing their job, disrupting her power and sending it back along the neural pathways a normal brain used for dealing with stress and frustration. Unfortunately, Lei didn't use those pathways normally. From a young age, she'd been using her power to deal with her own emotions, locking them away until she could expel them, often resulting in flocks of dead pigeons as the helpless birds were subjected to human emotions. The feedback was getting constricted as it tried to force its way through those unused neurons. The result would be the mother of all migraines.

"The croc... wasn't in the medbay when I brought Saibot and Ember in...." she continued, although she was once again wincing from the light, already seeing spots and starbursts. "Ember... I took her to Hawaii... she loved the volcanos there ... please leave her there? ... but Saibot had freed himself... of me.. of them.. when I got back...." She swayed in the chair, lowering her head as the first wave of nausea from the migraine hit. "...... I think....... I'm going to be sick........."

Shark Bait wrote:“Well then,” Seven began in a slow almost creepy voice “given the fact that I am standing up and pointing a rather sharp object at you we can definitely support my hypothesis that I am not dead. Wouldn’t you agree? Now how about we all calm down before someone gets hurt and cries, and keep in mind I don’t have tear ducts.” With that Seven carefully worked the spike into his clenched right hand and offered out his left to the doctor, “Now hows about we find me a web cam or something cause I’d really like to see.”
The doc kept staring coss-eyed at the very large spike hanging precariously close to his face. He was giving himself a headache staring at it so hard. Sweat dotted his forehead and upper lip.
"If y-you're n-not dead... t-then what are you?"

------------------

Tarot's eyes narrowed.
"It only hurts when you struggle. Cease your attempts to use your power and remain calm and you will be fine."

Tarot stared at her, or possibly through her. With no eyes to look at it was hard to judge exactly what he was doing. Or thinking.

"Miss Zan, your information has been, how shall we say, less then useful. You have kidnapped an agent of this bureau and tainted the mind of another. What your full connection is with Agent Saibot is at the moment is... muddy, shall we say.

"In the interest of retrieving our kidnapped senator I'm going to allow you to assist us in this endevor.

"The nanites injected into you will die within a few hours time. At which point you are going to join the group to teleport them. Since you are unable to provide me with an exact physical location you are going to be rewarded by being thrown back into the fire that you assisted in creating.

"After I leave you will be transported to our medical facility where you will recieve treatment. In approximatly two hours you will be escorted to a briefing room where you will join with the others."

Tarot turned to leave, starting to walk towards the door. He stopped in mid-step and glanced over his shoulder at Argent.
"Your plan to run will not work by the way. It worked in only approximatly seven percent of your attempts. I wouldn't suggest it. The results are messy."

The door slid open as he approached it. As he stepped through the pair of guards came through, guns drawn.
"Take her to medical, clear her through the doctors then escort her to briefing room delta."

One of the guards began to unshackle Argent from the chair, though the cuffs remained for the moment. The inhibitor needle was not reinserted. Instead it was left dangling behind her, tapping a rythmic reminder of her choices as she walked.

When she left the room Tarot was gone. The elevator at the end of the hall stood open, waiting.

"... I wasnt' using my powers....." she muttered as he left, swallowing back the nausea she was feeling and wishing for a strong pain pill. She let the guards escort her to the infirmary, hoping that Saibot would be close enough for her to talk to.

Of course, if Tarot thought he was tainted, that chance was low. The burst of depression at the thought was followed by a wave of pain in her head. "Daammmitt.... make it stop," she muttered, once again trying to lift her cuffed hands to her head to rub the pain away. Maybe the inhibator needle wasn't that bad, at least it hadn't hurt like this thing on her head did!

Legacies sat in Mark's mind. The two of them had been discussing their options as best they could since they'd been in the medlab.

"You're certain this will work?"
It is not like we have much of a choice. A piece of each of us is... missing... from our fight with Abaddon.
"So, what will we become?"
I am not entirely certain, it has only been done a few times and I can't recall the results.
"Alright, let's do this then."
Very well.

As the doctors finished stabilizing their patient he began to twitch and hemorage, almost jumping off of the table. The suit quickly launched itself out, restraining all of the humans in the room to keep them from interfering.

The hemorages stopped and Mark lay still, the suit wrapped itself around him once again, pulling out the equipment that had been monitering him. The head turned to look at the doctors.

"Do not worry, we have succeeded."

Legacies slowly got to his feet and limped towards the door. There was still fighting to do.

Gravitas had gotten as far as he could. This was the problem; following any particular gravitic thread was easy, but guessing and moving through crowded areas gave a throbbing headache. But it didn't matter much now. The building before him was definately it. He recignized a few of the threads from the strange dragon-lady, and Abaddon. He carefully powered down his M-R node, noted where he was, and walked away.

He needed to recharge. Then he'd be ready for whatever was inside. He just hoped whatever was inside wasn't as resilient as Abaddon.

Blast sat in the lobby distracted and disaccoated from well... everything. Something had happened after he fired that blast, after... fuck he had practically birthed a new sun right in the middle of the fucking city! Hope he didn't have to do that to often...

He hadn't noticed at first as his body felt so drained like he had ran for miles, something else that was new, but now the world felt... different. He felt streams of energy rushing about him, in the walls, under the floor, in the ceiling. Felt packets of energy rushing by in cars on the street outside. Felt the generators of the building so far from him... If he closed his eyes and concenrated he could see them, glowing strands and shapes of power that he could almost touch.

It wasn't the vague sense he had used before when seeking new power sources, this was different. What to do about it? Tell or not?

They were as much in the dark on the nature of his powers as he was. He had no idea what his upper limits were, but so far nothing he had done felt life threatening or injurious. It was like working a set of muscles almost. If he told, the data could be helpful in determining a pattern. He trusted Blackheart, the man had been honest with him, but then there was Tarot.

Tarot was a REMF, Rear Escalon MotherFucker, a pharse he wasn't suppose to know his father used, and a mean, self centered one at that. He clearly considered most of the team to be tools to be used until they broke or he found better ones. Not good news for the tools, that being him. He closed his eyes and watched idlely the streams and rivers of energy flowing through the building as he thought. Better to keep secrets for now. Anything may become an advantage in time, that meant telling noone. A qoute from Ben Franklin whispered across his mind "Three may keep a secret if Two are dead."

Yes, best to keep quiet on this for now and wait.

Argent was processed through medical. Her power dampeners were deactivated and removed during the physical. A small series of injections was administered to remove the nanites in her system. A short while later she was released from medical after being given a strong painkiller for her headache.

The agents waiting for her escorted her to the briefing room where she was left.

----------------

After a little more coaxing, Seven finally managed to get the frightened man to cooperate. He was taken to medical, then after being told they couldn't help him, he was taken to one of the open lab rooms. A set of various techs, ranging from motor pool mechanics to computer geeks to a cybernetics expert were brought in to try to repair him.

The systems, in some cases, were out of their league entirely and they had no way to do more then basic repairs. They managed to patch his optic connectors back together and reset some of his systems that were reporting error codes. But that was about it. Either he'd have to do the rest or find someone who could. The exterior synth-flesh was a lost cause. Other then a new set of clothes to cover up what they could he was stuck that way until he could do something else with it. After the repairs that could be preformed he was released to attend the briefing.

------------------

Tarot had finished interrogating Hazard, obtaining a bit more information then Argent had to offer. Satisfied with the results he released the prisoner into the tender care of his agents. He would be processed into Gramercy Island within the next few days.

------------------

After everyone was released and assembled Tarot entered the briefing room. He dimmed the lights as he closed the door behind him.

As he walked to the front of the room. He ascended the stage to the podium. As he stood before it a odd sensation passed over the more sensative people in the room. It was as if they were cut off from the outside world. They could feel those in the room, but outside of it nothing.

"I see that for the most part we're all here. Lets begin.

"Thanks to intelligence obtained from Hazard after his capture we've got a good location as to where the senator is being held."

A map appeared on the screen behind him displaying a section of the old New York ruins. The map enlarged showing a clearer cross-section of streets around the area in question.

"This building is part of the ruins surrounding Millenium City. The building is just the top level. According to our intel there is extensive redesign of the lower levels. Therefore we're not able to provide accurate data as to what is down there. At least a few cells to hold kidnapped victims as well as some sort of medical facility. An unknown number of operatives are working in there for a central leader who is known simply as the Astronomer. We have no more data on him nor his powers.

"We have reason to believe that our operative Avatar is being held there along with the Senator and possibly others. We'll need to rescue them as our first priority."

"You all have been involved in a hard battle today already so we won't be assaulting the compound today. Instead we're going to go in as a recon mission to gather more intel. After today none of you are in shape enough to deal with this threat headon without more intel. This is a volunteer only operation. You are not required to participate. Except for one case.

"Everyone, meet Argent. Agent Saibot already has... She worked for the individual responsible for the senator's kidnapping. So she has gracefully volunteered to assist us in this endevour. Her capability to teleport multiple people will prove valuable to this op. She's going to take the team directly to the place.

"Any questions before we figure out who's going?"

Argent had been brought straight to the meeting from medical, without a chance to even find Saibot, much less tell him what was going on before the meeting started.

Seated beside Saibot, she carefully 'read' the room, testing the feelings of the others seated around. The only one she tried not to read that deeply was Tarot: his emotions were under such tight control it was unnatural.

Tarot nodded to the other two.
"If possible. The main objective here is not to be caught, we don't want them to have that firm of knowledge that we're after them. Though chances are with this guy he already does. But if hostage rescue is viable then by all means do it but for the recon job stealth is priority."

Saibot glared at Tarot the entire time, from beneath the safety of his helmet. No one could tell what the look on his face was, but Lei could tell undoubtedly, of his anger at the man.

"Count me in...if Argent goes, I go." he said matter of factly. The techs in the med bay could find nothing wrong with him, aside from some bruising still on his ribs. So he was certain he could get this done.

Argent said nothing to Saibot, simply sending a private wave of thanks/love/support to him. Later, she would tell him what she sensed from Tarot... as well as tell Blackheart and Legacies, the other two she knew best. All she said aloud was "When do you wish to leave, Blackheart?"
