#1 Just finished Batman: NML and Evolution

Post by Dark Silver »

I know I'm behind on this..but I just finished reading No Mans Land and Evolution (Graphics Novels) which occured I'm guessing early 2000's?

I have to say, it's a good story, but I got lost on one part.....when did the League fight Ra's and Talia got injured?

Was the stuff Ra's was trying to peddle a extra of the chemicals of the Lazarus Pits, or some other alchemical mish mash he made?

NML was rather depressing, seeing as they fucked over Gotham with all the plagues and the earthquakes and all....but at least it got rebuilt.

NML quite literally finished with the turn of the millenium, and 'Evolution' more or less followed that.
IIRC, the stuff they sold in 'Evolution' was a derivative of what made the Lazarus Pits work, though with a shitload of drawbacks.

I never really liked the idea of No Man's Land. The idea of just cutting off a city because of a natural disaster would be political sudicude for one thing, and seriously where the fuck was the Justice League or Justice Society for this? Fuck even the Salvation Army...

indeed, that was my entire train of thought during the NML storyline, where the hell were the other supers who could have SAVED the city?

Don't tell me if Superman hadn't walked up to the President and said, "Don't cut off Gotham", that the President still would have declared it NML

and who the fuck declares NML and leaves people on the island, that's humanitarian suicide.

Frigidmagi, you're applying real world issues AND logic to a comic book problem. You aught to know better.
Just for the record, I agree. It's just that things don't work that way in my part of the woods. Valen, when Clark offered his help during NML I send him away!!!

Yes Detective....that was rather stupid of you.

I mean, you actually thought you could save Gotham by yourself? You even took Huntess's help when you first got there, set her up to fail when Two Face doublecrossed Penguin and then kicked her out.

Stupid idea, I agree. What can I say? Contractual obligations. One of the drawbacks of being a comic book character.

I'm not a huge comic book reader, but I always liked Huntress. She always seems to be trying to fight the good fight and getting no respect.

'Getting no repect' iis putting it mildly. With the kind of treatment she gets from me it's a wonder she hasn't tried to kill me yet.

I thought she had tried at least once?

Still they got a point, Batgirl gets away with more these days and she's an ex-assassin.

Hell if I can remember I just have vague memory of her trying to maim or murder you somewhere...

Well DO take into account that our ilk spends an not inconderable part of our time mind-controlled, hypnotized, possessed, or otherwise not in control of our actions so that may not have been her idea.
And if it's about her shooting me in 'Cry for Blood', even I admitted that was an accident

flipped back through Evolution for a minute...have to admit Detective

what you did for Montoya and Harvey was......very very decent and nice of you.

Never thought you would have done that favor for Dent.

Don't mention it. I'm half surprised DC let me get way with it pre-Murderer/Fugitive.

Harvey called Wayne to send a vase of flowers to Montoya.....tulips.

Bruce did it. When Montoya went to see Dent, she brought cupcakes, Batman was watching her the entire time.

Before she got to her car, he left a note, "You gave him peace. Thank you. Happy Birthday"

I thought it was out of character, especially for the NML Batman

now the one thing I do want to know, since I wasn't keeping up with comics around that time, (and I'm still not really doing so now), what was the incident in which the League took on Ra's? The one where apparently Talia's leg was broken?

The tower of babel.
Ra's stole Batmans plans for neutralizing the entire league after stealing his parents coffin.
The plans worked (including red kryptonite for superman) and until Bat's refused to have his folks ressurected in a lazarus pit (:wtf:  ) the whole league was getting it's ass handed to it.
Ra's was planning to scramble the language centers of all of humanity thus making it nearly impossible for them to communicate.

But the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man for precisely the same reasons

Dubious proposition at best, given the state there bodies must be in by now.
The Pits do have limits. Same thing it was with Jason- just too much damage. What comes out of the Pit may be technically alive, but it's not going to be really human.
