As soon as everyone had signed on the dotted line they were assembled into a briefing room. The room was large enough to accomodate at least fifty people, a space that they took up only a small fraction of. A raised stage was at the front, a large projection screen hanging at the rear along with a single podium.
When everyone was seated the door at the back of the room opened once more to admit a single individual. Agent Tarot walked to the front of the room, giving a nod towards Blackheart. He was dressed in a typical fed suit with black mirrorshades dispite the darkness. He appeared to be young, in his 20's yet his short cropped hair was silved and greyed with age. As he moved after-images of him moved behind, a disconcerting sight giving the impression of him not being quite all there.
"Agent Blackheart," came Tarot's voice. It was distorted slightly as if it were echoing off of itself.
He took his position at the podium as the lights dimmed. A hidden projector came to life, flashing a picture of Senator Sherman up on the screen.
"Alright everyone, listen up. I understand that most of you are rather new to the Bureau. Welcome aboard. As of now you all are under the command of Agent Blackheart, whom I'm sure you all know. Your designation is now Mirage Team. You'll recieve your initial issue and medical later. Right now we need to deal with the business at hand.
"The man you see on the screen is Senator John Sherman. He was kidnapped yesterday for an unknown reason. As of yet no demands for ransom or otherwise have appeared to either us or the media.
"The attack went down at a ceremony unveiling a new memorial. During his speech a group attacked with the stated desire to kill the Senator. The leader of this group was a meta by the name of Dynamo. Agent Blackheart will be able to brief you on the specifics of Dynamo's powers. Dynamo himself attempted to make a speech on his political position before being cut off. A single rifle round was fired into the podium. The round was fired by Hazard. It is unknown to date exactly what Hazard is as we've never seen any proof of any powers. Hazard is an up and coming mercenary who is worth big dollars. Whoever hired him has large financial backing. We can verify this by images captured of others on his team during the assault."
The image changed as Tarot was talking, showing each person as they were discussed. A new image appeared, a split screen showing two more men. One was a slim man, dressed stylishly in a three-piece italian suit that was light grey in color. A tasteful red tie off-set the monotone suit. A pair of slim expensive sunglasses completed the look. His hair was immacuately cut and styled. The other man was almost a mirror opposite of the first. His hair was a long and messy, his face in desperate need of an aquantiance with a razor. He wore a simple pair of jeans and a t-shirt.
"These two men are also heavy-hitters. The one on the left is Abaddon, the other goes by the name of Demise. Again, Blackheart has their bios. Each of these men are expensive in their own right, to get them together means heavy backing from somewhere.
"The Ultima Bureau arrived on scene at which point the two groups seemingly combined forces against a mutal enemy. This went on to a standstill at which point both groups suddenly pulled out, taking the unconcious senator with them. Since the body was taken and not immediatly killed we believe that it is Hazard's group who took the senator.
"We, in this case, honestly don't have much to go on. We've got every possible agent scouring the streets, telepaths scanning and everything else we can think of. I, myself, only get blurry visions of the future. Identifying where he is from them is almost impossible.
"We do, however, feel we might have something thats related. Over the last three weeks we've recovered the bodies of a few of our own agents, as well as several independents. I say bodies as they were all dead. They were all tortured and an autopsy reveals that they were all missing their hearts. This in itself stands out as odd since none of the bodies exhibited any signs of recent surgery or cutting to open up the chests to remove it.
"This has, for obvious reasons, been kept from the media. We have reason to believe that these are connected. Are there any questions?"

Mark spoke up. "What makes you think missing indie hearts and our missing senator have a connection?"

"A few reasons. One, post-mortem readings of the bodies have revealed their last moments to appear in a similar place. This in itself does not connect the events in any significant way. The connection comes when I looked into the future. It was hazy in regard to the senator. What I could see was for the most part did not reveal anything significant. The senator's body did not move in my sight though whether he was sleeping, unconcious or dead could not be determined.
"What was revealed, however is that the designs on the visable walls and floor appeared similar to that of those residual memories retrieved from the bodies. We believe that the senator might be in the same place as the others, or perhaps in a similar location nearby."

A gloved hand groped carefully at the edge of the roof; fingers tightened and Anderson, very gently and carefully, pulled himself up.
Stepping noiselessly on soft shoes, he crouched behind the cloaked figure before him, and whispered: "Boo."

Mark paused and shook his head, things had changed a lot in 20 years. "So we're basing this information on one meta's ability to look into the future? And how accurate have your predictions been?"

Niner had felt the man sneaking up on him. It was very hard to sneak up on a telepath, in particular, one who was also a minor precog. As soon as the word boo left the mans mouth, Niners tail snapped out and hit the guy in the forehead. Not very hard, just enough to give him a good thump.

"What's more", Saibot spoke up with that trademark deep and threatening voice, "what are we suppossed to do about all of this? "

"Tarot's calls are usually accurate. This is guy is mystic," said Blackheart. "Or a head case who thinks he's a mystic. With Demise on the payroll and with us having no team psychic. Fun."
"It breaks down like this: Dynamo shoots lightning, nasty but not to special as powers go. The other team is another case altogether. Hazard may be a baseline but he's skilled and he has successfully fought metas in the past. High powered rifles, armour piercing ammunition, advanced body armour, explosives, you name it he's got it. Demise is a meta and bad news. Professional killer and pretty damn tough. He has a telepathic attack that makes you think you are dying. Your whole body shuts down. It may require eye to eye contact."
"Abaddon is worse. He's got strength and durability as his secondary powers. What makes him special is his ability to make things around him decay and fall apart. Buildings, plants, people, electronics, energy fields, you name it."
"As to what we do, we find them and shut them down. Hard."

Mark suppressed the urge to laugh. Well, somethings never changed. He looked around the room, there were a lot of guys here that didn't have combat experience, questioning the leader would only cause them to worry more. "Alright, then how long do we have to get this team into shape before we have to make contact with the enemy? And what about that teep that attacked us last night?"

(this will be my only post until after midnight)
Avatar spoke up
"I had the pleasure of attempting to kill Hazard at the ceremony as he attempted to kidnap the senator. He managed to survive me basically turning the atmosphere around him into a death zone. He survived temperatures of 350 degrees celcius and a pressure of 200 ATMS which should have crushed him like a tin can. This happened because his ammunition exploded, and got him out of the pressure zone's radius. Also miraculously, his lungs and blood vessels did not rupture upon decompression. He was very lucky. SO lucky as to be pretty much impossible. This is just speculation mind you, but it is possible that either probability control, or insane durability is his power"

"Avatar's allies are tracking the teep. After this meeting we're rounding it up. It's also a teleport and a telekinetic. Unfortunately, time isn't on our side. Consider the teep a training op. It has randomly attacked with deadly force, so if you need to do so use deadly force. Capturing it alive is preferable."

Mark took a step forward. "If I may. I think I have learned some information on our target that might help." The silver face looked around the crowd, waiting the inevitable questions of how he knew this.

Anderson grabbed the tail and pulled, landing Niner on his ass. Letting go, he stood up and walked around to his... er... its... side and sat down cross-legged. He inquired, "Found anything interesting?"Agent Fisher wrote:Niner had felt the man sneaking up on him. It was very hard to sneak up on a telepath, in particular, one who was also a minor precog. Mark smiled under the suit. "It's name is Niner. It was in a government lab for, I don't know how long, neither does my source, but a long time. It really wasn't happy there and it won't willingly join us, not if we force it. Our best option is to convince it that joining us is for the best. It's a very powerful telepath and I wouldn't doubt that it will sense us coming."

"It launched an unprovoked attack on Legacies from ambush," said Blackheart. "To be clear we may approach it with the soft sell, but at the end of the day its coming with us whether or not its willingly, unwillingly, or in a body bag. If you are confident it could be a usuable asset and is likely to respond favorably to gentle approach, that's what we'll lead with."

"Fun...we won't be able to sneak up on it, and it can teleport and throw things at us. That rules out 95% of this team from being any form of effective"
Saibot glared at Blackheart and Legacies from beneath the helmet.
"Anyone here good at diplomacy?"

Legacies took a seat. "Well, I'd probably set him off if he even gets the idea I'm around. Last time he aimed for me, and he seems to want me dead. If I confront him he's likely to flip out again."
