Blast from the past time! This is the original character concept i sent to Cynical Cat a bit over three years ago, when the Vampire game was still play-by-post. It never came to be because the game moved to Skype and i did not have the means to participate at the time. The original idea seed was a thought that popped into my head, "The mothers of Constantinople are always careful to warn their daughters to be wary of the charms of Italian men. Sometimes, in hushed whispers, they also warn them about the women." From that seed i developed the following pitch:
Lys via PM wrote:Girl born and grew up in the streets of Venice, having much the life one would expect from that. Through luck, charm, and some amount of ruthlessness, she was able to become a courtesan to the rich merchants and nobles of the Republic. Eventually she manages to impress a man who turns out to be a Sixth Generation Ventrue, and is embraced by him. She travels to Constantinople with him, and after he sees to some business, is left there to be his eyes, ears, and hand on the pulse of the city. Pretending to be a lady of high birth whose family has fallen on hard times, she runs a brothel, but her real business is acquiring and trading information. She keeps her true origins a secret.
Julian insisted i make the character Genoese, for obvious reasons, but otherwise approved her. Then when i finally made Lucretia two years later, the Ventrue brothel-keeping information broker instead became a power-hungry Toreador merchant. Her Road changed too, as the original character was leaning very heavily toward the Road of Sin, and i was still considering it when i spotted the Path of Tyrants. It was a bit of a happy coincidence, as i acquired the Road of Kings book mainly to look at the merits. So i guess i was always going to play against type, as the original idea was a lascivious Ventrue, and the one i went with is a tyrannical Toreador. Also Ventrue Lucretia was a lesbian or at least bisexual, since her feeding restriction was young women, but she would make a point to occasionally drink from the brothel's costumers as misdirection. Meanwhile Toreador Lucretia is straight, and is in fact the first straight character i've played since... um... a while.
