As if on queue, Cassie/Mary begins to hack in a phlemy disgusting manner. Truth be known, it was incredibly coincidental, but the timing, regardless was perfect.

Marcus heads out towards the Edwardian monstrosity that is the main waterworks. Five stories above ground with a green copper roof and miles of tunnels underground with plenty of sewer connections. It becomes painfully obvious once you think about it. It is, however, locked at this time of night.

Holden willfully sears that memory into the driver's brain on the ride 'home.' This was getting too close for comfort. He was silent during the ride, and tossed a few bills at the driver as they exited. He maintained Cassie's hold on the handkerchief as he led her along the side to the service entrance. The rest of the cash the man had one kept onhand was used to grease the wheels to let the two in, again supernaturally backed up. No time for games or messing around; time was of the essence. They slinked around the corridors, almost bumping into housekeeping on the way, but finally making it to the room where Holden had barricaded himself in.

"Whew."

Marcus gets out of the car and makes his way towards the doors. Might as well try the direct approach. When he got to the doors Marcus looked around for a knocker or a door bell.

The wooden doors are closed to Marcus. There is no knocker or doorbell.

What made a leader of men into what stands in front of me?

Fucking Samson anyway...

He'd done his job, and that's what had put him on this road. Nineteen dead men in Lattimer Pennsylvania could testify to that, if the dead could speak on anything.

He needed to get cleaned up. He made his way back to Marcus' lair to bum a shower and some clothes.

Cassie had remained quiet and observant this whole time, somewhere in the background while Mary gives the strength of mind to allow seepage of this new reality.

Both of them remain quiet during the cab and then being shuffled into a hotel room, limping the way into the room. The kerchief drops, and Cassie is confronted by a mirror. Mary takes it in stride, considering it Cassies' god's sick and twisted sense of humor.

But Cassie just ...stares...at her reflection. Her blue eyes have widened as she sees the monster she is becoming. Then, all of the sudden, Cassie picks up the umbrella stand at the door, and throws it into the mirror, breaking it with a scream of revulsion. CRASH!!!! The mirror shatters and a million little Cassies go skipping about the floor. Cassie begins grabbing things randomly and throwing them about the room, pulling down curtains, tearing up the place like a wild animal.

Mary sits back within their cage and smirks. Goddamn Cassie. Quite a bit of a hellcat when you don't get your way. Shame you didnt get fucked good and proper, the boys would have loved you.

Holden's lips purse as she slides into denial. It's alright, he rationalizes, he did the same thing, but damn.. here and now, that could be trouble. He would say something, but instead he runs his hand over his mouth and down his chin, constructing a tapestry for the mortals who would bother them.

Finally, with situations in mind, he speaks, softly. "Cassie."

By the time he speaks, the room is already trashed. The bedcovers in hand from the bed she has flipped over and torn up and slips sobbing to the floor, covering her head with the covers. Her sobs sound beautiful, melodious. It is almost as sick and twisted that her voice was left beautiful. She sobs into the blankets, out of sight from the monstrosity which she had seen.

CRASH! The mirror was not the only thing that shattered.

"Cassie.. we're all marked by the blood, in one manner or another. Lasombra are said to not cast reflections. Brujah like Wright fall victim to their anger. However these ..disfigurements of the body and mind are also a seat of power. A reflection can spoil an ambush. Anger leads to harder strikes." He makes sure the door is locked and moves to Cassie slowly, and kneels down before her.

Holden sighs. "Chicken fuck." He looked to Cassie. Not having any experience with this at all, he would imagine that he is failing big time. Yet he will trudge on until the bloody end.

"Miss, the only thing that's changed is the outside. A body's a body; do you know how many folks toss theirs aside, filling it with smoke an' liquor? Yours can withstand the wrath of time, the force of bullets. You can see the world as it is. ...You still have a purty voice."

Cassie lowers the blanket from her face, her nose now completely disintegrated, leaving a gaping hole. Her skin is dry and yellowed with age that she does not have, her hair has all but fallen out. Her eyes search Holden's and she asks, "Do you think Im pretty?" Twitch, Mary internally wishes she could boot Cassie to the head.

All the while, a third party gathers information, observing.

Holden flashes many different thoughts in his head. He allows a hint of a smile to slip across his face. "I didn't need ta see ya to know you were pretty, miss."

Cassie smiles, her lips already beginning to twist and contort into different shaping.

"What's your name? I am afraid with all the excitement, I never got it."

Cassie, do you really think he gives two shakes about you? Oh sure, when you could shake your ass with your short skirt, he did. You were a piece of meat to him. What are you to him now? Why the fuck is he talking to you and helping you and me? What is his angle?" Mary chides

The third party speaks in a non passionate, monotone voice, "What group are you in?"

"Holden, miss, childe of Martin Duval." He offers a more sincere smile. If only he knew the monologues going around in her head.
"What group are you in?"
At this he pauses, only briefly. "I claim lineage of clan Ventrue."

The third party nods slowly. "Clan Ventrue." Cycling through recollections of what this creature told Cassie and Mary, she repeats, "The group who consider themselves the leaders of the kindred soceity. Businessmen, entrepenuers, and politicians. Which one are you?" The creature tilts her head curiously.

An eyebrow quirks. "An independent party until I can settle in more comfortably." He sits back against the bed. "After that, I make the calls I can."

His brow furrowed curiously. She is much more astute than she plays herself out to be... it may be easier than he thought to set her straight.

"Independant party. That is odd, considering what blood flows through your veins, based on what you have said about it. What are your true motives here in Chicago?" The voice speaks very levelly, unconcerned with the answer, but curious as to what it might be.

Mary is pacing back and forth in the cage, back and forth, back and forth. Like an animal. There is a new person in this cage. A new creature in this territory. She doesn't like it. Not one bit.

Cassie is brushing her hair in front of a mirror, seeing how beautiful she is, and practicing her next number for Wright's show.

"Let's just say I moved on from a previous engagement and am looking to set up shop here in a crossroads of 'civilization.'" He bowed his head slightly as he investigated her now, the blood doing what it does best, shaping his personality and tailoring his responses.

Investigating her now is like looking at a stranger. A strange alien face and a strange alien personality. "Civilization of blood?" A clawed hand raises waiving on the statement as though it is unimportant. "You mentioned rules earlier. Now is the time to learn of them."

"Indeed." He moved to sit on the bed, a leg crossed. "Vampire law is set by the Traditions, made long ago. In essence, it could be said, 'don't make nobody mad.' Which is a crock." He smirked. Some of these have been shattered tonight, unless there is somethin' more to the situation..

"There's the Tradition of Masquerade; Kinda like the First Amendment. People will wave that damn thing in your face like a heart on the sleeve. However it's important to our survival... Don't show the nature to Mortals.

Then there's Domain. When you're in someone else's house, they call the shots. Vice versa when ya have company.

There's Hospitality, where you lay yourself down before the Prince an' he gives you the brass key to the city. Or sends you packin'.

There are others concerning siring other Kindred. Both have apparently been broken when the one who made you slinked off, the bastard."

Mary laughs outloud. "Your rules be damned. They don't apply to me. LOOK AT ME. Unless my head is getting axed I can't follow them, and I like my head where it is"

The cool tone returns, and she ponders this. "What is a Prince?"

"Kindred unlife is kinda like a business. There's the pretty head, and then there's the one who does all the work. Prince is the pretty head, but he clawed his way to the top of the pile 'n that's that. The rest is a bunch of medieval references." Holden shrugs. "It's your option to follow the rules or not, but iffen you want to make friends, then you'll be a good li'l girl." That southern drawl was slipping back into his speech. "'Sides, I like ya. I'm sharin' all this for no cost, unlike that bastard Wright, screwin' me for 20 G's. Now I have to track 'im down." He shrugs again and rubs his face.
