Also, back on topic, the Constellation has been fleshed out with art and the like.

Yikes. If you think the FSO fighter redesigns are actually an improvement, I'm not the one needing to aquire some taste.
Also, awesome joystick recommendation, Hotfoot. Much obliged. The light at the base of the actual stick is annoying as hell and I suspect I'll never really use the left side buttons, but other than that I love it, and I've had it for all of 16 hours or so.

Back to the back on topic post, 75 ton seems rather lowball for something that size, even if it's the dry weight.

They are currently sitting on more money than Project Eternity, and have promised a playable carrier if they hit 5.5 million.

Who in their right mind wants to play a carrier? What's fun about carriers is their fighter complement. Who actually wants to command the Concordia herself?

It means you can control a mobile base of operations for all of your friends and not have to be wholly reliant on stationary bases and such.

That's bold. Branching storylines are complex enough as it is. What if I decide the war is a lost cause and run for the WC equivalent of the Periphery?

STO is multiplayer as well and far as I can tell the storyline is about as single-threaded as it gets. I get to ignore it to my heart's content, mind you, and play random missions to the heat death of the universe. Not going to advance in the story much I suspect.

To your utter and complete lack of surprise, I never played whatever game Eve is from.

Rumor has it Google is a great research aide, Detective.

I've never played EVE Online either, but curiosity, Google, and about ten minutes fulfilled my curiosity.

EVE Online isn't from a game, it is a game, as the title might suggest. A space MMO that came out years before STO, and has been the subject of international news. It's a fascinating game, one responsible for some great stories in the realm of gaming. Most of the content is fueled by player alliances fighting in the outskirts of space for valuable resources.

I warn you now though, this is NOT a game for you, Batman. If you attempt it, you will find only tears.

But this is more or less what happens every weekend in 0.0 Space.

Yeah. Definitely different Eve. My bad. And if you think this not my kind of game why did you tell me about it to begin with?

Eve is one of those games I never want to play, but I'm kind of glad that other people want to play. That way I can sit back and hear about the latest insanities to come out of it every month or so.
Gaze upon my works, ye mighty, and despair...

^ Yeah, same. I would never play it, but I kinda like to observe it or read stories about some of the weird shit that happens in it.

EDIT DayZ is in the same boat as EVE for me.

This puppy has raised over five million clams. That's more than Project Eternity, which broke all kinds of records last month.

It's pretty fucking hilarious that they can't go to conventional production companies because 'lol nobody wants to play those old classic style games :v'

Yeah, horseshit.

Here's a thought for a stretch goal: get Mark Hamil in to provide va talent for Commander Kristopher Blare, as he leads the heroic forces against the devious and cat-like kzinthi :V

Okay folks, I'm dredging this thing up because we are coming closer (though still quite distant from) actual release, but I figure it wouldn't hurt to have a discussion on a very important matter.

That being the name of the organization we fly under.

Now, this is quite serious business as you might understand, and despite me enjoying the occasional funny name like the Black Pigs or something, this requires deliberation and consideration. Now, as long as the name is good, I think we can work with it, but my suggestions are of course going to be biased for obvious reasons.

That said, we have five different types of organizational Archetypes. The Archetypes only matter insofar as rank names are concerned and general roleplay feel. They are:

Organization: Keep with the default nondescript type!

ROLES:
Founder
Officer
Recruitment
Branding

RANKS:
Master
Expert
Veteran
Experienced
Regular
Recruit

Corporation: A for-profit business entity.

ROLES:
CEO
Executive
Human Resources
Marketing

RANKS:
Board Member
Director
Manager
Senior
Middle
Junior

PMC: Private Military Company, for organizations with a taste for combat.

ROLES:
General
Officer
Recruiter
Marketing

RANKS:
Colonel
Major
Warrant Officer
Sergeant
Private
Recruit

Faith: Coming together for a single cause or under a single banner.

ROLES:
Prophet
Elder
Missionary
Evangelist

RANKS:
Chamberlain
Exarch
Overseer
Adept
Disciple
Initiate

Syndicate: Operating on the edges (or outside) of the law.

ROLES:
Boss
Lieutenant
Recruiter
Communications

RANKS:
Chief
Captain
Enforcer
Patched
Soldier
Thug

Each of these organization types can list two types of the following activities as their primary types of things they intend to do. This is mostly for recruitment, but also is useful for RP purposes. These include:

Bounty Hunting
Engineering
Exploration
Freelancing
Infiltration
Piracy
Resources
Scouting
Security
Smuggling
Social
Trading
Transport

So my first two suggestions are as follows, note that the activities are subject to change and don't actually restrict our possibilities:

Ravenlock Consortium (Company)
Primary Interest: Trading
Secondary Interest: Freelancing

Karakan Dynasty (Syndicate)
Primary Interest: Exploration
Secondary Interest: Trading

Any other suggestions?

The Sin-vold Unification (Faith)
Primay - Infiltration
Seondary - Piracy

Im serioous about the Faith and Piracy thing - that strikes me as something that could be interestin to RP out....
Allen Thibodaux | Archmagus | Supervillain | Transfan | Trekker | Warsie |
"Then again, Detective....how often have you dreamed of hearing your father's voice once more? Of feeling your mother's touch?" - Ra's Al Ghul
"According to the Bible, IHVH created the Universe in six days....he obviously didn't know what he was doing." - Darek Steele bani Order of Hermes.

Alright, bunch of new stuff released today. First, a demo for the open-world alpha launch.

Second, a look at the larger view of the world and navigation therein.

EDIT: This is live now: Starmap

Story piece for the intro into the Squadron 42 campaign, which is going to be the Wing Commander-type single player experience. For context, the Vanduul are the main hostile force out there, and a few days before that video takes place they just did something very unpleasant to a human system, Vega. Also included: a laundry-list of voice and motion/face-capture talent, starting with Gary Oldman and going from there.

And lastly, since I'm a self-serving horrible person, they also kicked off a referral program, should anyone end up interested. For those who are already involved, too late.

Referral code: STAR-5NDG-LSRS
