I know there was a case where an astronaut got accidentally decompressed during groundside experimentation. He said that he remembered the saliva boiling out of his mouth, then CONK.
Correction, the article mentions it with a defunct link, but it was a technician and not an astronaut.

Yes, you see this. But you don't see them dragging fleet tenders with them, for the simple reason that fleet tenders aren't canonical at all.

So Havoc, to clarify:
We can use multiple ships to drag it through warp, provided those conditions are met? Also: would a mass-lightening field be required, or simply nice to have?
I can work with that, and it is easier than getting the power-sucking warp drive back online.

A mass lightening field is definitely required to project anything into warp, but fortunately, that's what a Warp Field is. Outside the badlands, a large enough ship (not yours) can extend its warp field over the tender, and tow it that way. But without a structural integrity field, it will rip itself to pieces as soon as you try to accelerate at all. And inside the badlands, you need multiple ships just to compensate for the subspace interference.

My ship is designed to punch people's ships in the mouth, not so much for Federation science shenanigans.
Given the preliminary plan so far (which will have to be discussed IC, of course) is that the Gilgamesh will escort the ships towing the fleet tender. If we can spare it, having a ship with good sensors out in front would also help.

Not the best, best sensor rig. But cloaking means you can get a bit closer.
(Assuming the cloak isn't leaking today.)

Hey Havoc. At this point, I think we need the Executive Summary of what our engineering !Science! teams are telling us about what ship systems are completely fucked, what can be repaired in the field, what we can jury rig etc, and how long it would take us to do the repairs we are talking about.

In my case, for the Gilgamesh, the running idea I had with my ship is that it was designed by Nog as his Starfleet graduation Engineering project, as a salute to the man who got him properly into Starfleet - Sisko. Nog redesigned the Defiant, and called it the Valiant - and being Ferengi, he had a misunderstanding about who Gilgamesh was in human mythos. From him, it was an ambitious name for an ambitious project, and he didn't learn the rest of who Gilgamesh was until after all was said and done. By then... well, the name stuck.Josh wrote:Gilgamesh, Sargon, Captain Shirazi... I'm detecting a Fertile Crescent theme here.

Reports are still trickling in for the moment (it's a big ship), but for now, you guys have a pretty good idea that the ship's weapon systems and engines are completely wrecked. The torpedo launchers are jammed, the point defenses are offline, the targeting sensors fried, that crazed disabling cannon that they fired into the S'harien has been badly damaged if not outright destroyed. The engine systems, particularly the warp systems, are also unsalvageable, at least under current timeframes. One of the warp nacelles (there are four) has been completely destroyed, another badly damaged, the warp core is shut down pending investigation of a major coolant leak, and the entire warp drive is off limits thanks to that entire deck being bereft of life support and flooded with liquid sodium.Comrade Tortoise wrote:Hey Havoc. At this point, I think we need the Executive Summary of what our engineering !Science! teams are telling us about what ship systems are completely fucked, what can be repaired in the field, what we can jury rig etc, and how long it would take us to do the repairs we are talking about.
Of the five fusion reactors that serve as this ship's major power generators, one seems to be missing entirely (the entire section of that deck was vaporized by a disruptor shot), three more are completely offline and are not likely to be restored to working condition inside of two weeks. The last one is currently working at minimal capacity, but has been stabilized to the point where it's unlikely to break down (baring further damage). The engineers believe that it should be possible to restore it to 60-70% of operating capacity.
The ship was designed with a certain level of redundancy in terms of power systems, such that the five power cores are not required to fly it (think of engines on a bomber), but one half-working reactor is simply not enough. Life support systems are currently working reasonably well over about 40% of the ship, the rest have been swept and sealed off. Fortunately, the main deflector array was undamaged by the beating it took (the array was on the other side of the ship), but unfortunately, the current reactor is not potent enough to run the deflector array and life support and the inertial dampeners and the structural integrity field all at the same time. The ship must get additional power from some source in order to do this.
Speaking of the SIF, it is presently offline, something not normally that important when not moving, but highly so if you plan to tow it at warp. Several SIF generators are either completely destroyed or irreparably damaged, and will need to be replaced. Others can be fixed, but to fix them and rig the new ones up will take an absolute minimum of 30 hours, even with round-the-clock shifts. Without a working SIF, the ship cannot go to warp, not even under tow, without shattering under the strain.
Good luck!

I have no idea how many emergency generators the Spector would have. I dont' even know if there would be such things inside my Peregrines, but if there are, we have a few wrecked ones that might be recyclable. Havoc, Please let me know what I can give up to the cause.

Spector, like all ships, would have a couple of emergency generators on-hand. Peregrines would not, but smashed or damaged ones might still have intact power cores that could be used for such purposes.
The real issue isn't finding emergency generators, but integrating the generators of three+ different races together into a system that can provide steady power for the SIF and deflector as you tow the ship out. This will require a lot of engineers and a fair amount of time.

Vulcan and Rihannsu are NOT mutually intelligible. The Rihannsu invented their own language as part of the deliberate break with Vulcan and managed to make it stick, because like Klingon and Quenya it was a language you could tell myths and stories in.

It's pretty irrelevant anyway, since this is Star Trek and everyone and their mothers have universal translators built into their combadges.

They aren't. Romulans don't do anything half way. That's why finding the dice thingies with the Vulcan alphabet was a big deal in "Unification". It meant a family was secretly retaining the Vulcan language.Comrade Tortoise wrote:Ah, I was under the impression that they were.Cynical Cat wrote:Vulcan and Rihannsu are NOT mutually intelligible. They literally traced the Vulcan language back to its roots, and then re-wrote it forward, exchanging all the hard accents for silibants. If you hear of them calling someone "All Fire", it's because Elements guide their lives, and some are naturally born drawn to a certain one. That came from a joking thread on the inter-ship BBS boards, which over generations became a true belief.Cynical Cat wrote:They aren't. Romulans don't do anything half way. Diane Duane did a great job fleshing them out, honestly.
Oh, and Terrans (pre-Federation war with the Romulans) were given the name "Them, from There".
Which made the Klingons, once met, "More of them, From Somewhere Else".

Point of information Frigid. The plan to power the tender and tow it into warp is, in point of fact, mostly mine and Ereshal's. Tlorn does not have an ego to display, but I do.
