I just figured out who Jake Armitage is, and why that morgue-sleeping nutbar is so FAMILIAR!

He's the protagonist from the SNES game!

Yeah because you know we certainly need to keep a corrupt self serving cop around for the good of the town.

Town will be there without him and frankly while the other cop we meet was a corrupt one to, at least he was vaguely interested in doing things besides sucking up to his bosses. No dude I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to completely disagree with you, getting that asshole fired did not hurt the community. If anything it improved it.

Sometimes you have to destroy the town to save the town anyway.

Okay, I give up-how do I beat the 'retrieve Aegis' mission without my team getting shot to pieces pretty much early on (preferably without having to fill every available inventory slot with medpacks?) and how many side missions should I have had at that point? I noticed exactly one Johnson showing up before that. Plenty of potential objectives but if anybody actually offered me a seperate run before, I apparently missed it.

Fun enough game so far, though the seed save thing gets seriously on my nerves (especially for longer missions, like the Aegis one) and your inventory is way too small and the inventory handling takes some getting used to.

Also, no collecting dropped equipment. I should be filthily rich on guns taken off my dead enemies alone.

I never really had a problem with 'Retrieve Aegis' other than getting my main killed because White ICE on the field with Black ICE kills you, apparently.

It's all about usage of your AP- scout ahead, don't be afraid to fall back, and hug the cover as much as you can. Combine your magic and your firepower and fuck their shit up.

Also, what may be hanging you up is the turrets. Get into the room to the right, position somebody with a shotgun to cover the door, get into the room with the network access and get somebody on that door, and then have somebody else who can float from room to room to help out if either of your peeps get in trouble while you have Dodger go in and hack the turrets. Once the turrets are on your side it's pretty easy.

Also, overwatch is your friend.

I got the turrets licked second go, the problem is it doesn't seem to help me much especially as I usually have several Wounded characters (not just hurt, Wounded) before I ever get to that damned terminal, and while he's hacking that terminal he's totally exposed, plus hacking the turrets seems moderately pointless as by the time the Dodger manages that, the reinforcements are dead anyway. Don't get me wrong, NOT being shot to pieces while I board the elevator is nice, but I was rather looking forward to the turrets keeping the company goons off my case, which apparently doesn't happen.

When it comes for making it to the network port you have to move quick. You clear the room prior, usually with a mix of magic, grenades, and maybe a spirit to bullet sponge, then you mad dash to the next rooms, secure them (there's usually like one guy in there that you have to kill) and then you put Dodger straight to the decking.

I usually catch at least one or two guys out with the turrets, and overwatching the doors cleans out anybody who tries to interfere.

Can't says I've had overly much trouble with that one. Maybe you've just had some shit rolls going in that got your people more dinged up than mine.

I've had the same result (several Wounded characters by the time Dodger gets to the terminal) several times so I doubt it's simple bad luck.
Never used mages-or riggers, or deckers-when I had the choice, so maybe that's part of my problem. Heck the only reason I took Dodger for that one was I needed a decker and he was the cheapest one available. Otherwise, I went all gunslingers. Shooting people is something I understand and the 4 person party limit doesn't give me much room for flexibility (though that seems to be the norm these days-whatever happened to the 6 person party, or Valen forbid 6 plus 2 NPCs ?)

That's your problem, Batsy. Mix up the magic, get a rigger who has a nice drone to soak the shots and bring the rain.

Oh yeah, this game really pays off on combined arms. Get a fireball chucker who can blind your foes, or a shaman. If you snag a shaman, remember that any time you see a skull icon pop up that's a spirit you can summon, and some of 'em are pretty potent.

The beauty of riggers and shamans is that they give you extra bullet sponges. By the time you're running Telestrian, the shaman can kick out at least two or three spirits and they're entirely expendable.

(Well, everybody but your decker and your prime are expendable on every mission anyway, but you want them to at least last long enough to get the job mostly done.)

If you go shooter-heavy, be sure to lob some grenades in. This game doesn't pay off on just getting into straight shootouts.

Also it's Shadowrun, you get to throw fireballs and fire cannons all in the same game. It's sad not to.

Well I wasn't all that happy with my original character anyway so I started afresh (just finished the funeral mission) so let's see if a change in party layout really makes that much of a difference. Though up to and until the Telestrian Industries missions, all gunslingers seemed to work just dandy.

As do medkits, and prior to Telestrian Industries the game was a breeze (as should be when you're playing on 'easy').

1. Inventory space is limited, magic is not
2. Dodge Dodge Dodge Dodge Dodge Dodge
3. Armor
4. Cybernetics
5. The attack power of the dead is 0
6. When in doubt, grenade it out
7. Cover is your bestest friend, hug it like you want to break a rib
8. Haste means more dakka

I can see it now. A bunch of professional shadowrunners break into an office building in a meticulously timed and planned operation, but stick around to loot the guns of their enemies that TOTALLY won't have GPS tracking tied into their smartlinks. By the end of it, you're lugging half a dozen guns, with ammo, that amounts to at least 25 kg of unbalanced gear. Given the numbers you face, that's a per-person estimate.

Whoa. You people weren't kidding about the spellslingers making a difference. Just finished 'Below the Brotherhood' (or whatever the mission where you rescue the elf girl and first run into the unkillable bug creatures is called), and I came out of that mostly unscathed despite hanging around for elf girl to (pointlessly, as it turned out) try out the other two Matrix access points.

So I beat the game today, I didn't punch the bastard, I just showed him who was ultimately the better Troll.

Gunbunny heavy squad, one mage, got wiped the first time, second time made it out with only one death, so in all, not bad given that I only had one Trauma Team card on hand at the time and was generally understocked for medkits. Not sure what I'll try for my next run, but this was fun.

Memo to self: armour apparently doesn't go beyond 10, so no point in taking both the high grade street armour and dermal plating.

Back to the Telestrian mission and you lot were right, overwatch and having a mage to heal the team made a lot of difference. Now I only have to find a way for the Dodger to survive the ICE around the elevator controls. And didn't that Baron Samedi fellow say he'd help out?

And you gotta be kidding me. Decking 6 to get the paydata in the extraction mission? Freaking Dodger only has Decking 5.
