It was rather boring work, really. Excepting the constant fear that someone -or thing- would shamble towards you with a moan, of course. Mike directed them with his rather fuzzy knowledge of hospitals, using his privelidged position as an excuse to nab a comfy swivel chair and peer through some records.

Something caught his eye.

"Oh, hell." He said.

"Look at this." Mike turned a report to him. It was dated about a week prior to the outbreak, and detailed, in some boring length, the hospital's reasoning for shutting down an entire wing. Due to MRSA, it said.

"What's MRSA?" he said. He produced a pack of chips he'd scavenged from the vending machine in the pediatric ward and handed them over.

"Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus." Mike said obligingly. "Basically, it's resistant to everything, including the kitchen sink. Most common reason for deaths in-hospital nowadays."

"Look here. And here." Mike pointed to portions of the document that, to the untrained eye, were just as unintelligable as the rest.

"It doesn't follow the proper infection pattern. See how it's random for a month or so, only among the patients, then a sudden spike that hits the staff?" He pointed again, to more figures that could've meant anything as far as Petro was concerned.

"That doesn't work for MRSA. However, if you assume that the people coming in were infected with the Zombie bug, and this" he pointed at the spike, "was when it hit the local water supply, then it makes a lot more sense."

"Yeah. But that's not what got to me. Don't you see? They've been covering this up for a month now, at least." He sat back, stunned.

"Until now, I'd pretty much convinced myself that it'd happened all at once, but..." He groaned. "They knew. They fucking knew."

As Ace tripped over a chair and slided on the floor, loosening an arms full of advance medical equiptment. "....Shit."

A few hours earlier

Ace decided to walk out, he was getting sick of being isolated and he needed to save some tools if he was going to survive, so he walked out with only his saw.

The hospital was deserted, with not even a whisper aside from some still functioning quiet alarms, not even a zombie in sight. The surgery department was empty, only hastily ransacked, with non of the advance tools actully taken....

Now...

Ace struggled to his feet, that was going to leave a bruise. "Ace, Dr Ace Pace, former head of trauma center and top surgery doctor in the city. Not that means much nowdays.

"Looting the place." Said Mike with a grin. "It's the in thing nowadays. And I have a feeling trauma surgeons'll be in demand soon. Right, Petro?" He swiveled his chair to face the older man.
