#1 Favourite Magic-Users?

Who's your favourite magic-user in fiction, and why?

Such things as Jedi or Priors don't count.

I don't know how much this counts, but I'm rather fond of Clerics myself. While their folder is limited, they also have access to divine magicks, including healing/harm spells, and they can wear armor, at the cost of being limited to slings and blunt weapons, such as Maces, Flails, and Morningstars. Clerics alone are not enough to win a battle, but they can defend themselves better than a staff-wielding, unarmored Mage, and they make one hell of a supporting party member.

I was actually referring to 'specific persons'

I suppose, if we're to take your latest BG2 Addiction and that statement at face value: Aerie or Viconia.

It is a toss up. Between Dalamar, Raistlin, and Nalifan (Cynical Cat's character in his Faerun fic)

I suppose Zifnab is my favorite. His excentric personality is definately the selling point.

I feel like such a jackass. Oh, well. Yeah, Viconia would be my favorite, with Gandalf the White being a close second. Viconia's sharp wit, good fighting skills, Drowness, and the fact that she called another female ssinssrigg make her pretty much unsurmountable as my favorite.

It's a toss up between:

Jaheira (Druid)
Viconia (Cleric)
and
Anyone with Gnome in the describing race, mostly because uber-insane spellcasters kick arse.

You people are missing the most important, powerful, and scarey of all the mages.

No, I'm not speaking of Black Mage...

I'm speaking, of course, of Porthos Fitzempriss bani Order of Hermes bani House Tytalus, Archmaster of Forces..et cetra et cetra.

Or perhaps, one only slightly less infamous in the World of Darkness, Heylel Toemin Teobath bani Solificati, the Great Betrayer, The Two which are One, The Lover and the Demon......et cetra, et cetra..

The Old Man is good, but Porthos is ust that much more.

Because Porthos is Order of Hermes, much like myself, and thus, is better than the Euthanatos

I dislike white wolf mages... too damn wanked IMO.

At least with D&D they get fun spells... and by that: I mean 'Polymorph Any Object'

Turn any bigoted twat into the object of his own hatred... it's the ultimate form of punishment for these types.

WW mages have a system which is far more varied and complex than any D&D, and also the most flexible magickal system invented.

And we have that Polymorph any object ability also, it's calleds Life 5 Matter 5

Paradox.

D&D has that for about two spells and a single psionic power...

Wish, Miracle and Reality Revision...

The WW Mages have it for each-and-every-single-thing they DO.

And then you say that WW mages are to wanked?

WW Mages have that limiting factor, they do something to far out of Consensual Reality, and they get bitchslapped by the collective unconcious.

D&D mages have no such limitation except for those three powers.

Now, which one is more wanked?

I was stating that you place undue confidence in an overly restricted being. Although the 'wank' in question was referring to the unfortunate WoD Wanking in the Phoenix Wars TGOD, if I must be wholly honest.

Dakarne, this forum does not exist for you to complain about STGODs, that's what the OOC forum is for. Go complain there.

I stated why I didn't like them. Nothing more. This is a thread about magic-users, and I simply provided a reason as to why I didn't like them... I am not trying to use this as a complaint for the STGOD.

An addition, spurred by the recent Vs thread...

Coin the Sourcerer.

May I also add Simon the Sorcerer and Rincewind (technically just a Wizzard) to that list.

the high end mages from death gate. They had some cool means of manipulating reality.
